Reinforced Concrete Structures, by Robert Park and Thomas Paulay is a must read for reinforced concrete essentials imo. Great video! Greetings from Venezuela.
@@MatPicardal Hmm maybe if you went into detail how the collaboration effort occurs and how you coordinate work with the architect, emphasizing that relationship between the two and giving behind the scenes access
Mat, I picked up your recommendation of "Reinforced Concrete Mechanics and Design" from Amazon. AWESOME. I am not an engineer but an aspiring Structural drafter. THANKS
MacGregor & Wight is the best book for having a reference of concrete design. Moehle is the best to understand seismic detailing. Good video! Greetings from Peru!

Can you please recommend some books related to bridge design and load ratings ? And if possible for the building sector can you please make an episode related which chapters of code like asce and ibc are really necessary
I'm really interested in that first book that you recommended (Reinforced Concrete: Mechanics and Design, MacGregor & Wight) but I can't seem to find any SI version of it.
Hi, can you suggest the best book for Diaphragm design? I am a Structural EIT in Canada, primarily working in mid-rise building design. I want to improve my knowledge of Diaphragm chord and collector analysis. Thank you in advance
Mat, what do you think of Mcgregor's or Wight's Reinforced Concrete book? I have found it to be much more useful than McCormac's because they go more in-depth on most of the subjects. I definitely agree with your mention of Moehle's book.
Hi Mat the first book has a lot of mistakes ! first of all the value for the factor or v/s correction not right the Superscript shall be above the expositional not on the 1.2 the example 3-2 the area of the top of wall shall be 24 ft x 16 in not 24ft x 1.5 ft and a lot of mistakes shall not be there even these mistakes was found in the 7th and 8th edition I emailed Dr James but no response from his side ! please confirm these mistakes maybe I am wrong Thanks in advance
It would be nice if you may emphasize various codes used for structural design such as ACI, ECP, .... also do you have to prepare your own excel sheets for each code or is there a way to facilitate the design process using any design code?
Hi Matt , thanks for sharing yo. Really helpful. I do have one doubt though...I be starting my work as a structural engineer and I was told that I be doing some steel structure work. Any advice on my first day and maybe some recommendations of books for steel ? Thanks Matt. =)
Hi Mat, should I buy the latest edition of Reinforced Concrete: Mechanics and Design or is the 4th edition enough? I heard that there is new information in the latest edition (more practical examples?), but the paper and binding quality is bad, they don't have it in SI units either. Thank you!

Hi I am a first year civil engineering major at UCLA what would you recommend I learn outside of school, like software and things such. Also should I look into getting a front desk job at a construction or engineering firm?
Get an internship in engineering and/or construction as your priority, even if you are just a first year. That's one of the best ways to land a position after you graduate. If you have trouble landing an internship, get involved with your engineering organizations and/or competitions. Show that you can hold and be successful in leadership positions to build up your resume.
Mostly missing out on seismic and non-linear performance based design. You could always learn through professional development courses, but it would take time obviously.

I think it's being used more and more for medium to large scale projects, but won't really be used for small projects though (small residences, tenant improvements). At least in my opinion.
Economic Concrete Frame Elements to Eurocode 2 and other books by the concrete centre are really good. You should try some of those. You can also try John Bungey, Ray Hulse Bill Mosley - Reinforced Concrete Design to Eurocode 2-Palgrave MacMillan. For EC8 i.e seismic design, Seismic Design of Concrete Buildings to Eurocode 8 Michael N. Fardis, Eduardo C. Carvalho, Peter Fajfar, and Alain Pecker is really good, explains a lot of theories really well but it specifically explains the clauses in the code.
