  • Lead sulfate buildup on the plates of a battery is simply a chemical process that happens when a battery is discharged (using up its energy). To remove lead sulfate a battery needs to be charged. If not charged in a timely manner the lead sulfate may crystallize permanently damaging the battery.

    I'm pretty sure the electrons flow out of the Positive terminal and return through the Negative terminal.... ...Ground is connected to the negative terminal and ground is always the return path... ....except on reversed ground systems, and those systems are notorious for being problematic....
    EDIT: After a quick refresher via an internet search, Current flows from Positive to Negative, but the electrons actually move in the opposite direction of the current flow. So we're both right.... But the positive terminal is the dangerous one with more potential and the Negative is the ground that is the return path for the current....

    You still never fully explained how to get rid of sulfates

      The Sulfate is made up of the lead and Sulfuric acid, so you're getting rid of the key components of the battery. But, near the end of the life of the battery, the sulfate builds up and creates all sorts of problems that make the battery weaker and unreliable, even unusable. So getting rid of the sulfates can return some life the battery, but it doesn't really rejuvenate it, its just gets what's left working again.
