- What if F1 cars had a 4-rotor engine ...
It would sound something like this.
I've used the audio from my Mazda 767B video's and video from my Ferrari Corse clienti archive.
This sounds a lot better than the V6 Turbo nowadays.
Filmed at Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring.

If F1 cars sounded like the 787b then I would actually watch F1.

Ikr?! Why dont they do it? Its lighter than a V6, sure rotaries arent quite the most durable engines, but then again meither are f1 engines, most parts are changed every race weekend! And this would be amaaazing
@@olahrobert5529 i honestly love the rotary engine but tight fuel regulations (rotaries love fuel) and also emissions restrictions (this things are not the cleanest, still love em) are probably the reason why F1 would never adopt the rotary engine, but with r & d of F1 they could make it work. Other than that there have been new and different types of rotaries being made that are apparently more efficient, so F1 may just be waiting for the best possible rotary yet. Mazda's rx- vission engine designs have been leaked this year and if they somehow manage to make that beautiful thing street legal, than they must be doing something crazy to get it to work (it's going to be a rotary hybrid) and in the end that just contributes to the whole thing being possible. So who's to say no, maybe not now but in another 5/6 years maybe just maybe we'll get one. :)
@@1.7mviews84 Rotaries actually get better comparable fuel economy when in racing spec tune. If you watched the 80's and early 90's SCAA IMSA races where RX-7's dominated they pit in far less than other cars even for fuel. It's the smog regs that choke out the rotary on the street that make them less efficient for road legal use.
F1 should have let rotaries compete. If not that then for goodness sakes let other types of piston engines compete again. It's so boring watching a race where all cars have the same engine type. I liked the good ol days of F1 where TT V6, NA v12, and T V8 etc where all racing at once with different power and weight ranges. F1 has become an empty shell of what it used to be.
@@reinatycoon3644 couldn't be said better , 100% agree with you. Sadly tho i think they are still keeping the hybrid system for the next platform as well. I would love to see the rotary in F1.

That's how F1 should be. It's supposed to be the pinnacle of racing next to insane rallies and hill climbs. So it should also be the pinnacle of what type of differing tech manufacturers and racing teams can create and test. F1 is an empty shell of what it once was now that all cars racing are all nearly the same.

It’s 2025 I think the next engine regs come in I think they’ll go down either the route of two strokes or 4 cylinders

What if is a really good question
Why there is no Rotary engine on F1? Its mass is lower then v12, its rpm is high even in daily use, and its better, have more power, less mass, good culture. Why its not in this?

also, imagine in modern f1 cars had a 5 speed h pattern gearbox
The sound is one thing but what is distracting are the downshifts and upshifts ... the way the f1 cars accelerate and brake Dont match with the slow shifts
put modern gearbox in between and you have the same down en upshifts.
You should have cut out the empty space betwene the shifts of the 787b so it would sound like it still had the f1 gearbox, otherwise perfect
The only restrictions that should exist in f1 is the budget limited for every teams and the number of people working for the teams.
I think we need more of theses mashups !

Like from the prospective of cc to power the rotary exceeds lots of engines, if other companies would have put more engineering into it, it possibly be used in more aplicación..

Of course, that works with renewable diesel, biodiesel, bioethanol, biogas or hydrogen, keeping the same engine, but with a ecologic combustion, produced with recycle materials and waste. 😉😉😉

Also go down with all the aerodynamics again and people would be watching F1 more again. Numbers of spectators and TV viewers would increase and politicians and car manufacturers that aren't totaly nuts would notice, that people aren't that interested in fuel saving or electrical engines at all...

There will be no surprises. The FIA has banned rotary engines since 1991... not legally. Big money and politics.
