I hope you enjoy watching the video as much as I did creating it.
I had no idea there were so many real locations in the game. I thought most of them were just random ruins. I'm impressed.
And probably a lot more who's come in HFW
It was the same for me. I love the game like no other. I thought long and hard about every little detail. But I never really realised that many things were modelled on real places and buildings. Of course, things like Yellowstone National Park stand out immediately. But I usually thought that in 2064 many of the real buildings had already been demolished.
Yep. The game is set in areas of Utah, Colorado and Arizona.
@@ryann45 and Wyoming
Same
For someone like myself who was raised in Colorado all my life, this is awesome seeing all these Colorado locations I didn’t realize were in the game. I knew it took place around this area, but didn’t know the mass number of monuments in the game.
Forbidden west is going to be even bigger with more stuff

The Nora tribe is named accordingly to its location, the Cheyenne Mountains where the North American Aeroespace Defense Command (NORAD) was located.
Thought so.
Nora was catchier than the Norad tribe i bet lol
I never knew that. Thanks for sharing :)

I remember when I first started playing this game, I had arrived at Red Rocks amphitheater and it took me a minute to realize where I was. I had just been there for a concert the week prior and the goosebumps I got when I figured it out were crazy. There's a strange sense of pride that I felt when I realized that I was playing in my state. I'll never forget how cool that was.
I had a similar experience with the towers in Salt Lake City. Didn't recognize them at first and then it hit me
1:40 Game has better graphic then that real one photo :D
When you don't live in this area or in the same country, it's increduble to see how many buildings they include in the game. It feel so real to be in this post-apocalyptic world. The ruins give me goosebump and a huge feeling of melancholia...
I love how some all locations have drastically changed in environment and in temperature over the long years. To the point that all that is recognizable, is the graveyard stones of the old ones.
Oh wow I'm playing this game for the second time in preparation for the sequel, also trying the plat. So this video is great for me atm
Plat trophie is basically complete the game
@Andras Medina It's in my top 3, was even my number 1 at one point when I reached the climax
@@BrandonSNG123 not really. It is not much more, but you have to do every sidequest + getting blazing suns on all hunter grounds. I didn’t get plat back when it came out but I did on my recent playthrough,
I love how they not only showed the 1000-ish years effect on the human built structures, but the natural geography
This game gave me one of my favorite moments in gaming. The first ruin that I saw in-game was the Air Force chapel, and it hit me immediately. "That's the Air Force Chapel. Holy crap. We're in _Colorado?_" It was a blast finding all the places in-game that I knew and had grown up visiting.
Red Rocks. Mile High Stadium. Cherry Creek reservoir (probably what the big in-game lake in the ruins of Denver is supposed to be). Arches National Park (there are many more real arches in game than what this video shows). Bryce. Monument Valley. Lake Powell. Yellowstone. Tetons. Bridal veil falls. Shoot, they even put in the wind turbines at the mouth of Spanish Fork canyon. Many more, too many to list.
It's just...how often do you get to wander around a post-apocalyptic version of the place where you grew up? Maybe for those who live in NYC or LA it's no big deal, but for me it was huge.
It's all compressed for expediency, of course. In-game you can run from Colorado Springs to Denver in a few minutes, then over the Rockies to the Colorado Plateau. Yellowstone is a convenient hike away from Denver. It had to be that way or you'd spend days just walking to get anywhere.
I love the developers’ attention to detail!! However some of these I doubt would have lasted a thousand years (the homestead barn for example). I’m excited to see the landmarks in the next game!!
Something to keep in mind through the lore of the game the earth was made completely barren. Which could mean anything from just no life to a complete crash of the ecosystem. Although the earth still had an atmosphere it's all but guaranteed that the earth's ozone was destroyed this most likely would have caused a new ice age in turn literally freezing stuff in time. It was said to be hundreds of years before Minerva was able to crack the code to disabled all the faro robots so that is a decent chunk of time where not to much damage to infrastructure would have occurred. Eventually Aether and Poseidon would start detoxing the earth which would have been a very slow process so and with demeter next in line and the areas we have seen based on tree life I'd say maybe 3 to 4 hundred years before the start of the game is when see started and that's only based on the trees in the frozen wilds. In cold climates trees take forever to grow and all there it's been estimated a few hundred years for a tree to become fully mature in the cold. But I dont think most of those trees are fully matured due to the face that the trees in the shadow carjas territory are much much larger. Humans most likely being the last to arrive are most likely really new. Going based on how we use to age I'd say the elderly are probably late fifties. Using a rough guess of at most prolly 200 years out of the shelters that's gives plenty of time for different cultures to form.
Lucky it was about 350000 years
@@lachlanwilliams1931 it wasnt tho
@@ronaldmorris1462 about 800years give or take a decade
@@wdukes50 800 years for what exactly? What stage of the timeline I mean?
Wow I had no idea they put that much detail into it. I knew it was based on a certain region in America but I hadn't realized that they put so many real locations in the game! Awesome video!
You know I never thought much of these places but now if the world ever enters into a post apocalyptic scenario like this, it is sad that our world would be lost and forgotten and these structures would mean nothing to those in the future.
those places don't have smoke like downgrade west
@@jancloudpedro6699 I think you have more smoke in your lungs, to say such a stupid commentary like that. Be careful with your toxic health, dude...
Blame Ted Faro.
It's unfortunate that the Apollo subordinate was malfunctioned. If not, all our achievements and culture could have been delivered in the post-apocalyptic era
You also have Ted Faro to blame for that.
For me this made half of the game as I was playing. The Vista points were the first things I always did when visiting new areas because it literally gave me chills seeing how it was compared to the past.
This is great! I had no idea the game had places based on real life locations, i love when developers give us these little details. Thanks so much for the effort of finding these before-after comparisons
It's incredible what a huge work lies behind the map development of this game. 😊
there's something eerie about seeing ruined versions of our current day locations but I'm also in love with all thus detail 💖
pretty awesome can't wait to see how new places in forbidden west compare, san francisco and other surrounding areas I'm guessing?

