I'm a huge John Powell fan and this movie came on the other day and when it got to this part I knew I had to do a transcription of it for you guys.
If you like it or want more leave a comment (I know y'all love trolling my comment section) and like the video so the algorithm picks it up, or if you have a specific solo in mind leave that in the comments!

Seriously John Powell did not have to go this hard for a score about an elephant talking to a flower. But he did, he did it for us
Elephant talking to a flower? Chickens escaping a farm? Dancing Penguin? he's got it 😂
John Powell goes hard on literally every project he composes for
Oh, Powell is in this one! After HTTYD, I feel like I need more of this guy.
Powell is genius but I can’t get over how amazing HTTYD is. Masterpiece.
he’s my favorite composer exactly for these reasons. he doesn’t miss
One reason I think John Powell is he best composer in the industry is how seriously he takes animation.
Most composers just make some random orchestral underscore, but Powell (like Hans Zimmer, his mentor) actually writes music. Awesome music to be exact.
Powell, Giacchino, Desplat, Williams. The four horsemen of osts
bro never watched across the spiderverse
@@poopypoop1477 Does "most" mean "all" in your mind?
@@poopypoop1477bro never developed reading comprehension

No wonder this part always made me emotional as a kid, it's genuinely devastating.
"as a kid"
@@phillustrator I'm tearing up. That elephant just wanted to save those little who's, man 😢
Pretty sure the music can make anyone attached to these silly party wieners
@@rustyshackleford83and the freaking jungle wanna freaking shut anyone who thinks like Horton... Everyone at the end freaking tries killing all Whoville themselves in front of the elephant! Ugh 😩😭
The "you are gonna need this" pause is the actual most epic part in this music sheet 😂😂😂
The horns kicking in right when Horton is staring down the Vulture is honestly menacing as fuck like they had no reason to add that bloodshot effect it makes it look like he’s ready to break his neck
Forreal, and the voice-acting goes hard, too
This is obviously inspired by Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western soundtracks, it's nice hearing that style performed and composed with modern methods
That's exactly what I noticed! No shame there, just a recognition of style.
Absolutely, my first impression, too.
Also the style of the eyeball closeups right before the buzzard drops the flower.
Exactly, one of the best trumpet pieces is in this masterpiece ruclips.net/video/OiIe2znA1ao/видео.html But this wasn't bad either. Greetings from The Netherlands.
Yeah
This was the first orchestral score I ever appreciated as a kid. The way the music climaxes at the reveal of the vast clover field is still a top moment in animated film for me
you haven't seen very many movies.....have ya!!
Agreed, this one was a good song, this and a good few other movies I’ve seen had some good orchestral performances.
There's probably an entire list of really good melodies that John Powell wrote that are lost to time, because of low critic reception or that they are used in animation that are garnered towards younger audiences.
i 100% agree
Yeah that's why I never knew about them as well.
same vibes as hans zimmer working on boss baby lmao
@@ookieososes WAIT REALLY???
@@johnlime1469 YES LOL listen to upsies i need upsies from the boss baby ost because it sounds so good for some reason
I’m glad the algorithm chose to show me this
Fun fact the guy who played the trumpet actually played a really good solo in Happy Feet during the scene where Mumble and the other penguins slide down the mountain, the soundtrack is called “Bob’s Led” John Powell goes hard for these soundtracks, John Powell composed Happy Feet as well
BRO I REMEMBER THAT THE TRUMPET SOLO HAD A SIMILAR WESTERN FLARE TO IT TOO!! BROOO THAT GUYS A LEGEND
I FOUND IT ON SPOTIFY BRO ITS CALLED “The story of Mumble HappyFeet” around 4mins in!!!
OH MY GOD! These two legends gave me my first music related chills as a kid
John Powell … the man that creates soundtracks for kids movies, and puts his whole brain into it
Like he makes the soundtracks go harder than they should but im all here for it
THEY'RE NOT KIDS MOVIES
@@tizianoferrigno588The hell’s you on about, you’re saying that the Lorax, Shrek, Ice Age (Not including the last one), Rio, HTTYD 1, 2, and 3, and Robots are NOT kid’s movies?!
@@NugNugManNOPE !!!
@@MsHoneyPanda Damn, gotta reconsider some things.
John Powell is easily my favorite composer, he did Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, every score he’s written was incredible
Agreed
He also did the new movie migration
didn't Hans Zimmer do Kung Fu Panda?
@@typo1345first 2 movies were Zimmer and Powell together
Whoever that trumpet player was REALLY went crazy hard!! 🤩
I suspect it was totally sythesized - and IMHO, a unsatisfying, little, tinny, measly, overly bright trumpet sound. Go big or go home.
There are several trumpeters listed, but Wayne Bergeron stands out in the list - my money would be on him.
@@thomassicard3733it’s an actual trumpet, Thomas. They had the budget for a full band
@@bradleymunn8790also, samples (or modelling, like SWAM) can't pull this off this fluidly and convincing.
Rick Baptist apparently. He certainly has the reputation to back it up anyway, been studio recording with Wayne Bergeron and all those top level trumpet players for ages
This scene for some reason always stuck out to me as a kid. When I thought of the movie, it was usually this chase I thought about. This video makes me wonder just how much of that was because of the music. Listening back to it, it’s genuinely epic!
What was the name of this movie?
@@theodornechita7875 the title in the description. I could feel this ligma coming from a mile away.
I forgot how freaking devastating that camera pan at the end was.
Like, the that’s the pain of cleaning your room as a kid multiplied by 10,000
Ahh, yes. The most underrated animated movie ever. This film was an absolute masterpiece.
I remember loving this film. It’s been forever since I’ve seen it, though.
You can say a thing is good without diluting what a masterpiece means.
It was a good movie, let's leave it at that
@@MrToddinostrongly agree, definitely not a masterpiece but I very much enjoy it
@@MrToddinoI disagree. This film was a masterpiece. I played Horton on stage in Seussical the Musical. This movie hit every emotional string for me. 10/10.
Argue about the movie you want, but this soundtrack is underrated af
I love the text above that 15 free bars saying "You are gonna need this." before hitting that high g flat!😂
WE MAKING IT OUTTA WHOVILLE WITH THIS ONE🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🔥🔥
Edit: mom I’m famous

