  • “Does Star Trek still matter?” That is the question posed by the magazine Variety about the future of a franchise that has become an institution in science fiction along with pop culture itself. But with many of the newer Trek projects coming to an end, some sooner than originally planned, a lot of longtime supporters of this 50+ year continuous narrative are wondering if things will soon be ending. Well, not according to the people at Paramount who were interviewed for this article, which gives fans a better look at what is in store for them in the coming years. Which includes news about not only Strange New Worlds, but also the new series Starfleet Academy, along with details about as many as three films in some state of production. The largest nugget of information was about one of these films, that being Section 31, with the reveal that a legacy character will be a part of the cast along our first look at the movie. But before I get into all of that I just wanted to thank you for clicking on this video and ask that if you do enjoy it to please hit that like button to help support the channel.

      @WhatDidIMiss  2 месяца назад +5

      I see a lot of people mentioning this in the comments, but this is how I understood the conversation between the Pikes. Younger Pike was transported to the future by the time crystal, but older Pike did not say how he knew when and where to go back to fix his future. My guess is that Section 31 told him what to do and he used the time crystal from the Klingons to do it. But I don't think the time crystal would also tell older Pike what messed up the timeline to begin with. I could be wrong, but when I watched that episode the first thing I thought was, "How did older Pike know that Spock dying was the reason for the Romulan war?"

      He didn't. He kinda alludes to him not being the man to captain the Enterprise going forward, and that he was meant to die and the successor would handle the Romulans (A different kind of captain was needed)...cuz Kirk is ultimately.

    The biggest problem I think trek has in the modern era is that it has become TIME trek instead of STAR trek. I would love something (series or movie) that's just star trek. No time travel, no "explaining" how they are using certain characters. Just make the show and keep it about space travel.

  • @codmanout9861
    @codmanout9861 18 дней назад

    I highly doubt that Section 31 will deal with multiple time jumping. The whole reason for sending Georgiou back was because her body was out of temporal sync, so she would need to stay in a stable time period. And it would violate the Temporal Accords. Now that doesn't mean that she couldn't have a hand in influencing important events in the time period where she landed, in fact, she wouldn't be Georgiou if she didn't, but in my opinion, no further time travel will likely happen, as it could exacerbate her temporal dysfunction.
    Edit: To clarify, yes, Georgiou was sent back in time to remedy her temporal displacement, but her body still experienced that trauma. For her to then engage in additional temporal maneuvering would be like taking someone who recovered from severe radiation exposure, and then have them go work with that same damaging radiation. Even if they fully recovered at the time, their body would be more susceptible to the strains of additional exposure. Now, sure, Trek could come up with some way to counteract this, but seeing as she was sent back around 1,000 years from a future that couldn't cure her, I kind of doubt there would be a way to make that work. Personally, I think it is far more likely that Georgiou will end up dealing with a series of events that cascade forward, leading events and people down the paths that they need to take.

    • @rjmeeks4152

Kirk and his family). The details of this plot point are revealed in the novel The Good That Men Do (written, as was Last Full Measure, by Andy Mangels and Michael A. Martin).
      In The Good That Men Do, Tucker becomes impatient to do something about the coming Romulan threat to Earth, though Starfleet has ordered Enterprise to return home to bolster the upcoming formation of the Coalition of Planets (a precursor to the United Federation of Planets).
      Tucker's crewmate, Malcolm Reed, puts him in contact with Harris who operates within Section 31. Tucker agrees to an undercover mission into Romulan territory to find and neutralize the Romulans' new warp 7 engine program, which will be faster than almost all other warp drives in existence (at this time the Vulcans had warp 7 capability) and would undoubtedly endanger the Coalition. He is successful, but in the process, he learns that Vulcans and Romulans were once one species. Tucker reluctantly agrees to remain officially "dead", lest this secret become public and thereby endanger the newly formed coalition. Also, the novel suggests that Tucker's extended lifespan is partly due to the genetic engineering he receives to pass as a Romulan.
      In the novel The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm, it is hinted that although Commander Trip Tucker III is officially classified as dead, a small chance existed that he made it out of the escape pod. Resuming his life under an assumed name, he has two children with T'Pol, a son and daughter.

