Such a weird rhythm to get your head around. It feels like trying to create a 16th note slapback delay but the delay plays first and you're playing the slapback. So cool
Thank you so much for making this tutorial!! This has been my project for the past couple of months. Would so love a tutorial for the other parts of the song. I would pay for it, I bet others would, too!
This is awesome, thank you. The hardest part for me is wrapping my head around the ONE of the measure being the note from the delay of the previous measure. I just practiced one chord until I got used to the rhythm/delay interaction. Then, moving it around the changes was much easier. Thanks again!!
Joe I think you need to do a video for the folks that dont have a fancy delay like Taka's. Someone needs to explain how to use a tap tempo and how to tap it into the song. How to count the beats. I cannot get my head round this at all lol!! You need to explain it laymens for folks that don't know anything about music theory like me!!
Awww dang I keep waiting for some to do one the teaches the other parts of the song. I saw you play it in the other one. Could you do. One that shows part 2 and 3? Thanks so much I love you!
me, an acoustic guitar “player” who’s been learning for 2 weeks, can’t play a single song, owns no pedals of any kind, and who has absolutely NO goddamn business being here: Interesting.
Start with the time knob all the way to the right at the slowest repeat at Standard delay mode. If you want to go faster, turn it left slightly : ) The rest is adjusting how fast you hit the notes to get that specific repeat pattern. (feedback set to minimum for 1 repeat only)
Hey Taka, have you considered creating a Patreon account? I'm sure there are many who would support a Fluffy Momo Patreon account where you share new videos, and hopefully some lessons and tutorials such as this video.
Hey, I just found this channel because I wanted to learn this song. I couldn't help but notice your Freeze pedal. I've had this pedal for about 10+ years now and the whole time I've been convinced it was a waste of money. Do you have any videos or could you make some on how you use the thing?
Can someone figure out what is the maths behind the 1580ms setting for the delay? According to another video, with the original tempo, the delay setting is 744ms. I am sure there is a way to connect it to the temp but can't figure out how. It should be equal to a 5/16th note right?
It's just a mistake🥴 779 msec is Jonny's correct setting for Thin Thing. So, 1558(1560) msec when doubled. DD200 can set increments of 10 msec when over a sec.
@@FluffyMomo What I wonder is what is the maths that links the tempo (BPM) and the 5/16th time setting on the delay. Or ; how did you figure out the 779ms values ? Here your delay is set at 1580 ms. So it means that 5/16 (or 1.25 beat) = 1580 ms, meaning that 1/4 (1 beat) = 1264 ms. So the tempo = (60 000 * 1.25) / 1580 = 47.5 BPM. But in the video, your tempo is more around 95 BPM which doesn't match my calculation. Any ideas how it works? It could help so set delays from other songs and composition of which I know the tempo. Awesome work by the way! Your videos are amazingly helpful!
Me too kinda. I've been sat here playing it for 30 mins like "it doesn't sound right!?!". Delay mix is exactly 50%, but apparently because there's a "delay A" and "delay B" and both of them are on it's actually slightly above 50%. I only accidentally realised by randomly turning my amp way up and absent-mindedly plucking my low E.
its one hour now in front of this video. Too difificult to understand, i cant imagine composing it. im playing the right hand patron with quarter notes at 96 bpm and the notes never comes in between when i activate the delay pedal
is the riff syncopated ? are the notes on the upbeat and the mutes on the beat right ? also the riff is like divisions of 3 but it's played over 4/4 ? kind of like weird fishes or ?
So nice of Jonny himself to teach us

I think that's the point👌
it takes so much skill to not lose the beat and one single minimal mistake just fucks it all up its insane
you are a gift for radiohead fans , amazing!

This is perfect, Taka! I couldn’t have taught it better myself ☺️
Thanks, Joe! I wish I could explain it in English😂
@@FluffyMomo I think you adapted perfectly fine! But I’m always happy to help if you ever wanted ✌️

You know what I've just had a bit of a eureka moment!! I'm supposed to be job hunting today and instead im trying to nail this song lol!
This could be the most impressive guitar lesson of a radiohead song I have ever looked at - awesome work, thanks so much!
Amazing! This is so perfect as always and I lost everytime I see this beautiful Les Paul.
I was literally about to search thin thing tutorial then saw this on my recommended. Thank you taka!
Awesome! Could you please show what you play during the distorted section? (Like the middle parts in the song)
Yes! This song is so addicting.
thank you, it's very helpful!
I wonder how is-it possible too create something as cool as this riff.
This is genius.
The timing is so crazy but dope
great tutorial dude appreciate that you cover all basis with the riff
That’s rad. Thanks for the breakdown!
Love the crocs too
It's about time to buy a new one...🐊
Super helpful. Thanks, Taka!
Gorgeous, wow, well done!

holy shiet ur a genious for figuring this out

Thanks bro, This is a great cover, I've been looking for it for a long time, thanks! 😎
Impressive work, thank you
my brain just farted trying to comprehend this
Well done Jonny
Love you so much my dude!
Your a god taka, love it💓✨✨
If you could do 'The Opposite" that would be awesome. Similar delay settings but I'm not 100% what he is playing on some parts outside the intro.
Cool enough without the delay!
Part 2 plsssss, this is amazing!
You are the best ma man
Thanks Taka! Does anyone know the equivalent settings for Boss DD-8?

hi taka , how could you set this on a BOSS DD20 .... thanks
Excellent
Nailed it, very good tutorial
Is it possible to do this with normal pedals that only has time, level and repeat?
I think it's not impossible🤔
🎵🎶Let's go down the rabbit hole. With fluffy Momo. 🎵🎶

this is so good thanks

Hi does anybody know what is the E. Level? Is that the MIX knob in the dl4 and strymon?
It's the volume of the effect.
@@FluffyMomo thank you.

Hi, can you say how do you mute the strings? No matter how i try to mute them they don't produce this *tapping* sound.
Left hand for the mute. More specifically, side of the index finger.
Thanks!
With this I found out my delay pedal sucks 😂😂😂

"Making mushrooms out of men"
i have a boss DD7 how can i achieve it :/
Which finger is best to pluck the open B string?
Index finger, IMO☝️
And thanks again!
Thanks to you!🙇♀️🙇♀️🙇♀️

It's just 6/8 or 12/8. Apparently the lively section in the middle is in 4/4 but I haven't tried to learn that
The mutes are on the downbeat, yes. The key to getting the delay right is that it's a dotted eighth note feel.
Could I do this with the TC electronic alter ego?
Probably! You can do it with a delay pedal that contains loop mode.
@@FluffyMomo I sorta got it! Took a bit plus the technique is so unusual
You set the DD-200 to 1.58 seconds on the slow. What is the delay during normal play?
Between 750 to 780
what's the bpm of the song? pleaseee
can I play this on an analogue delay?
@@mightyquinn38 Well, I think it's tough. because it needs a longer delay time than analog's.
How many ms the delay time?
779
Is this the same technique he uses in Present Tense? 🤔
Yep.
sticking one of those cheap pick dispensers right on a $3k guitar's finish, damn dude
Anyone know the bpm of the song? it would help me out a lot
approx 85 or 190 depending on your measure length
@@skywardstargaze1768 thanks fam
hang on 85*2 is 170... Well 170 is close enough actually.
Yes!
Gracias :3
🤯
This is so damn difficult to get your head around. god teir riff!
I’m so sad that i can’t play this on acoustic guitar :’(
Nvm i can 😂
Was Jonny always asian?
he made the change a couple years ago
Thanks!
Thanks!
