I have autism and I've been told I have tunnel vision. So, I think that whatever I choose to focus on becomes 'hyper focus' due to blocking of all other stimuli. Blocking everything other than what I'm focusing on is the only way I can think, so, in a way, it's a survival mechanism

That guy drawing is also Savant. That's why he has so good memory and can remember details so well.

I didnt speak or look at any of my classmates when I was in grade school through highschool, I only looked at or spoke to adults because I decided that all of my classmates were a threat and that they were all the same. I remember one counselor telling me I couldnt live my whole life in a box and I asked her why? I didnt understand what the problem was with it. I wave my hands and arms a lot when talking in some strange way that makes people make fun of me. Most people complain angrily that I am a terrible communicator and I cant understand what they mean. They also complain I interrupt when to me it seems we are having conversation, I dont get it. I am afraid of talking on the phone and I cannot do texting because it interrupts my focus and makes me angry. I hate when people move my things, I have no friends and am afraid of interacting with people. I spend most of my life afraid if I am with people or have to interact with them. Doctors often yell at me and become upset when I am ill and have to take myself to urgent care, I dont know why, but something about my attitude they cant stand. I have multiple high degrees but I work only at manual labor, I cannot think if people are talking to me. I am only happy and comfortable when I am alone in solitude in nature or close the door to my little home and am inside alone where no one can get me or step on my projects or move my things. I am over 50, I dont know what to do or how to get help because I am afraid of people and phones. Am I autistic?

I am Autistic as well and for every workplace that never saw me as a fit I just hope one day for that one that will let me spread my wings and fly.

Very interesting video. I was diagnosed with Autism some years ago and yes my Art is all about the detail I try and make the whole composition work as I know other people prefer that but It's not important to me.

My autism expressed negatively in shut-downs due to sensory overload. However, from a very early age I had an unusual ability to concentrate. I learned piano very much on my own. I had perfect pitch (and synesthesia with colors). I have made my living mainly as a piano tuner. Tuning a piano requires you to focus in on a single harmonic, that is not even the note that most people are listening to. When I was a kid, I used to lie on the ground at night and focus in on the light of a single star. I would try to put my mind entirely within that light.

So on one hand, with autism we have social difficulties. On the other hand, we have a detail-oriented mind. It seems to me that these two aspects need to be viewed separately, or do one always lead to the other and vice versa? Are both these traits present in the majority of autistic individuals? I'm gonna be researching about this.
