- #hamstrings #hamstringexercise Here are 3 of my favorite hamstring curl exercises that you can do at home with bands!
The hamstrings are often an undertrained and neglected muscle group, but they are so important when it comes to building balanced functional strength. Whether you are looking to improve your big lifts like squats and deadlifts, training for athletic performance, or just looking to move better and be able to perform day to day functional tasks like lifting things off the floor, the hamstrings are a crucial muscle group.
The general rule of thumb is that your hamstrings should be equally as strong as your quads (or thighs) to ensure proper muscle balance and minimize the risk of injuries, but that is typically not the case for most people. Hamstrings tend to be a lot weaker than the quads, because most people do not train them!
Let's fix that by adding in some hamstring curl exercises to your routine!
The hamstrings are responsible for two main movements. Knee flexion, which is bending your knee from a straight leg position to the fully bent position, and hip extension, which is thrusting your hips forward.
There are three main muscle groups in the hamstrings, and it's only possible to train all 3 of them by doing an exercise with knee flexion or knee flexion & hip extension together. Hip extension alone will only train 2 of the muscle groups effectively, and not all 3.
This video discusses 3 different leg curl variations which are knee flexion exercises.
Exercise 1 - Seated Banded Hamstring Curls
Exercise 2 - Banded Lying Hamstring Curl
Exercise 3 - Suspended Hamstring Curls

You are an excellent communicator
Clench Fitness I just received your footplate today and I have to say, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A GAME CHANGER. Please anyone reading this, if you are serious about resistance band workouts please spend the money and get this footplate. It makes sooooo many EXERCISES that much better. Squats, curls, one-arm rows, deadlifts and the list goes on. Totally worth the price. Thank you Clench Fitness for the incredible innovation in band workout equipment. Obviously have some smart and talented people working at your company.
Thanks Marlon, we really appreciate that!
Very good video! Can't wait for your ankle straps! KEEP ON ROCKING!
Thanks CJ!
I have a bad lower back. 100 percent, I'm going to try this. I'm going to start with light bands. Thank you.
Awesome! Yes, start light and see how it feels!
YES. I NEEDED THIS BADLY!! Thank you!
Glad you found it! Thanks for watching!
Perfect Video that I wanted ❤
Thanks for watching!
awesome, thank you. I feel faster already.
Excellent video. The last one was fun.
I have done lying leg curls - but without a bench. I have a low anchor point as well, but I do not use ankle straps with carribeaners. I instead self-loop the open end of the band around both ankles and perform the leg curl that way (while lying on a mat). I like doing it this way as I can do a drop set by inching my body closer to the anchor point to reduce the peak tension on the band.
I do like the banded suspended leg curl (I haven't thought of that one YET - but I may have to give it a try! I may have to get some dedicated bands for this...)
Where do you get that low anchor point
@@GoodByeSkyHarborLive I use a door in my garage that leads into the house. I use the clench fitness resistance band anchor to attach the band(s) to and I lie on the floor on top of a yoga mat
Great video
Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much.
Fajny sposób na ćwiczenie w domu.
Really clear solutions for home 🤘🏻 thnx 💪🏻🙌🏻
Thank you! 👊
Interesting exercises, thank
Brandon: This one's going to be a bit of a dosie!!!!
😆
I do these just lying on the floor with ankle straps. Cool about the ankle straps, but I would suggest bigger carabiners to accommodate larger bands. One of these days can you demonstrate how to do a leg press using the Clench footplate if possible?
Thanks Joseph, I do the floor version as well. Appreciate the suggestion on the carabiners. Also, we've been trying to setup a good leg press with the Footplate for awhile but haven't been able to come up with anything new yet. Will keep you posted.
Alright I subscribed, you're showing me how to use all these bands I have.
Thank you!
Love it.
Thank you!
Great video the ankle straps is great but need larger carabiners 👌👌👌
Thanks Gamal! Agree on the carabiners!
I dont have an anchor point, another option?
Interested if your ankle straps are comfortable :-)
Yes! Comfort and versatility will be our key design features on these!
Where can I get ankle straps? I have all manner of bands! And just an O-ring on the wall?
The last of exercise is a sort of like a practice in strength-building/isometrics training practice, being suspended and all, right? Pretty cool. I've been wanting to get a super strong 3 1/4"-4" (Orange; Grey....) band to use for suspended calisthenics training on Pull day. Have you tried or incorporated that (also) type of training into your regimen, yet?? Thanks, Brandon!
I have never really done calisthenics. Only manipulating rep tempo to control time under tension.
Can the lying ham curls be done on the floor and what height does the chair have to be?
I'm interested as well.
Yes! Thank you!
Yes, ankle straps please.
Yes 👍 thanks!
Best hamstring exercise is nordic hamstring curls
Nordic curls are definitely a good one, but super tough for a lot of people!
Where do I get that plate for the wall and those band hooks?
Which hamstring muscle affects the inner knee the most?
I’m interested in the ankle straps
Thanks!
i can not get my Clench ankle straps to secure like yours in the video
Why not? Email us some photos and we'll help you out!
I’m interested in ankle straps
Thanks Patrick!

Another way to do a lying leg curl is to ask my ex-wife to do a leg curl. 🤣
With that much effort setting stuff up you may as well go to the commercial gym and use their gear. This video is an excellent impetus not to bother with resistance bands.
It's really not that difficult.
I don't believe you actually do this regularly. Only to sell. Easier to use gym equipment.
Your life must be rough if you think any of this is excessively challenging.
@@pats.564 Not what I thought or wrote. He has a good gym. I am sure he uses his other gear for better workout. This video is to sell bands. Similarly for James Grage who claims he worked out only with bands for 2 years. I doubt it. James home gym is as good as many commercial gyms. He sells bands too. For an excellent video on bands used without anchors have a look at fit gent 63 anchor free band exercises.
Wow !!!! Stop de roids dude you're killing yourself 😝
You talk far too much
