Great reaction, and this is an amazing song and band. This is a concept album inspired by the novel "Lunar Park" by Bret Easton Ellis, is a mock auto biography, in the novel the main character has a son. The album is partly from the view point of the son, being a kid in the modern world, medicated, ADHD, depression, inconsequential, trying to find your place. The whole album is fantastic and they played it all in that concert (which is not the same as the Arriving Somewhere, that was Chicago). I'd recommend the song Way Out of Here from this same concert.
I found this band while searching for Gavin Harrison (drums) videos. It's not a coincidence that the only two members Steven Wilson brought back are Richard Barbieri (keys) and the aforementioned Gavin Harrison. I agree that with Steven Wilson's writing, composition and producing; those two are essential to the sound of this band. I'd live to see you react to their new song Harridan or my favorite Gavin Harrison showcase piece, Cheating the Polygraph, live from Tilburg.
The lead singer of Porcupine Tree is actually really good friends with the lead singer of Opeth and they collaborate in their music occasionally. The really jazzy guitar solo at 8 minutes 43 seconds of Arriving Somewhere But Not Here was a guitar solo that Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) created for the song. Really cool stuff. And Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) produced a few of Opeth's albums and sang in some songs as well as contributed the lyrics to Death Whispered A Lullaby from Opeth's album Damnation (No growling at all on that album).
just saw them 3rd time on 9/16/22 in radio city NYC...revived my passion for this Band and this has confirmed my belief that Anesthetize is their greatest song...thats saying much considering their catalog of fucking amazing music. Good job brother.
You seem to be quite interested in their guitars so you may find this interesting. John Wesley (who did the first solo and backing vocals) was playing a red single-cut PRS at the end of the song, this guitar is actually quite special in the fact that it was the first guitar from PRS with a piezo pickup in a tremelo bridge, in fact it has the original prototype of the system which is now used on other models. There is a video on the PRS channel where John explains the story behind it more.
That's dope, I really dig the piezo stuff. Though I never played one myself, I thought about getting one when narrowing down my current PRS but it was outside my price range. I'll look for the video you're talking about 👌🏽
Great reaction, made me push the subscribe button :) The guitar solo on this track, from the album fear of a blank planet, was originally played by Alex Lifeson from rush and it still remains one of my favorite Porcupine Tree albums of all time. fun fact this concert was recorded in Tilburg in the Netherlands for a live DVD the band released after the tour, I was present that day and it was one of their best shows I ve seen.
I would love u reacting to Steven Wilson song of the unborn ... Nobody reacts to that moody peace for art. Not a complex song, but melody and mood, is very pink Floyd ish 👌🏼
There are many "reaction to" channels that have covered a wide variety of music, and many have covered PT. It is always telling that instead of constant, or at least regular interruptions, so many host listeners get swept away the PT songs, and only stop once or twice in a 18 minute song.
Great reaction - very thoughtful. I think you were getting there with the lyrics - it's also about being numbified through drugs and depression, where nothing has value. The final section gives a possible reason for this state of mind. Have enjoyed your PT reactions - will slap the subscribe! :-)
18:02 - You could check out that middle part drum cam from ... Modern Drummer ... 2009 (if I remember correctly. It really shows Gavin's magic. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/6suv3mraIhw/видео.html - perhaps at some point later as an "extra"? ;D Also more great PT live, Hatesong (from Chicago 2005): ruclips.net/video/O5nAA_QXBPY/видео.html
You should listen to the video "Devin Townsend Project - live at the Royal Albert Hall 2015 - Funeral, Bastard and Death of Music". Devin is one of the most talented metal artist in history ! And his screams are legendary and can also sing operatically, wich is UNHEARD of ! He is also one of the VERY FEW artists that sound better live than in his albums , wich is awesome !! If you're in doubd check compilation videos about people reacting to him and watch the faces

Not a screaming lover but enjoy heavy ....hmmm. Riverside : Second Life Syndrome. Poland's finest and friends of Mr.Wilson . Try out the DVD live video if you're interested. I'm just as obsessed with them as I am PT. Hard to find a bad track in thier catalogue, just like PT but they're different.
The album concept was largely about youth issues - drug use, no future etc. SW actually seemed to care, and saw the suffering of the youth of today - or 2008. It's funny his sort of predictions came true.
10:40 After ~7 minutes into the song, you still haven't noticed that there is a keyboarder that might play this strange little sound pattern? And making other "noises" with his instruments as well?
@@samuraikaito FYI: ruclips.net/video/73melfYpbvU/видео.html However, whether you consider that preparing and triggering sequences or using loops in a live setup is (or isn't) "playing", is up to you. Some people even claim that playing an "electric" instrument isn't music.
the guitar riff that no one played is really the back track. The same sample is used in the song What Happens Now? from the same concert. I also highly recommend.
I need to find someone that looks at me the same way the keyboardist looks at the drummer, when he owns the chops. XD
Hahaha, the two MVP's imo!
@@samuraikaito true that!

This song is better than some bands entire careers

This video just never gets old. Ever. There's always something new to hear/find. Thanks for the reaction. Enjoy.
Wow!
Just discovered Porcupine Tree.
Awesome.
Great reaction.
Best song of this epic live concert.

gotta love it when people do the stank face to porcupine tree. gavin harrison is a beast mode drummer lol.
No doubt!
I would go with God-Mode drummer!
Can't fricking wait to see this phenomenal band in London in December. Nice reaction BTW, subscribed! 👌
Welcome aboard! & I'm sure that concert will be incredible 🔥
Omg drummer hit perfectly wow
Loved your analysis of the keyboardist, haven't heard other reaction channels mention much about his brilliance! Best band ever
He deserves his flowers!

Opening with some Zimmer on piano is unexpected and amazing. 🤘
Glad you enjoyed!
richard Barbieri is the keyboard player and as known more for " soundscaping and runs various sounds and effects as well

I’ve listened to this version if the song so much that I have now memorized most of Gavin’s nuanced drum embellishments
I can only listen to this version the studio record doesn't cut the mustard anymore
Nice reaction dude! One of my favorite bands ever.
React to "Riverside - Second life syndrome". Its a similar vibe and the live version its gold too.

Notice that bassist Colin Edwin uses a different bass in each section of the song (3 in all)