good vid, the detail and love put into zero dawn is really second to none, Elisabet would be proud
Seeing the attention to detail and the sheer amount of work that went into researching these locations and then making them fit in the game, is absolutely mind boggling and one of the greatest things I appreciate about HZD. Excited for the sequel!
When I saw the Air Force Academy Chapel in the game I immediately recognized it. I've been there. The inside is just as beautiful as the outside.
Same! That was the moment I knew where the game was set. It made it so much cooler for me.
The amount of work that must have gone into figuring out where all these locations must have been inspired from…. respect.
Creí que ya te habías olvidado de este vídeo:)
Thank you for making this video! I missed a lot and didn’t realize some of these real locations. This games attention to detail is the most amazing thing ever. So so beautiful and also haunting!
You should do a version where you show their locations on the map.
I recognized alot of the places as i live in Colorado. Was truely amazed at the "makeover" of so many of my home state. Wonderful job!! 😍😍
I love how we( players) can see how those buildings looked in past.
Of course in past in HZD reality,to be precise.
Being a resident of Colorado Springs, it blew me away randomly finding the Air Force academy chapel, I was hyped about it
Just amazing 👏 Didn't know about such many real places in the game. Great work with this video! Thanks!
That's what i've been looking for for a long time! Thank you)
Incredible I had no idea, thank you for posting this
I looove how the delicate arch obviously eroded more over the 2000 years that passed instead of being exactly the same. The attention to detail!
Actualy only 1000 years

Hey I live in Colorado I’ve seen plenty of these locations in real life kinda cool now that I know about it

Espectacular! Gran trabajo!

