    I got to borrow one for the weekend. I was very impressed!!! It blew away my brothers 17 Dyna Low Rider S with the Stage 4 117 kit...I mean it wasn't even close folks! He said by the time he was ready to shift into second gear, I was already 90-100 feet ahead of him. ICE bikes don't have a chance in competing. The bike was only at 80% factory set power, meaning I didn't even adjust the the custom mode to get 100% out of it. The bike will put a stupid grin on your face days after you get done riding.

    Thanks for this video. The Livewire is truly an amazing bike and I can't wait to try one. I think we're going to see this technology at a significantly lower price point before we even know it. I don't think I'd be able to have this thing as my only bike- (as it is I'm in the wormhole of figuring out how to get an FXDR tank on my 2019 124" Street Bob. I really wish my bike had a little more range) but still the performance of this thing is amazing and it looks great. Everyone I've talked to says its the fastest, best handling Harley ever- and possibly the fastest, best handling "standard" anyone is offering right now. The bike looks like it'd outrun an Aprilia Tuono which is amazing. $30k is stupid expensive- but it's cheaper than the new top of the line Ducati V4 Streetfighter will be I bet!

    Good to know Harley is thinking of the future.
    I just recently own a new Fat Boy after great consideration. Had to determine wether to spend a lot of money on a Ducati Panigale or a Harley Davidson Softail. I spend a lot of years on naked semi sportbikes.
    But the years begin to count and I noticed that when having a fast bike no matter what age (how old) you are, they always invite to go fast.
    So I had to decide do I want to keep going fast? Or do I want a relaxed ride, enjoying the ride, the motorcycle and the scenery with the typical 2 cilinder big bore exhaust note in the back. This has always been somewhat of a dilemma for me, fast or relaxed? But then I always ended up buying the fast bike.
    But I finally purchased my first Harley Davidson, the 2019 Fat Boy, and I have no regrets except for why I didn't get one sooner.
    I don't think the Livewire will give me that relaxed feeling and ride because of the sporty shape, the high pitch engine sound, the acceleration. For the price I would buy another Softail a de Luxe or Lowrider S.
    Good that Harley is thinking of the future and younger generation but please don't ever let go of the typical Harley design, sound and feel.

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the comment. Always good to hear people’s progression. I have the same problem. When I jump on a Sport bike I can’t have fun unless I’m doing 100MPH. On a Harley you can have fun without doubling the speed limit.

  • @gavranarh
    @gavranarh 5 лет назад +1

    Hey Matt, when editing video, don't force cuts to align exactly with the music (sync cut) with such rapidity. Doing it every once in a while is ok but so many of them with such a short interval is a strain in the viewer as it forces the brain to "orient" itself, to discern what the image is, what's going on, only to be forced again into the process even before you fully get your bearing and again and again. It's cool what you're attempting but there is more finesse to it and the bottom line is it shouldn't feel abrupt and contrived, which it does at the beginning of your video. Just a head's up.

    Great comments. Good news for us riders Harley-Davidson doing their best to get the younger riders involved, but the Article I read in a business newspaper article was Early signs are no interest in this livewire from younger folks the percentage of orders are from the older generation. Forget about the price,way too much money but what is scary is the age bracket that are buying and it isn’t the younger generation

      I’ve read a couple of those articles and it’s impossible to come to any conclusion at this point when the bike just shipped a week ago. Awesome, you don't have to pay for gas. But you can also just buy a 7K naked bike. Spend the odd $200 per year in maintenance. And maybe $20 per week in fuel (if you ride a ton). It would take nearly 20 years of riding before you started 'saving' money on gas/maintenance with this as opposed to a normal bike.
    Price point should be 10-12K. Not 30K.

    If Harley wants new riders, then keep up the ads & commercials. Biggest point to bring to the attention of non-riders is LEARNING HOW TO RIDE! I come across people all the time that are interested, think riding & motorcycles are cool but don't know how to ride one. Emphasis on the fact that many Harley dealerships offer riding courses. Sell that and I will guarantee you it will drive up bike sales whether gas or electric.

      I agree. Motorcycles sells across the board are declining because less people are learning to ride at a young age. Among other reasons.

    So I would think that an electric bagger would be awesome and it should create more space for more batteries thus extending the range . Need to get 250-300 miles range .

    Honestly and truly, the cost of those accessories is insane.
    I have some very "well to do" friends who are going to buy a Live Wire,and they feel insulted by what the company is asking for those extras.Those who actually "know" what they cost say it shows hubris to show off and throw all those unnecessary expensive parts on there.

    LiveWire is old news. H-D needs the mid-range EV line up ASAP. Its make or break time. Watch the Tokyo Motor Show Oct 24th as Yamaha introduces a series of innovative "EV's for mobility" products designed specifically for urban transportation. Even a module that converts a standard wheelchair to a full control EV. The Motor Company needs to learn how to play as a technology company to capture the EV market. And, yes, carbon fiber is the future.

    Personally I am mystified by them...I don’t get it...but I also see that HD did the right thing entering this market...by watching the upstarts to see what they came up with.....that defines the potential for this type thing. Then HD applies their experience at mass production and produces a workable bike that is actually built to ride. And boutique bikes that are hand built may be fine for the snooty types....a reliable well made bike that is also splendidly styled is the way to go.....and as to the cost, well maybe Tesla had the right idea....build a big fancy things first and feel out the market...then build bread and butter bikes that we can actually afford....like maybe an addition to the Street series....500cc 750cc......and 50kw!

    In my humble opinion the Motor Company missed the mark by releasing a high end Livewire and its 29K price to the general public. Had they had an entry level version for half the price and a mid grade level one they would have received more positive feedback from their customers. Instead they went STRAIGHT to the top end model with an off the chart pricetag of which scared everyone away from ever even looking at it. Poor business practice Harley Davidson. Hopefully you can learn from your mistake.

      We didn't get one yet but we should be very soon. There was a shipping delay to make sure there was no issues with the charging system. There was an isolated issue with one bike.

    First thing I asked myself is "Does the fairing come off?" In the video I see it does but there's a little frame left. I wonder if that comes off too and if it looks good. I love E-bikes and Harley and I love the sound, but I'm sorry to see it's not more of a cruiser. Feet high, knees bent, your weight on the handlebars... :-(

      It's actually pretty upright. Once you are riding it you have very little weight on the handlebars.

    I'm sure, as time progresses this will end the way of Buell, HD need to make bikes for the millennials but this I think is a step too far. Honda,Suzuki and Yamaha can predict the future better, because from concept to launch is less than a year, and they are all working on Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, which let's face it, will be the way forward. 350 mile range, instant refuel, as with a petrol or diesel, and no battery degradation to deal with the same performance right through from day 1. I don't know about the US but in the UK we are already having problems with grid supplying the few cars we already have, theres not enough electricity being generated to power transport, lighting and now they are talking going over to electric central heating!!! The infrastructure can't support the demand. Transport will have to use something other than electricity.
