I think more than inspired. He probably had the film on repeat while writing his "original screenplay". Wes Anderson, on the other hand, was inspired by this film when he wrote the script for Moonrise Kingdom.
@@iamBIGBROOX Well actually Badlands *and* True Romance were both inspired by the real life crime spree of Charles Starkweather, and his 14 year old girlfriend Caril Fugate. Also, Natural Born Killers was inspired by the Starkweather crimes. Idk what it is about the Starkweather crimes, but they really stand out to me. I guess because it was the first time Americans domestically lost their innocence, if that makes any sense? Like wars and such happens overseas, bad things happen in dark alley of seedy towns, out of sight out of mind. But when two teenagers from your town, any “normal” American small town, go on a killing spree... that’s captivating the whole country. Everyone thought they were next. You can’t ignore it then. You can’t ignore when you absolutely could be their next victim, because like Holly and Kit, Charles and Caril (I believe Charles did all the killing and Caril was just struck w fear/trauma/the toxic infatuation she had w her older boyfriend) killed everyone in their path... even 3 people who were trying to actually help them. No wonder it’s inspired so many films, books, and songs.
My own personal three are the superb cinematography by Tak Fujimoto, the unique "atmosphere" that this film has; if indeed it is correct to say that a film can have an atmosphere? And the soundtrack, especially the use of Gassenhauer from Carl Orff's Schulwerk Volume 1: Musica Poetica. A true classic!!!
the face painting on Sissy Spacek reminded me of Moonrise Kingdom, and the overall theme of both films being a fairy-tale too makes you think about t a connection
I just watched this last night and I totally agree! I don't know if it was intentional, because when he talked about his influences for Moonrise this wasn't listed, but I definitely thought of all those similarities while watching Badlands.
Do any of you agree that Wes Anderson made a lot of tributes to Badlands in Moonrise Kingdom? Ex: The music, the woods, the two young lovers, the use of binoculars?
A starkly haunting film. If you want to see Sheen's precursor to this character watch The Incident his '67 debut film where he plays one of two maniacs who terrorize passengers on a late night subway car. It is a scary film!
@@littleghostfilms3012 - I'm a big fan of his performances in The Dead Zone (He played slime so well.), Catch Me If You Can, and The Departed. Everyone seems to say that his best work was The West Wing. I've never seen the show, but I did like him in The American President.
Andres Escobar ---- The second track is "Manière de commencement" by Erik Satie. But this is a ethereal orchestrated version (with xylophones and oboe [?]... sounds like if it was Orff and Keetman playing Satie!), I never found anywhere. All you can find on iTunes or elsewhere is the original piano version or some guitar versions.
+cozdenoglu --- Yes, it's "Passion" by Carl Orff and Gunhild Keetman. It's in the suite Musica Poetica (which Malick used a lot for this movie). You can find it on iTunes, for 0.99$. It's a 2min12 section within a longer track. I can send you the edited track if you wish, I mean only the "Passion" section which Malick used in the film. I burned a compilation of my favorite Malick's soundtracks. I bought most tracks on iTunes and cut some in which Malick used only a specific part.
Badlands is a fictional portrayal of real life Lincoln, Nebraska spree killer Charles Starkweather and his young girlfriend Carol Ann Fugate. Bruce Springsteen wrote a song about it on his Nebraska album. He used a Starkweather line "saw her standing on her front yard just twirling her baton" and they literally did this in the movie Badlands. The movie Natural Born Killers is fictional, but the killings are very true to the Starkweather story. Tons of pop culture tie ins to that famous series of murders back in 57-58'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Starkweather

Sheen was born to play this role. He is beyond awesome, and Sissy is just perfect, too.

@@iamBIGBROOX I heard that Moonrise Kingdom was inspired by the movie Melody
It's a total ripoff imo except with 70s exploitation action he likes.

