What I like about your videos Kirsten, is that you are precise. Some videos on RUclips just shows you the directions or instructions and there is no talking or anything....just a long, long silence. For me, it is boring, whereas you, make it exciting to actually knit, with creative techniques, thank you and God bless Studio Knit!..I have learned much from you! wanted to share that with you.

Thanks so much for explaining the concept and the appearance behind the abbreviation. I'm learning to knit and it's important for me to understand the concept of what I'm doing and not just the actual skill. Thank you for completing the picture for me!!

Hello and thanks for this! I am trying to clear up the difference in my mind. In some videos the SSK is made by slipping the first st purlwise and the 2nds K wise. It looks to me like you are slipping them both K wise. Does that make a difference? I can't see in my mind how if we slip the SSK stitches both K wise, that could be any different from knitting them both together. I am sure i am missing something simple. thanks for your video and any extra help you could provide. Regards, Peter from Paris.

Thank you for sharing the difference btw the two sts ♥️.
My question is as follows: the pattern i'm working on (mitts, using circul needles, 20 sts on ea. needle, *k1 p1, repeat) says " decrease 6 sts evenly around last round - 34 sts in total in rnd". How do I do this? Should I use k2tog? ie k2tog the 1st knit and purl sts, the 8th knit&purl sts and the 14th knit&purl stitch?
Apologies for not relaying it better, i'm new to the knitting world 🙂.
Thank you for reading my question, any help will be greatly appreciated.
It does not specify what type of decrease st to use (nor where, '...evenly')

Thank you for the clear explanation! I am working on a scarf now (and tackling the design), so I'm curious how to make these decreases so they look nice as yours does. I have a question, though. In order to continue that look on the right (knit) side, should I also do an ssp and p2tog on the purl side? Does the same apply? Would the ssp be on the back side of the ssk? Thanks!

Hello!! Thank you for the explanation!! I have a question. I have a German pattern with the symbol 2> (well, the symbol is a little bigger because number 2 is inside of the >. I have searched in Google and it says it is the same of "K2tog". The problem that I have is there are other symbol with a number 2 inside, is a ^, bigger than the one I have written here, like an arrow head pointing to the sky. I have found it is a "vertical decreasse". I also found a place that says it is a symbol for the P2 together. My question is the P2 together is a vertical decrease???? Thank you!!! Regards from Chile 🤗🙋‍♀️🇨🇱❤️🌼🌹🌸🐈

What about on a purl row!!!
Ssk( knit into the back )
Do I purl move the yarn behind ssk move yarn forwards then purl?
Or p ss ( move yarn back / knit together into the back ) yarn forward P
Some where I read( knitting for dummies on line I think)
That I am supposed to Purl into the back WTblank is that
I have never seen purl into the back???

So if you want to make a mirrored neck line the only way is if you combine these two stitches? What I mean is, there's know way to go both left and right with only one of these stitches (either ssk or k2tog)?

Sure! For Stockinette, the purl side is the "wrong side" which is the back side of the work. The smooth texture is the right side.

if pattern states the following using ssk version
    Dec R1: K1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, K2tog, k1.
    Dec R2: P to end
    Dec R3: K to end
    Dec R4: P to end
Repeat these 4 rows until ?? sts, ending with Dec R2.
Does this mean that you decrease in each row following the pattern for R1, and on the Purl Rows, work the pattern for R1 in reverse please?

I do continental knitting I see the difference with your stitching but my loops on the needle are backwards from yours in other words I go through the back of the loop to create a knit stitch. I can't just do the stitches backwards can I. I mean when the directions say ssk can I k2tog?

When I knit, I always knit through the back loop (the way I was taught years ago), not the front so my slant doesn't come out this way. If I'm going to do the K2TOG in a project must I only knit through the front for the whole project or is there a way to do the K2TOG using the back loop to get the clean slant you show?

Yours appears spaced apart. Should they always be spaced apart or am I reading the following wrong- as it appears they are next to each other when "repeat from star":
    K1, *K2tog, K11, SSK; repeat from * across to last st, K1.

I'm so frustrated! My SSK is not leaning in the way it's supposed to. My K2tog leans the same way my SSK leans. I don't get it. It's driving me nuts. I've watched a dozen videos to see what I'm doing wrong, and I seem to be doing what everybody else is doing. Maybe knitting is just not for me.
