    Back in day we didnt worry about tic, we all knew warm up was engine expanding. Unless it was a knock or slap then we looked.

      Sadly a lot of non-mechanically inclined people like to own sports cars nowadays. So they like to treat cars like ordering a cup of coffee, it has to be perfect.

      @@manrightchea Well, you have to consider Ford's response to the issue. They are replacing parts and whole engines, so you can't blame owners for being concerned. If the manufacturer thinks there's a problem, then there might very well be.

    • @manrightchea
      @manrightchea 5 лет назад +1

      @@darreno1450 Ford's response is likely similar to mine, which is that a loud valve train is not necessarily an actual issue. Very many engines have loud valve trains yet run very reliably.
      Issues are always serious to non mechanically minded people.

    For all of those calling this a rod knock or piston slap, this noise has to be the lightest, most inconsistent knock or slap that I've ever heard. Remember when GM had a piston slap issue with their truck V8 engines in the early 2000's? Now that was a true piston slap issue. Being an X- Ford technician of almost 20 years I've never heard a rod knock or piston slap like this. I'm not gonna pretend that I know what this issue is exactly but I'm confident that it's not what others are saying it is. My 2018 5.0 F150 doesn't have this tick and it's just about at 5k miles. The only real difference in the lower end of these two vehicles is the oil pans as far as I can tell. The F150 is also composite but it holds 8.8 quarts instead of 10 like the Mustang. I could be way off base here but I also believe that this is way overblown and heavily speculated upon. I'm sure that Ford is working on this issue and will have a fix soon enough. Good vids Zander. I'm looking forward to the mods!

    • @hks9489
      @hks9489 5 лет назад +3

      You are correct, the sound is nothing like piston slap or rod bearing wear.
      Its high pitched and irregular so it’s likely a smaller component.
      This has been present in Ford v8 engines for years, but has only now gone viral.

    • @hdz12ez
      @hdz12ez 5 лет назад +1

      @@hks9489 I've watched some vids on this tick and some are louder than others. It almost sounds like the noise is from the oil pan itself. Maybe the windage tray is expanding while warming up? Maybe oil is being splashed differently when cold and causing a false tick and going away when warm due to being thinner? Just thinking out loud but I'm certain that it's not slap or knock from pistons or rods.

  • @shawnsanders9450

    The tick on mine is just like yours but oddly it doesn't tick on the first cold start up. I mostly notice it after I drive home from work which is like 5mi then I will shower and stuff and like a hour or two later start it up and there it is. It happens EVERY time. Like yours it goes away when at full operating temperature. This happened before the first oil change. At 700 miles I changed the oil looking for metal and got nothing. I put a Magnetic drain plug in it and I will change the oil again around the 2200 mile mark and see what I see.

    • @shawnsanders9450
      @shawnsanders9450 5 лет назад

      @@cahsib6089 that's your car and you can do what you want but there is no way I would trust that blend oil to 9k miles especially on the factory oil while everything is breaking in. Plus the factory warranty is 60k. Ford wants you buying a new car from them. They dont care what happens after the warranty so they just want it to have no problems till then. If your seriously going to go that long get a full synthetic. Valvolines Full synthetic test well especially for the price and nothing beats Amsoil Signature series oil if you really love your car. That's what I would use for the full oil life monitor. Hell, as soon as I heard my tick on my 19 around 700mi I changed the oil. Put a Valvoline blend in it this time but will switch to full synthetic in another 1500 miles or do another blend change and switch to Full synthetic 3k miles after that.

    There isn’t a single logical reason to buy a new mustang gt over a used gt350.
    Mustang gt premium new is actually more expensive then a used gt350..
    Even if you are planning on serious modifications and justify it by saying it’s just the gt fastback and you are “saving money, but after mods it will be faster.” This would still be wrong and the gt350 wins again. The cost of all the supporting modifications vs a car that can already handle it.
    The new mustang gt has no place. Gen 2 coyotes make the most sense for a daily if you are modding as well. You can get a in warranty gt w/ pp under $30k.
    There is nothing wrong with liking what you like and doing things just because. But that doesn’t make it the most optimal.

    Hypereutectic pistons are typically a little noisey when the engine is cold. The will become more noticeable as the car ages. Build the car and send it, if the ultimate fail happens , get a built short block with liners and forged pistons and move on. You cant have a performance engine and not beat on it and nothing is indestructible. Thinner blocks and aluminum oil pans and plastic intakes all make things seem louder, add direct injection and well you get the point.

