But just know, we blk americans always get those that refuse to see how horribly our ancestors were treated and how it effects us today in the US saying we are always playing victim everytime we bring up what happened to our people in the past and how the effects of it is the reason for why we are still looked at and treated as less than even today. They want us to forget all about the history that is apart of us as people, while inly remembering the history of things like the holocaust and things like what happened on 9/11.

Fascinatingly haunting! My mother could never understand why I got a 'D' in (Anglo-Saxon) history. I told her that it was boring and showed nothing about what we (black people) did. And we got third hand raggedy history books at that. Cast offs from the white schools! (I was born in 1960). My mother just nodded and told me nothing is more important than education. It was pretty much the same for her; except during her time the only history they learned was singing about 'Old Black Joe'. She told me that the white kids were mysteriously taken out of the class room during that time and were taught to read and write, while the black kids had to sit in the class room alone or with some other teacher and sing that degrading song. The thing is that nothing much has really changed in 2024!

Oh my, that brings it so much closer to when I was born than I could have ever conceived of. That is so incredibly sad. And the wisdom in politics is there can't possibly racism today after slavery was not really that long ago. It was just several generations ago! I just can't conceive of it! 😢

Strange how the slave owners decided that black slaves or people with dark skin were not human or not to be seem like human beings. Happens with other countries having a mixed race, same goes for indigenous in different countries, or the poor peasants the less fortunate which are treated or deemed as slaves. The history of Mexico's aristocrats in the civil war of 1910 where peasants fought for what was taken from them, these people were living under prejudices, and horrible conditions. This is why as an FBA/ADOS/BA woman myself, i refuse to use and refuse to say the nword no matter which way you use or say it. Either way it’s said or used is degrading and dehumanizing to our people. Our enslaved ancestors were called that despicable and deplorable word while going through and living the worst things in history along with being looked at like they weren’t even human or living and breathing human beings with thoughts, feelings and emotions. Every time i hear my own being called that word and my own saying that word, it’s like a strike of the whip on our ancestors backs. I really wish my people would stop using that word and stop saying any other degrading words when we consider ourselves greeting each other or using terms of endearment for one another. And those of you that want to use that “reclaiming that word” excuse need to save it. We didn’t create that word, therefore we aren’t reclaiming it and can’t reclaim it. It’s impossible to reclaim something you never created to begin with. And to justify using that word by saying, “well our ancestors called each other that and used that word too.” Is lgnorant af. Because they were enslaved, brainwashed and conditioned to believe that it’s ok to degrade and dehumanize themselves enough to think it’s normal to call themselves that degrading word and also say it too. Us living today have no excuse as to why calling ourselves a degrading word colonizers made up for us is endearing, cool and empowering.

I am 56 and I was raised by my great grandmother who was born in 1896 and she told me her mother was a slave but she was born free and she died in 1986 and she taught me and my brother and sisters and cousins a lot of what it was like when she was a child they ole us reparation
I was born 70s. My parents 40 and my grandparents 1800s. My great great grandmother and grandmother and her sisters was owned a white man. I'm first generation of my family born with rights.
I went to school in North Carolina in the 1970s & 80s and my teachers taught us about slavery in the U.S. using written accounts from former slaves. We were also shown photos & listened to audio recordings of former slaves speaking about their lives & times. I don’t understand why those materials aren’t used in schools anymore, but it’s depriving all American students of a proper education.

Why do we as descendants of oppressed and brutalized people keep using the same "feeling good" narrative as those of the descendants of those who committed crimes against humanty? They use "slave and master" as if it was a generally accepted thing and we are confirming this while we know that our ancestors were abused and brutalized, not treated as human beings, ripped of their freedom. To me this is criminal behaviour and they should be called criminals!!! Also I think that we shoudn't use the term "they owned them". They treated PEOPLE as merchadise what also was a criminal act!! If our indigenous books before the 1800’s were either destroyed by fire as we know the Smithsonian Institution had a fire in 1886, and many of our ancient artifacts were destroyed by the first fire, so how can we trust a film of the 1930’s telling us that we were slaves if that’s what this particular video is trying to say?

That is pseudo history, white people were never slaves, they were indentured servants. There is a difference between indentured servants and chattel slavery. Indentured servants were here on their own free will and worked to pay off debts usually paid off debts over 7 years and were free.
