I can't see anything of the actors once they become their characters. Their talent is incredible. I knew Suranne was a good actor but didn't realize quite how good she could be. She literally became Anne Lister. I haven't seen Sophie in as many shows but the way she plays Ann, with that halting, stilted speech when she's either feeling unsure or being mowed over by someone more self-assured, and then the times when she laughs or breaks into goofy smiles at times when you'd think she wouldn't-I absolutely believe I'm looking at Ann Walker. And everything else? Utterly fantastic. All of the other actors, the writing, the costumes! And being able to do so much of it actually at Shibden Hall-I've been thrilled by this series since S1, E1. I'm so disappointed it isn't being picked up for a season 3. I hope we're able to convince HBO or someone else that it will be worth it for them to do at least two more seasons.
what a great comment. Its funny but I watched the entire peaky blinders show and then staight after I watched Gentleman Jack. It wasnt until season two that I realised I had seen Sophie in something else, i then realised she was Ada in Peaky Blinders. Thats what a great actress she is that she can become that person you almost dont recognise her. Not many actors can do this. Daniel Day Lewis, John Hurt are a few that come to mind.
However acting works as they developed their lovely and solid friendship, well, keep it up because their roles are very rich and above all for a viewer, quite believable. Simply put, this a great series that has been developed by Wainwright and she certainly chose amazing actors who have a remarkable chemistry. All the cast are fantastic, but Suranne and Sophie come across as the real thing in their performances. Brava!
Glad they were so supportive off each other, Suranne's dad died of COVID after 3 months in hospital whilst filming gentleman Jack. As well as having a baby Sophie also got COVID.
Absolutely love it! Love how Suranne and Sophie really care about the characters and the affection comes across, very subtle but very loving, and so interesting in that time, I'm loving it!!!! Everything the clothes, the hair, etc! 😉🥰💕
Loved the first season and looking forward to this too. It's nice to know they care for each other as well. It must make it a lit of fun for them going to work each day.
It’s a great feeling of a lesbian being celebrated but such an odd feeling for me bc I’m used to people not being supportive that these actresses can dive into the life and express and feel and understand and relate and make normal what I expect them to react abnormal. I’m so very happy for the lightness of it all.
So interesting how they look the same age in these behind-the-scenes fun photos, and then the age gap becomes cavernous as soon as they are in character.
As much as I loved the show another season would break my heart. Season 2 takes place in 1834. Anne Lister died in 1840 so a third season would probably have to address that event.
After Mariana and Anne lister's kisses. Ann Lister and Anne Walker has to get some better kisses in. This is an awesome story let's hope for more seasons
So good that the love , ups and downs of a relationship between two women in history is amazing and as a straight lady I wouldn't have been shocked at seeing two same sex kissing at a a young age when it was all hush hush. I was educated by nuns!! Says everything!, Who were evil and made children feel sinful/guilty if different

Such a contrast in their characters....Suranne's Ann...so formidable......Sophie's Anne....so vulnerable. A great show that truly deserves a season 3
...and 4 and 5!
@@JessGrtz it would have to be a back story for that
@@lynnlRDR-RDR2not at all. We could easily do six seasons each with eight episodes. Anne Lister doesnt die until she is almost 50.

Reminds me of the Cate Blanchett / Rooney Mara "crush."
Then truth,we are back then.

The actresses are about 10 years apart in age.

Сюранна такая напыщенная, играет слишком театрально
А мне нравится.
Hope HBO gives fans a 3rd.session.one of best series on their channel.
