it seems as if the snipers have "hit-scan" attack, which would mean that their projectile hits the target as soon as they shoot. If this is the case, it'd explain why everyone targets someone else (assuming one shot kills the targets)

@@cncHD I see there is a released mod version called Generals Evolution which has very impressive graphic but its gameplay is based on Red Alert 3 engine. Have you heard of it and you should try for once as many players are connected and able to play online.

Hi all!
I am a C&C Generals Zero Hour player since 2007. I've just discovered something new. I would like to write something about the lag problem in Zero Hour that has caused many people to stop playing.
Zero hour v1.0 doesn't have any lag issue. Even in the Twilight flame map, you can play against 7 hard ai without any lag. (As in base game Generals v1.08)
Also, path finding is way better on v1.0. For example, cliffs on maps don't matter in v1.0. The CPU doesn't gather vehicles at the edges of the cliffs. The units follow the path as they should. But path finding bug exits in v1.01, v1.02 , v1.03 and v1.04
There is also a massive memory leak bug in v1.01, v1.02 , v1.03 and v1.04.
The reason for these errors is the game.dat file.
1.01, 1.02, 1.03 and 1.04 patches are official and released by EA. In short, although EA fixed a few bugs in Zero Hour with the patches, also these patches greatly damaged the game in terms of game performance and path finding.
By comparing the "game.dat version 1.0" file with the "game.dat version 1.04" files, this error causing memory leak can be detected. As far as I know, the programming language of .dat files is Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. We can also use Hex editor or something.
Someones should compare the 1.0 and 1.04 versions of the game.dat file and identify the differences. Then, version 1.04 of game.dat file should be fixed. (programming skills are required for this)
NOTE:
There are both v1.0 and v1.04 files in the archive. When you want to switch to v1.0, copy the v1.0 files to the ZH folder. Likewise, when you want to switch to v1.04, copy the v1.04 files to the ZH folder. (This is a manual method for switching between versions. You don't need any installation)
Don't look at "Options" in the menu. The version written there is determined by the registry.
You can test this yourself. Please play against 7 hard ai in twilight flame map in v1.0. (I repeat, the twilight flame map is an example used when testing. I think this is the most suitable map for use in testing because it is the most problematic map). You will understand what I mean.

I already did "setting permissions of Replays folder" method but it never offered smooth gameplay like v1.0. As I said, the main cause of the problem is the "game.dat" file.
Interesting. But i moved from playing C&C Generals to Beyond All Reason in which you can more easily address problem to devs or fix it on by themself (it's open-source game).
The laser Humvees benefits greatly from the scout drone. Even though they're slow af, the scout drone extends the range so much that they can sit at the back and shoot down almost all incoming missiles. Also works great for sweeping.

Pathfinders were truly op. They could one-shot-one-kill an infantry, and their reload isn't that slow. A platoon of pathfinders in a humvee or a chinook against a massive enemy infantry was always so satisfying to watch.

How I'd love to have a remake or enhanced version of this game! The game suffer badly from FPS lag whenever there's too many enemies on a map and can get very slow.
The game is good, but it has flaws. 1_There is no naval combat 2_ Soviet Union (Russia) Not Found 3_ The United States does not have a nuclear weapon 4_ Airplanes are one of the weakest types of air defense If they had added these things, the game would have been much better

I load em with 1 sniper, 7 missles, and put at least 8-10 of them in a group so they shoot down every missle that comes near any of them lol

I love this game so much, probably the sickest PC game I ever played. Literally played for like 14hrs straight all night on the weekends and mastered it to the point that the game was nothing against me me no matter what. On my dying hours I'll think about this game for a bit 😜

Nice video! I've done this a few times. Personal favourite method is to rush the shit out of the closest 3 as pretty much the first course of action with a couple of rock-vs. It's easy to outmanouevre the ai and *just about* stop them getting the oil in the centre with rangers. Big fan of using SWG because you can out-SW all the remaining AI and create some amazing firework displays with Aurora alphas!

2022 and I still play this game.... Good job bro, now try doing that against China tank general! Whole different strategy. Usually I like playing against China Infantry while using GLA Toxin, it's more fun lol.
As much as i enjoyed this nostalgia, i really wanted to see much more aircraft action. My fav tactic is getting colonel burton to detonate all power plants to power down enemy base and then rushing raptors bombers for a clean sweep w minimal casualties. Ah good memories when i managed to pull it off

Excellent gameplay, but watching these so many years later makes me think to myself: Does this game EVER *not* chug to a crawl when anything actually happens?
So much as a handful of units start exchanging attacks and the game begins its painful metamorphosis into a slideshow.
Once did a lan party as this guys 8 person free for all. won so hard that second round it was 7 vs me...still won :| mainly because those other 7 never did a PVP game before and did not know how to handle overuse of static defenses and airpower xD
There's an AI mod you can download. It makes the AI much harder, especially the airforce general.
You should take on 7 of those at once.

я 8 лет назад играл в какую то другую весию C&C Zero Hour, у меня даже средние по сложности ИИ пехотного генерала китая активно строили самоходки гатлингов и адские пушки артилерию, и вокруг баз всегда оставлял на защите зенитные системы так что свободно летать аврорами вообще нельзя и в лучше случае одна из 4 прилетает обратно.
My recommendation for a video;
No aircraft (Jets/helicopters)
No Nukes
Land vehicles only
No speed running (you have to give your opponent at least 20 minutes to build up)
That way you aren’t just rushing for nukes to kill your opponent before they can become powerful. It’d be interesting to watch a full blown war of like 80 tanks rolling in on your opponent.
The problem with that plan is that the AI just constantly sends shit at you, they rarely bunch up
You're gonna get several stupid 5 tanks, 4 anti air and a couple artilleries at you coming piecemeal
Base defenses will halt their thrust while your land vehicles mop up the artillery

I played more then 15.000 online Matches with Generals ZH, the best RTS ever. Sometimes if i am borring i make some CPU Matches until today
I remember playing this game. Kept me entertained for hrs. Accept I had NPC teammate. We wiped the floor w/them or if for some reason. My teammate was defeated. I made them pay for it. By overwhelming them w/super weapons&superior firepower.

BTW my favorite tactic is using loading up Chinooks with rocket men and riflemen and using them as mobile pillboxes. Er i mean snipers and rocket men.
Done similar before.
I dropped off snipers to parts of the map, and no enemies make it near the base after.
AI isn't good at going left or right to go look for them.
And if they do get 1 or 2, I had them spammed everywhere lol.
Bunker, base defenses for vehicles snipers for the rest.
Aurora spam like crazy.
That is why I need to wait for Generals Remastered for better AI's.
