Yes Vikas, you are correct. insertion of video will certainly be helpful. I am trying to insert videos also in some of my videos but not in all. Being in teaching profession, I do not have videos of construction activities. Thanks for your suggestion.
Thanks for the detailed and precise summary with all relevant codes included. I have some doubts, sir. 1. Can SAM be used as a wearing course as it resembles surface dressing? 2. Can we allow traffic on SAM/SAMI? If yes, how soon after construction? 3. If geotextile is already impregnated with bitumen, a tack coat before laying geosynthetics is required or not? 4. The type of geosynthetics that need to be used on the FDR base. As there are many as per IRC SP 59 2019. 5. Which crack relief layer is most effective for the FDR base? Please make a video on the quality control aspects of the FDR base and CRL.
1. No, SAM is an interlayer treatment and cannot be used as top layer. 2. No, traffic should not be allowed on SAM or SAMI layer 3. No 4. There is no such guideline available for type of geogrid, it depends on designer. 5. Aggregate layer
@@SatishIITR Thanks. Sir, MoRTH states that traffic can be allowed after 2 hours of rolling with speed upto 20kmph and sir why Aggregate type crack relief layer is most effective for FDR base. @@surendrachoudhary2063 Impregnated Geotextile can also be used as crack relief layer as per MoRTH 2013, but you need to excercise proper QC. Aggregate layer provides the same function but easy to lay.
Good Afternoo Sir..for a newly constructed Cementitious road (CTB as base course and CTSB as Sub-Base Course) do we need to provide Prime coat and Tack coat over SAMI layer? (as per IRC 37-2018, Fig 12.17, SAMI layer is required over CTB layer). & We are using BC as surface course.
Prime coat is needed on granular layer only and tack coat on bituminous surface. Since SAMI layer is generally low viscosity binder, prime coat is not required above it
Sir Pls tell use of mastic asphalt over structure as a wearing course and why it is used sometimes below or above bitumineous course on structure such as bridge?
Sir, Can i provide a granular crack relief layer(Wmm 100mm) in between existing Bituminous and Overlay Bituminous layer? Ex: Existing BT Layer thickness of 150mm, Design Traffic of 100msa, we found the remaining life of pavement using FWD method that required overlay 100mm of BT layers.
Not a good idea, in my opinion. You should recycle the top 80 - 100 mm Bituminous layer and use this thickness as BSM (Bitumen stabilized Mix). Then place DBM and BC above this layer as per design.
Hello sir.......I'm not getting the 4th type of CRL in any code.......In IRC 37, only first 3 types of CRL has been mentioned as discussed by you sir....... Kindly guide me where i can get the literature of Bituminous impregnated geotextiles.
Sir, The aggregate type of crack relief layer also absorbs stress; shouldn't it be called as Stress Absorbing Membrane Interlayer (SAMI) too. Please reply, sir.
@@SatishIITR Yes, sir, but the SAMI term can also be applied to the aggregate layer type. Why do we only refer to Modified bitumen plus chips as a stress-absorbing membrane interlayer (SAMI), whereas the aggregate layer can also absorb stress and be called SAMI? There is a difference between design and construction, but the terminology is unclear. As a result, many Uttar Pradesh residents call SAMI a geosynthetic layer, which is incorrect as geotextiles distribute stress rather than absorb it. I would appreciate some clarification on terminology.

What is elastomeric modified binder as per IRC 37 ? Is it CRMB or PMB
Both are elastomeric Modified Binder (EMB). Whenever an elastomer is used to modify the binder it is called EMB.

Why in India, SAMI layer is used for low volume traffic roads only, not for high volume?? What its implications for high volume roads ?
It is just a matter of choice. MoRTH specifications allow use of SAMI on highways as well.

Hi Sir. May i know modulus value for SAM & SAMI layer? TQ
SAM and SAMI are not considered as layer in design of pavements.

Aggregate layer is taken as part of the structural layer whereas SAMI is not. The construction difference makes them different.
