Lately, it’s a combination of the Audioscape 260VU and my CAPI SumBus - the 260 delivers that 160 splat on a snare with aplomb, and the CAPI is an incredibly nice sounding mixer that delivers on that big 70s API console mojo (so many transformers!)
Actually, I'm pretty much ITB and the gear I want is more oriented to controller, which is not exactly gear, or some guitare amp or maybe a preamp. However, if I can have some gear for "fun" I would love a Empirical labs distressor and a 500 series rack with some compressors and saturation. Good video as always. Have a good day and have fun at NAMM
I remember you using the API and Neve consoles at Swinghouse all them years ago. I love using my API "The Channel Strip", it has the 512c pre, 527 comp, 550a eq. (I'd like to have a stereo pair at some point) But right now my eyes are on a Heritage Audio Successor Bus Comp.
The pitch correction on the vocal is SPOT fricking ON! It's the kind of way of vocal tuning I like. It fixes the minor mistakes and out of tune spots but it's not killing the feel of the singing making it sound plasticky. Great job! Personally, to be 100% honest, I sometimes have to touch up my guest vocalists just to make their vocals sit in the song better. I want to reduce situations where I have to to overpolish a bad take with an artificial sounding result though. I've never been a huge fan of that "uncanny valley" vocal sound that sits between fully natural and overthetop T-Pain.
I adore the API-2500 plugin and use it on every track. A producer told me to try the slowest attack and fastest release, and I can't get enough of the effect. Amazing cover and breakdown - thank you, gentlemen!
Great video. Would have been nice to see the next chapter: Mastering Rock with Hardware Studio Gear with Warren Huart & Mike Arango. I will download the Multitracks for sure to mix the song. Can I borrow that mixer😄? I'm almost completely in the box. Thanks Warren, you do always produce pro video's. Produce Like a Pro should be change to: A Pro Producer 🎼🎵🎶🎸 Thanks to Mike Arango too. The tracking session was great to watch.
Thank you for having a video of mixing with HARDWARE as it is so refreshing. One of my favorites is the API 2500 and the 1073 BAE version. I have my eyes on the Teletronix.
Thanks Warren and Mike (and Eric) this was fun. I'm wondering what the audio feed was for this video; it sounded really good. That 2500+ is wonderful!!
can't wait to mess around with 1 of my older sessions and my emulations. Drums were 4 tracks and I've always struggled to get the extra definition out of toms without mics on them, especially since I was heavy on cymbals at the time. any tips for compressing / EQing an overhead track in that situation? got both SSL and API emulations as well as DBX stuff
What I would do is duplicate the ohd track and separate the toms, putting fades on the sustain and even eqing the high out and cross fading back into the main tom hits. Then blamed it with the unaltered tracks
As a fellow beginner, I sympathize. It can be really tough to get enough of the drums out of overheads. IMO, they're great for adding top end to the snare, some room sound for the kick, and a bit of glue to round off the edges of the close mics -- but otherwise I treat them as cymbal mics. I don't envy the effort it'll take to bring the toms out -- it seems cymbals are always there, and always louder. One thing I've learned from downloading PLAP's multitracks: I really need to work on engineering skills. When you've got good source tracks, the mix practically falls into place by itself. Just finding out where my weak spots are has been really helpful.
I can't see any reason to use hardware gear these days, except for drums. The rest can be profitably recorded directly into an interface. Drums are still the one part where a live drummer is infinitely better than any drum simulation, such as EZDrummer. I record easily all of my stuff through a DAW directly into that DAW using an interface. But drums...
What's some of your favourite studio gear or what do you have your eyes set on?

That can be quite useful! It depends on what sources you use it on. Slower attack will definitely exaggerate the peaks, the transients
Really enjoyed this series. Great black and white camera angle. Rock On !
Thanks ever so much! Glad you enjoyed it
Wow! Mike can really sing. This song sounds absolutely great. Well played and mixed, seriously! Thanks Warren, as usual. Happy belated Eric!
Thanks for listening! Yes, we love Mike!
Mike is my main man at Sweetwater! Good to see you guys working together.
That’s very cool! Thanks ever so much
That snare is awesome!!!
Thanks ever so much
More of these, I have more gear and I love to see it being used. I know it's hip using IRs and Reaper etc.... but I love the real hardware
Amen!!!
Thanks ever so much! Really glad you enjoyed the video!
@@PurpleMusicProductions amen indeed!
Love watching Warren mix. Really would like to watch him produce sometime!
I've done that too! Thanks Joe!
@@Producelikeapro hi Warren, how’s the new studio working out? Did you keep the spitfire name, or is it under a new name?
Terrific!!! That was great to watch. Thanks very much.
Thanks ever so much
Absolut geil! Danke Warren!
Vielen Dank Bob!
this sounds great
Thanks ever so much
Niiiiiiice!! Always great to learn from you! Thanks for everything you do!!!
Thanks ever so much
Damn this song reminds me of "The Adventures of The Galaxy Rangers" TV series intro. Takes me way back! Great video!
Soooo much great advice in this episode. I think I watched it at least 10 times, so far 😉!
To be honest, I think I liked the mix more before the API 2500. I do agree that it sounded better on the normal setting with the soft knee though.
Thanks ever so much for sharing

Will you be at Namm this week? I would love to meet you!
Yes! I will be there every day!
Warrant Huart Any new mixing contest I love mixing contests 🏆 🏁
A production course coming!!
Man all the sounds Api and all those icon red and blue and grey knobs on that side car rack on warrens left turns me on
Love the move on the guitars , where do you have them panned ?

I find spending time on automation of the toms can be very helpful.

What’s that loud hf hum in the video?
They may not look Rock 'n Roll but this song absolutely is.
Thanks ever so much!
when Warren turns the controls, the sun rises here on my monitors
the hum stops briefly at 9:09
Haha thanks Andre!

Yes, with great ears you can do anything!
😅i like a "papery" snare bottom
Happy Birthday Eric, sounds great excellent vocal please don't tune them.
Haha thanks ever so much
Hi bro do you do also vids about cubase? When is Namm gear and news are uploaded?
Somebody turn their bloody phone off!
This whole time i was yelling, is someone gonna tune the vocals?!?!
Really flat and lifeless mix. Can't really hear anything other than the hats. Needs some color and chunk.
Excited to hear your mix!