That person was going to die anyways, so taking them out of the timeline wouldn't harm anything. I'd love to see Connor Trinneer come back.

      Well that's why I am surprised when a Trek show makes it to 5 seasons. Netflix already does the 4-5 season limit due to it being financially convenient for them. The other big studios clearly didn't know what they were doing and just wanted to cash in during and after COVID. I loathe the 8 episode offerings, with 2-3 on average being the length of a 30 min sitcom. Then altering the story, particularly with Marvel stuff to explain away the absence of other heroes, when you know it's just due to cost. The only medium I've seen that benefited from seasonal offerings imo has been the anime sphere, which has led to movie quality v pokemon quality quick animation. Even the part 1 and 2 offerings aren't so bad, but it takes away from the watercooler discussions we're used to with the hiatuses seeming longer as a result.

    The Emperor could had cloned herself&do a memory dump. As for future Pike, I'm surprised Temporal Investigations haven't shown up yet. Remember that Kirk is a serial violator of the timeline while he was the captain of the Enterprise. So the Aegis should had sent Gary7 to make sure the timeline isn't messed up too much. Most of the post WWIII Aegis' temporal incursions was done by Roberta Lincoln to ensure that the Federation is created. So Wesley Crusher showing up before the Eugenics War or WWIII could be possible as long as Roberta Lincoln does her job in making sure that Zefram Cochrane meets with Picard's crew.

    The KT were good films its a shame Disco is wrapping up I personally liked the outer skimming of the ST theme and SNW is also vey good. Its a bit late but agree there could be 1 more KT film but is there really any point unless theres a time travel alt unvierse with well it could only be SNW now but thats been done to death its possibly best to leave th KT were it is as a pike kirk kirk pike spock thing is too confusing even to write. S31 is a viable option for a film I dont think theres enough meat on the bone for a series as said it would have to copy other sci fi programs to make it work.

    Why not do a series regarding Nog becoming a captain? Or show him already as a captain? Yes the actor has past but has that stop Star Trek before? I feel there are some better potential stories that can be told series wise. Nobody wants to see a movie about section 31. Should be a series. ( nobody meaning me. I can only speak for myself lol) I’m in the minority but I actually liked discovery. I like strange new worlds also. I don’t like some the corny episodes they make though. Like musical episode was weird. Stick to story. You want comedy bring back the Ferengi for that. Give us more back story about the breen. So many things to look at and tell about.

    Arghhhh!!!! Why oh why oh why do we keep going backward! Star Trek is about looking forwards! The Original Series was done in the 60's, 20 years later we move in to The Next Generation, Then Deep Space 9 and Voyager, each one its later, things progress, I know Discovery did a dystopian leap but just go post Voyager, give us new tach, more hope and a continuing narrative that does not have to trip over past told stories - its not hard!

    Ah, spies, intrigue, betrayal, skullduggery -- yep, that's what the original Star Trek was all about...NOT. Section 31 looks like a series that appears to be capitalizing on the Star Trek name, and the little we've seen of it in other series supports this. Paramount has no interest in the essence of what made ST great; it only wants to profit from the name. Strange New Worlds shows the greatest promise in decades for maintaining the original flavor and purpose of Star Trek, but nonsense scripts that can't maintain a logical plot thread seem destined to kill it. Still, I hope it's a success, since it's about the only Star Trek with the faintest trace of Star Trek left in it.

Strange new worlds in contrast is fantastic good stories well acted outstanding support cast. The main reason is one wanders off into the usual stupid American ‘let’s have a war’ theme and the other is gene’s let’s see what’s out there mantra much more challenging and interesting