I was born in raised in San Francisco and it's so sick and surreal to see it in this game!!
Awesome video just ordered a copy
Este video es increíble, gracias por el esfuerzo!! Que maravilla de juego 😍
Didn't know they actually were real locations!
Cool work! Thanks
Thanks for the video 😀
It's no wonder that apocalyptic environments are the best, I love the feeling and how the locations are so wrecked and weathered and how awesome it is how brutally time has changed and I'm excited for Forbidden West because for what we will have a considerable part of city abandoned with nature in the cities of California.
By the way, I hope they add more cities of the ancients of the interior in the way of roads because I feel that sometimes the roads do not have the presence of ancient human beings
its rlly cool to see al this locations in-game even if i dont they think they lasted for so long
Belleza de juego, espero la comparación del 2
ya la hizo hace semanas, búscala si quieres
just bought and downloaded this game from Steam. cant wait to dive in!! I wonder if they used real photoscans as the basis for all the in-game locations, and then used brilliant creativity to show what they might look like in 1000 years after the fall of humanity.
This is fantastic job! Would you have a HZD map with these locations? I only remember some from the game and I'd love to visit!
I’m still convinced that the bunker that is in mothers touch is the Cheyenne Mountain Complex.
Big respect to the content creator 👊🏽
gran video, para repetir con mas juegos , o con la 2 parte cuando salga
i am amazed of how much beautiful this game is, all those locations have good feelings , out of the map of horizon zero there are a lot of places to discover
Curioso. No sabía que había tantas referencias. Las que más me han sorprendido las de accidentes geográficos :O
Amazing montage! Could you do that with Days Gone too? I think it's gonna be even more impressive.
Andamos ya con las ganas de Forbidden West ehh. 😜
Good job !

As a person living in Utah, It really beings a big smile to my face to see familiar locations from my state in this game! Absolutely love it!
I love this game and am on my 4th playthrough before playing Forbidden West. I have never been to the United States, but it is still really cool to see the locations and what they are now, especially the Denver Stadium, I always wondered what that was when playing the game. Thank you for this.
After 15 minutes of watching this video. The music. It became very comical. After a while this is what I heard...
Little voice sample:" I found your left Testicle."
Large voice sample: " Where is it. Where is it!"

I live in Denver and I had no idea Nora lands are basically colorado with devils grief being denver and thirst being colorado springs. Blew me away when I started doing vantages. Colfax avenue is the most dangerous road in Denver between midnight and 6 am so its interesting its got modeled. I love how Littleton, where I was born and raised, and parker, where I live now could in theory be on the map.
most of the first game's sets usually in the middle of the middle north american continent.
does 'wichita salient' spund familiar to you for example?
I'm from Colorado and I remember seeing the Denver Stadium and Red Rocks and was all like "no way...! some of this is in Colorado?!" hell yeah Guerilla y'all nailed it ❤ not many game locations take place here in Colorado, another reason why I loved playing zero dawn
Acho incrível a atenção aos detalhes desse jogo 😮👏💥

Also could be a coincidence but...the structure infront of the pioneer museum (7:10) looks a lot like the entrance to the cauldrons...
Just astonish!
Очень круто! Нигде больше не видел такого детального сравнения локаций!
Согласен.
I’m going to have to do another quick play through of this game because I don’t remember a thing about the story
I on the other hand will never forget the story.
I found the entire story very on and off for me, some parts I really thought were so good and other parts I saw were so wack
@@charlymrivera7236 Why was it boring? Do you mind if I ask you because you said nothing else xd
Because if you think it's boring you didn't play enough games.
I look forward to a video like this when forbidden west comes out.
i absolutely love horizon. and i could never quite place exactly what it was about it. but i knew i loved the environment. but turns out i never realy clocked that i did a roadtri[ once that was prity much the horizon map. i cant belive how many of the places in this videos i have actually visited.and all on the same roadtrip. and i just never realy clocked that horizon was actualy set in liek current US. i jsut assumed gia terraformed the world and created completely unique bios wherever she wanted. but nope turns out its just s scaled down version of that actual area. (+ a bit of ejyptian river nile stuff) :P god dman what a good game
Saw this on twitter, and someone posted pics from Forza Horizon thinking that was the game you were talking about.
Another impressive element when you think about it is all the open areas that are IRL national parks or monuments, Lack any ruins of extensive exploitation. meaning despite how bad things got and despite how powerful the megacorps got, Clearly the national park system survived.
also I guess Glenn Canyon Dam is pretty darn sturdy if Powell is still there. Though admittedly its basically a big hunk of concrete arch wedged into a canyon so it probably will outlast humanity with or without help from killbots.
I'm 46 playing games since 80's and I had to left this comment that : this is not a game but a true masterpiece..Guerrilla games knows so well what they are doing. From their website I found out that they are 350 ppl team, now I wonder what was this game's budget..
Wow what ever they did is INCREDIBLE!
Omg I'm impressed they are so many real locations in the game
Fascinating. Like a sinistrous before/after.
Wow, good job! Where did you find all the info?
So impressed with the amount of research and effort put into making a post-apocalyptic world