Also I think Bruce Springsteen owes about 90% of his songwriting credit to this film
0:07 How dumb am I? I just realized that Sheen standing with his arms over the gun in the field makes him look exactly like a scarecrow.
or James Dean, or a christlike allusion
When I first saw that part of the movie, I thought for a second that it was some scarecrow.
@@davidsnow2420 Yep .The crucifixion figure.
This is a better trailer for the movie than the actual trailer.
#Truestory too ''eh.
Watched Badlands for the first time two night's ago. Easily one of my favorite pictures, now. 👍👍💞
Reasons Why.
1. It's Badlands.
Probably one of his best with such underrated cinematography and performances
1. The cinematography
2. Sissy Spacek
3. Martin Sheen
Ypu are absolutely right!
You
Of course a film can have atmosphere. It gives you a sense of place doesn’t it?
Definately the best movie I have ever seen from beginning to end!
5-plus stars! Two thumbs up!
the face painting on Sissy Spacek reminded me of Moonrise Kingdom, and the overall theme of both films being a fairy-tale too makes you think about t a connection
i was stunned to hear this soundtrack.... and how 'true romance' basically stole it.... sad i didn't see badlands until last night
This is one of my fave movies EVER!!!

yes for sure
"The girl next door"! I never had a girl like that living next door... Not even in the same street.

I read that this movie is Sheen’s best performance.
@@matthewschwartz6607 It's definitely one of the best. Captain Willard in Apocalypse Now is also a top role.

A beautiful, poetic meditation on the banality of evil.
A film that becomes more and more haunting every time I see it.
The best film ever made!
Mickey & Sylvia - Love Is Strange
I love the dance scene
Pretty sure Bruce Springsteen owes about 90% of his songwriting credit to this film
One of the reasons should have been the face that Terrence Malick was actually ON CAMERA!
Lol
This film would have been perfect for James Dean,
This trailer gave me chills!
Masterpiece.
Martin sheen so cool in this film
Película que cada vez gana más con los años.
Definitely on my top 10 list
Beautiful film 🎥🎬🙌❤
I always thought Martin Sheen looked like James Dean. That is why he got a lot of his early roles.
I've resisted this film but it is ballsy filmmaking.
masterpiece

+cozdenoglu --- So you were ok with the title only?
What is the melody at the beginning of the video? Thanks!
When I saw the dancing scene in Badlands that's exactly what I thought too!
I know, i have yet to see the entirety of both of hose films
❤️ Sissy Spacek
Idk to me I'll always see the girl who got her period and was bullied
@@cinemaking9887 Carrie.
No worries, Sissy Spacek was actually 22 when they filmed Badlands.
4) If it wasn't for this movie Sissy Spacek would have met Jack Fisk, they wouldn't have gotten married, and had two daughters.
what song is at the end of the video, get me groovin.
Idk what this movie is about but ive been to badlands south Dakota before.

She should play Carrie.
Does anybody know the song played on the second reason? I believe is Satie but I am not sure
Is that visually stunning or what ? Don’t need to hear a word
Yeah I agree, the dancing as well.
Yes that too!
It is Satie. Gnossiennes 1. Lent
I thought that when I watched Moonrise Kingdom!
It feels good to get a lot of likes in a comment. It actually took me some time to figure that out.
I feel like Wes Anderson borrowed somewhat borrowed from this film for Moonrise kingdom.

What is the second songs name?
✌️
Shame he never played james dean story he could of played him great
hahaha, that's a good thing!
You chose a Malick film for a three reasons video? How dare you...Malick can't be justly minaturized!
So Hans just plagiarized and perfected that theme
3 Morceaux en forme de poire
That's not going to happen.
Aaaaaa! Take the True Romance music off! Tarantino was critical of the whole fairy tale thing.
PrivateAckbar you dumb? Tarantino stole the music from Badlands.
@@kmanet4118 it wasnt tarantino that made the film though, it was Tony Scott, tarantino only wrote the film (script)
Definitely. It's sad the film was so subpar though.
