to enable that command, go to;
File menu - options - customize Ribbon - choose command from - commands not in the ribbon - scroll down & find ' combine shape' - select that command and 'add' - ok

This happened to me too and I worked out I needed to make the animated path just a little longer than suggested. Mine is now around a dash and a half's worth and it's much smoother. You may need to experiment to get it right.