    Okay, you got my sub Zander. I will go on this adventure with you. Very interested in your opinion on this as you talked about in the last video I am indeed worried about Ford's quality control and warranty support on the new Mustang GT. I have driven a couple of pre-2018 S550s and really was impressed with this motor but indeed the issues with both new transmissions is a concern. I am kinda old, well old enough that my first car ever way back in 1983 was a 1969 Mustang coupe with a 351w. So I am already a Mustang lover and really was thinking about getting this new one next year but was having second thoughts. Honestly I think as you pointed out this whole thing might be a bit overblown as the actual number of affected cars is fairly small overall. One item of note is my local dealer has the lifetime powertrain warranty for original owners here with every car they sell. I was planning on purchasing this one and keeping her. Going to follow your progress and see how your does. Keep up the awesomeness...

Second, I too, am a military veteran who did 6 years active duty in the USAF as an air base ground defender/security forces personnel and 4 years reserve as a medical technician. Thirdly, I have purchased a 10 speed 2021 Ford Mustang GT in late January 2022 after trading my previous 10 speed 2018 Ford Mustang Ecoboost after having that vehicle for nearly 4 years this August. Well, at exactly 5803 miles, I had the first engine oil change on 06/24/22 at the Ford dealership using Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 at 10 quarts and prior to the first change, I had came across your previous video when you did your oil change and mentioned the engine tick. Well, about well over a month ago I had noticed that there was a tick I would hear upon a cold start, but as I kept it idling and warm up, it did go away. That being said, should I still have it looked into? Any advice would help.

If they had an explanation i'd feel better about it but they don't. All they say is that it shouldn't sound like that. That being said we also don't know if it's cause damage or if it's a overall problem.

    If the 2018-19 Coyote has a cylinder wall scoring problem, friction modifier is a REALLY good idea to hopefully prevent that from happening..Once the damage is done, now it becomes a bandaid ... Glad it's working Z-man. I don't have the digital dash. I can't count the gears cause it's to crazy and fast. Trim that damn beard son. I get you and stangmode mixed up.. Mrs Z needs her own channel. For sure.

    cold start tick here too. after 5 min....glass smooth. "03 Cobra had the cold start piston slap which didn't affect it. Not really worried about it too. If I do go power adder then might as well do Ceratec.

    Toyota had this issue with piston shirt (going to small) saving weight and extra power. Could be what the tick is on these motors.

    Great video I don't like the fact that ceratec has molecules that stick to surfaces may clog over time and it looks like puke. It may be a great product. I would not like the oil to look like that on the dipstick.

    • @bustinyanutz4195
      @bustinyanutz4195 5 лет назад +2

      You are absolutely correct some of the oil passageways are very small and i would think after time it surely will clog these ports

    Got the same tick. Ford said was normal. What transmission issues did you have? Mine does some strange shifts in sport and track mode.

      Saif Abdalla has an issue with the transmission in sport mode also. The tick was pretty bad at idle. I just traded in when they said it was “normal”. Saw a video where it looked like the crank shaft had too much play in it.

    My 18 had it and ford bought it back. Do I order a 2020 when it's available for order? Think the issues will be solved by then?

  • @DragNetJoe

    I blame the watery 5W20 oil that is recommended so manufacturers can get 1.5% credit for their CAFE calculations. Ford recommends 5W30 for track. I would use 5W30 all the time. And no, the engine isn't going to explode because the "oil passages are too small". Do some research on 5W-20 and CAFE standards. When 5W20 oils were first introduced, the EXACT same engines were being sold overseas with 5W30 recommended. In some cases the EXACT same engines were being sold in the US in different brands with 5W30 recommended.

    That's weird. The tick on mine can be heard when it's warm. When I do the cold start I don't really hear it.

    • @bluecollardaily2676
      @bluecollardaily2676 5 лет назад +1

      Me too his is probably just a little extra piston to wall which will actually help him when he boost it unless some scoring is present already

    Happy New Year's! Glad the reflash worked.
    From what I have seen, there are 3 things that cause the tick. 1; the Intake Manifold Runner Control valves rattle until the Intake is warm and the plastic swells up. 2; it's piston slap from the piston to cylinder wall clearance is a bit too much but that is a extremely low possibility. And 3; it's the valve lash adjusters in the heads. 4.6s and 5.4s are notorious for this problem.
    I found that ZMax, Lucas Oil Stabilizer, Best Line, and a few other oil additives do help alleviate the tick.
    My 97 Thunderbird LX with a 4.6 SOHC has the lash adjuster tick. I've always used Mobil 1 oil since it was new. I use ZMax and 1/2 bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer with the Mobil 1 oil and the tick lasts for a few secs after a cold start.
    Don't know if this will help you but it is worth a try.
    Again, Have a Great New Year's and looking forward to the transformation of the mustang.
    Thank you for your service in the military! It is greatly appreciated by me and my family.

    Hi, Zander13 I had a same transmission issue ,where it was making a clunck noise once a while, but since I disconnected my battery for five minutes,it seems to go away but it does do some hard downshifts when coming to complete stop. ANY ADVICE?
