I'm contemplating getting the tenor for marching, but it seems it doesn't have a lyre holder (is this the correct word? English is not my native language)
Its interesting in the way that as saxes go, most equipment makes a small difference in your personal sound but the sound of these saxes are a big step down (though still nice in the hands of a good player!). But sound aside this is a game changer in the way that it is seemingly weightless. I wonder how the polycarbonate will do in the scorching sun? If it holds up against the conditions it may fill an important niche in marching band with no compromises - personal sound is less important in a big section and the lightness means so much to help with coordinated movements. Cool product.
This is a high quality review. I appreciate the focus on user friendliness, playing characteristics - you know, the things that actually matter - and not the novelty. Well done, sir!
I'm surprised how good it does sound. If I listened to this video without watching, I would just think it was a normal saxophone. It may not have the tone of a premium instrument, but, it's readily recognisable as a saxophone. It couldn't be confused with any other woodwind instrument.
It looks like the auxiliary front f key isn't opening the high f pad as much as when you hit the high f key. That's probably why front e and f are flat.
would this be a good horn to take on a flight and have a horn just to practice with thinking it can withstand more hits than you precious metal horn you'd like to keep safe at home?
Interesting thing. Thank you guys for great videos :). I am thinkink about the Retro Revival NY alto mouthpiece. Would you make a video review about RR alto mouthpieces? That would be very vrry helpful. Thanks.
@@lukasalihein I've played woodwind instruments. They get spit in them too. Especially that bend at the bottom of the sax. The condensation from the temperature difference of your breath isnt a great look in this clear instrument either.
@@Kenvie2000 Yeah, I'm 26yrs a saxophonist, and I'm saying 95% or more of the liquid in the horn - especially past the mouthpiece - is condensation. There is a little bit of saliva but by the time you get to the bow of the horn it's practically none. It's a common misconception. This video actually is a good demonstration of exactly how much condensation forms inside the horn.
Hi Sax .co.uk ! IMPORTANT Question: Is this Instrument playable with a brass "S Bow"? I could imagine it would get a MUCH brighter sound and better response? All the best!
A “larger reed”? Do you mean a harder reed, e.g. going from a 2.5 to a 3? Or, do you mean playing a baritone sax reed on a tenor mouthpiece? Thank you.
I guess the transparency thing won't work out with all the saliva, but I'm sure hydro-dipping it with wacky and wonderful colours won't change the sound or the weight?
It isn't saliva, it's vapor. Well, maybe sometimes some saliva. Hey, in the San Diego area there's a robot-suit guy, a DJ and a lady with a transparent sax (lit up with diodes) that are for hire. They have some vids up. If you play it in the sun, be sure to spray on some high SPF sunscreen! (But, seriously, I'd keep it out of the sun. Plastic don't like UV.) How about some tint? I'd like indigo or blue. Sound too dull? Yes. Get a bright set up and maybe tweak the EQ a little, and most people won't know the difference, if you can stand it.
Thanks for the interesting video! I have a question about intonation. I play a Yamaha 62 Tenor, with a Theo Wanne Durga Metal 8, and different Synthetic Reeds. I have the problem that I have to work very hard to keep the 2nd octave from the G up to, and especially the Palm keys in tune, in fact they are very sharp even if I pull the Mouthpiece more off the cork. Altissimo is much more in tune. Any thoughts? Cheers, Ben
The key to intonation in that register is practicing overtones. Use your air, tongue, and shape of your oral cavity to get the notes (Don’t use your lips). Then memorize what you were doing to get the overtone and use the standard fingering with the same “settings.” The note should be close to in tune, and from there you can use minor lip adjustments to get it perfect. It takes a while to get the hang of it! I’ve been working on it for about the past year and a half and I just now feel like a have good command of the overtone series. Unfortunately I haven’t put any current videos on RUclips, I’ve gone over to Instagram. Hope that helps!
Mainly the top which will get a lot of condensation. But it mean, it's super light and weather-proof. Marching band wise it's superb. And if you want to make a show, you can maybe put some LED strips on it and blow away everyone. Plus it's really nicely priced :) We'll soon be able to get a full plastic big band, just missing the bari sax / bass trombone
I agree. The novelty's cool but plastic costs less than metal (at least I think it does) so this should cost as much. If it was $400-500, I'd already have one!
Truly and utterly horrible in every respect. On the other hand, we should all be paying tribute to Jims ability to be positive and charming (as always) even when he must be crying inside. Good job Jim.
Get a clear mouthpiece, a synthetic reed, and this horn, and then you got “the ghost sax”
@TheRedstoneLab why you don't buy an synthetic ligature
@@FahsaiVchanCh Because there aren't "synthetic" ligatures
use clear tape for ligature
Phil Johnson stoa makes 3D printed ligatures. Not really synthetic it pretty close.

What we need is a bari and a bass from Vibrato that sound great, that would change the game like crazy
Interesting. A little sweat, a little saliva, it won't be clear long.
Son, practice is over when the bell fogs,,,, keep going.

That's what l was thinking...
That’s my issue with transparent plastic reeds, they look disgusting after you play with them
should be washable if you remove the pads - it's waterproof so it may not be needed

Might be cool to put some color LED lights down inside the bell. Or a black light.

I like this transparent tenor saxophone. 🎷🧊
nice they found the voice actor for Sean Bean
So I'm guessing it's clear so that you can see all the spit pooling in the bottom? Woodwinds don't seem to be the best choice for transparency to me.
