If the Vols win the turnover battle they have the talent to make the playoffs. If they don't they will be on the outside looking in.

Would not surprise me if the media outside of Tennessee ranks UT behind Vandy as a dark horse. That hate Heupel and the Vols. No respect ever given. Ask Peyton.
IF Nico producing hiesman quality then Tennessee isnt a dark horse. You couldnt predict Miltons year by Hookers year and you cant predict Nico's year by Miltons.

This is my question every says that Bama is in the second tier, ok they say that Saban is the greatest coach ever , so why is it when that forsay greatest coach ever, how come they not in tier 3 they could seriously be a two loss team after they come to Neyland , then lsu and Auburn has given the greatest coach ever fits at times . I just dont think they going to be the same with Deboer at this time , if they do better than 10-2 then the SEC isnt what it once was the strongest conference ever from top to bottom besides Vandy . I just dont think that a new head coach in this conference can win more than 9 in his first season . I get the talent is there but it is also at Georgia, Tennessee, Ole miss, lsu, texas , and Missouri according to everyone . I dont believe that any team but Georgia is guaranteed a spot in the playoff at this time . The conference is just to strong i can see a 1 loss SEC championship team.
I wouldnt consider Tenn a dark horse team for just the playoffs. I think 10 wins in the SEC gets in 80% of the time. Eveything Im seeing is 9 wins. I think theyre more (to keep in basketball terms) "last 4 in". I think theyre seen as barely making it in or just missing. Id think more of a team that most see as winning 8 games in a tough conf as a dark horse candidate. Or an NC state. They can easily win 10 games but in the ACC most likely not getting in.
And I'd say Thornton is the breakout.
Why do we think our D-line can stop the run, but last year Mizzu ran all over us?? We done great in most games, I agree but what caused Cody Schrader to have such a good game? I know he was good, but surely it was more than him that caused that. It seems like they did better than any team rushing against us.
I do think Keenan being on the field will help slow the run down a lot. Beasley was too small. He had a lot of tackles, but having a bigger body meeting RB’s in the hole will help I think a lot. I’m excited to watch him this year
Linebacker play was not up to par that game. Run fits were not in time. Line held up fine but the backers weren't good. The upgrade to Pili and Carter and Telander having a year in will be a drastic upgrade if the defense is to stop the run as we hope. Safeties also didn't play well that game in run support... really hoping they step up in big way.
So a show full of ifs and buts.
