    Beautiful sounds and track. I recently picked up the limited edition JD-Xi in red. Wanted to control it from another full size keyboard as I'm not a fan of the min keys. The more videos I watch with people performing on this little monster make me realize that I got to learn it. This is really good !

    i have made some AWESOME drum programs on the jdxi... but now to go where our boy woody has gone... extend it to four measures and have an actual melody with chord changes. incredible machine.
    i have the casio xwp1, the korg micro and the novation mininova. all four together rock the house.

    Love what you've done with this Woody (and everything else on the channel). As others have said, it's great that you adapt a piece of kit creatively. As a 'keyboard dabbler of a certain age' it inspired me to pick up one of these and muck about to create electronica sounds from my youth. Keep the good work going 👍

    This is superb, I kind of regret selling mine. What i can say is there is an overlay from Roland which really helps and which i fitted. I hate mini key synths and for me if this were in a 49 synth action unit of full size keys,Then it would be a keeper. The Analog part is week. But as a sketchpad for ideas there is nothing to rival this. Anyway onward's and upwards as i bought an AN1X with the funds and have fell in love with it.:) Nice demo Woody you are the man.

    Hey Woody, just subscribed to your channel and have really enjoyed what I've seen so far. Just about to purchase a JD-Xi and I guess, from your reaction and work, I going to enjoy it. Outgoing keyboard is my Korg Krome. Just too steep a learning curve to have instant fun. Fingers crossed. Cheers.

    Wow. Slogging through the sea of JD-Xi review videos for pre-purchase research, I would have never dreamed to stumble on something so magical. This is incredible, well done sir.
    My mind is blown a bit actually - do you have any other toys plugged in to your JD-Xi here? Or is it your DAW? I see your sequencer flash through once, then the sequence then repeats and VARIES 3 times afterwards without the sequencer lights on - how the hell are you doing that?
    I've been playing around in ambient land for a few years now, and this precise layering structure is something I've been trying to attain the entire time. Tell me your secrets!!

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  4 года назад +2

      hi, thanks, i should listen again, i liked this track and it's been a while, everything played by jd-xi in one take, the DAW is handling the recording and extra verb! the absence of lights is because the sequence is much longer than available lights, i played in at half time to get double length pattern, check my tutorial & review vid, cheers

  • @Arbitrarynamehere

    Absolutely love this piece. Your sense of flow inside the track is spot on, and it's evident that even within a fairly simple premise, you can build character and soul into it. I am having a hard time not using this as the final excuse to get my mitts on a JD-XI, but in truth, I don't think it's the synth that sells this video. It's your musicality. Thank you for making, and sharing, this!
    (I do wonder though, I've read a lot about the build quality of the keys on the JD-XI. Did you experience any flakiness on that account?)

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  6 лет назад

      thanks claes, very happy that you found some soul in this piece, that¨s quite an achievement for a little synth with mini keys. talking of which, i had no problems, but after reading the posts on the facebook group I treated it very carefully

    Very nice! What do you think about the "Mini Keys"? Does it take some time getting used to them?

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  8 лет назад +1

      hello! i got used to them immediately. i don't have a problem with them, they are quite responsive and nice to play. i think 37 mini keys is better than 25 full sized keys on a compact synth.

    I hate to ask, but im new to synth and just got a jdxi. im trying to recreate this song as practice. i found the patches in the comments, but could you tell me the chords or notes youre using for the main riff? i thought this sounded really cool btw.

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  4 года назад

      just an improv, didn't make any notes about the notes :) you'll have to figure out by ear I'm afraid, but that's always a good exercise.

    How do you get it to be so slow? The tempo? Is it 8 bars?

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  6 лет назад +2

      don't remember, but it's a trick to get double the pattern length limit by halving the tempo and doubling the quantization.1/16 to 1/32. ok that's halving.. :) there are youtube vids showing how to do it.
