Thank you, your tutorials are so clear, this is refresher for me as I used to knit a lot but been too busy for 20 years. The worldwide knitting community is a lovely place
Thank you for this! The last tutorial I watched said slip both stitches knit wise then purl through the front, it turned out really untidy. This is much better!
Hello! I'm afraid I don't know how to answer your question without seeing the pattern you're following. Would you be able to send it to customerservice@purlsoho.com? Then I'd be happy to take a look!
Hi Reesa, yes! All of the stitches on the knit side of our swatch are knit stitches. You may encounter patterns though that incorporate these decrease stitches within more complicated stitch patterns!
I'm new to knitting. What's the purpose of transferring the knits from the left to right needle and then transferring them back to the left again? Thanks!
Great question! Transferring the stitches back and forth helps to orient the stitch in the proper direction to set up the decrease for success. Let us know if you have more! Happy knitting!
Thanks 🙏 for the lovely explanation May I ask if you have a link for jumper for girl age 4 years old With the V neck If you don’t mind to send it please I would appreciate that Best wishes
Hello! We have a few different patterns for kids' garments. Here's a link to all our garment patterns that come in kids sizes! www.purlsoho.com/create/category/knit-garments/knit-garments-size-kids/
It's definitely a point of preference, but we like the look of the slipped purl stitch as it doesn't add any additional twist or bulk to the decrease. You may want to try both and see which you prefer!
I was just thinking about this too! As a first time knitter it was confusing to see other videos doing SSP with a slip knit first. Definitely would have liked some warning about that.
Laura purls the first two stitches to create a stockinette border along the edges of the swatch, and it's not related to the actual technique.Your understanding of the two decrease options totally works for this tutorial! Thanks for writing in and happy knitting!
Maybe I’m just getting old, but it’s difficult to see what she’s doing with the camera zoomed so far out. Wish Purl Soho would do close-ups. Their video tutorials are amazing, and I’d like to get more out of them without straining to see.
Sorry to hear your having issues Nissa! Please know that we also have written directions for most of our tutorials on our website www.purlsoho.com and have recently upgraded our tutorials to allow for full screen viewing - we hope this helps!
Thanks for writing! Sometimes if your purls are too tight, you can try to first slip them purl-wise from your holding needle to your working needle (in this video, the left needle to the right needle) then place them back on your holding needle. Sometimes slipping them back and forth can loosen them up just enough to manage the decrease. We hope this helps! Let us know if you run into more issues!
Thanks for writing in! This technique comes in handy whenever a pattern indicates you should decrease on the reverse side of a stockinette pattern. Enjoy!
For this demonstration we are only doing decreases on the purl side - so if you're looking to create the same shape, you'll simply knit all your stitches on the knit side. Happy knitting!

We agree! And thanks Aileen!
This decrease is an awesome decrease on the purl side of my toe up socks heel. Simply wonderful. Thank you

Glad we could help!
Every time I see a Purl Soho video in my email social inbox I get excited. Its like Christmas every time. Thank you! :)
Great explanation! Thank you from Brazil!
I have directions to SSK as if to Purl. Is this correct or should I work it as SSK? Ty

Hi! Thank you for the tutorial. I was wondering if we just knit on the knit side as normal when doing this decrease? Thanks!

When you do SSP, why do you slip the first stitch purl wise instead of knit wise?
It's definitely a point of preference, but we like the look of the slipped purl stitch as it doesn't add any additional twist or bulk to the decrease. You may want to try both and see which you prefer!

Is there a reason you purl the first 2 before the purl2tog? I usually just purl2tog the first two and ssp the last two

When I try to purl 2 together the stitches are too tight

Where would you need this technique?

Hi :)
in order to obtain the initial triangular shape how do I have to work the knit row?
Thanks!
For this demonstration we are only doing decreases on the purl side - so if you're looking to create the same shape, you'll simply knit all your stitches on the knit side. Happy knitting!
Ssk
Hello! You can find our ssk tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/KEsNBIC5cZU/видео.htmlsi=8-jjIa0wB-9I-i-L
I agree. Camera too far away and needles and yarn WAY TO SMALL for a tutorial.
Thank you for your feedback, Ang! We will work hard to improve the visibility going forward!
