A great spot to visit, I live 10 minutes away. Proves to all the inclusive folks how old England is and how rich and deep the history of the indigenous Europeans are.

I can trace my ancestors (father's side) back to 1640 Woodbury. Love this stuff. Thank you!

This is a poem taught to me by my grandmother:
    'William the Conqueror, 1066,
Said to his barons "I mean to affix
    England to Normandy -
Go out and borrow some bows and some arrows:
    We're starting tomorrow!"
    So William went conquering
    Hither and thither
    Till Angles and Saxons were
    All of a dither.
    He conquered so quickly
You could not keep count of the counties he conquered.
Ten or a dozen - or maybe a score.
And I haven't a doubt he'd have conquered some more.
But death put an end to his tactics, thanks Heaven
    Of William the Conqueror, 1087!'
Hope this gives you a giggle!

Love your channel. My surname is classed as pre-7th century Old English/Germanic and means Wolf Daring (Wulfnoth)

Research in to my ancestors have lead me to see my last name was derived from Woodbury which become Wooberry and eventually Whobrey.

I found Owain and Gruffydd jn my tree but I’m curious where we went to and from Rhynie Rhys? Did they also follow the female line? These family lines are so difficult to trace. ❤ Is there a place that sits down with us over there to help us locate our family ancestral homes and lands??🥰

The female line is equally valid! I'm descended from Gruffydd through his daughter Gwenllian. I am sure you could pay someone from a Welsh genealogical society to trace your ancestry for you. I haven't done that myself.

@@SarahWoodburyBooks Thank you so much!! This rabbit hole is so deep with records being hard to come by!! Thank you dear cousin. I know as PICTs they went off the female line, So the welsh lines did as well? Talk about girl power. This thread is the lotto I’ve been looking for. It answers so much.

@@MissEricaLynn33 They did record names by the male line, so a girl would be Catrin ferch Gruffydd, but if you mean tracing your ancestry, moms count as much as dads. As they should!

@@SarahWoodburyBooks Okay. This helps too!! Thank you!! This helps explain the ferch. I’m testing the depth of this water with both feet. 🤣💙 Been doing this upper branch for a yr. Phew. I was LOSTTTTT without your videos. Been difficult to find much, idk how I never saw your page before now. Maybe I finally searched with the right words but wow. Haha, like that your last name is derived from Wodin, which means "crazed"! But truthfully, you look far from crazed. Enjoy your videos very much and anything medieval England. Think in another lifetime, I must have lived there! Hope I was a wealthy aristo and not a peasant or slave! 😊