Not the hoodville😂😂😭
no, you're not.
You are delusional, not famous.
The fact that at the 15 bar rest there’s a note that says “you’re gonna need this” kills me
I remember this scene, you could tell Jo-Jo knew that something bad was going to happen because for once he didn’t look at his dad with a look of disappointment but instead of genuine fear.
It was soul destroying for Horton to witness a whole world get fatally wounded before his very eyes.
FINALLY, I’VE WAITED SO LONG FOR RECOGNITION OF HOW MUCH OF A MASTERPIECE MOUNTAIN CHASE IS AND MY DAY HAS COME! VINDICATION!!!
The score for this movie is insane. I will listen to the entire thing top to bottom because it gives me those good music chills. John Powell killed it with this score.
No matter how many times I’ve seen this movie and know how it ends, it never lost its tension.
Now I know why.
1:23
LOVE the bells that chime in. Jesus Christ
Really haunting
horton hears a who but its the extacy of gold
I remember the first time I watched this scene, I was really leaning on the edge and when the trumpets go full blast and the voices went loud I felt a chill down my spine.
Now, I felt it again listening to this again, this chase manages to make me anxious despite the goofy and cartoony way Horton moves, and it's all thanks to the music :)
How he could hit that high e flat with that clear tone... whoa!
You mean the Gb?
THIS IS THE MOVIE I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND FOR SO DAMN LONG
FINALLY!! Someone remembers this movie and how epic this score was!!!
John Powell did a phenomenal job on the score for this movie. I also want to let us bask in the reality of Horton’s dedication to find that one flower among a field covered in millions on millions of the same flower. Imagine if we saw this kind of devotion, today. People going great lengths to do something, especially if it’s for the good of others.
Truly one of the greatest moments in cinematic history. I actually almost teared up just seeing this again.
"You’re gonna need this"😂
The fact that it’s a trumpet solo (sounds like an elephant) astounds me that he’s a human composer
The most underrated and best movie based in a Dr. Seuss book
I love the notation, "You're gonna need this," at the 15 measure rest @ 1:12.
Powell, to me, has gained the ultimate respect with his arrangement of Holding Out for a Hero in Shrek 2. Conveys all the information in the scene with a song and Shrek's main theme while letting the song speak in itself during a visually and dramatically loaded scene.
It’s just a silly movie about an elephant and a flower, you don’t have to do anything crazy
John Powell:
An entire population was ignored and probably would die out without the freaking elephant help
THANK YOU!! I tried sharing the sound track with friends before because of some of the amazing trumpet lines and was never taken seriously. I remember listening to this track multiple times when I first heard it because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Amazing!
What an amazing trumpet player!!
Rick Baptist my friend
this part really did feel epic as a kid. jeez i still get chills when the vulture drops the flowers and the trumpets blare
I’m so glad to see that other people appreciate John Powell’s absolute masterpiece
This movie's soundtrack does not have to got this hard. I don't want to use this word, but this is beyond epic. No joke.
this gave me chills why is this movie so underrated i loved it when i was younger
I love the “You’re going to need this.” in tiny print above the 15 measure rest.
wow...I bet that sound was pretty impressive in a movie theatre.
WHY IS THIS MUSIC SO GOOD 😭
Honestly the soundtrack alone made Horton Hears a Who my favorite Dr. Seuss movies as a kid.
John Powell has always been one of my favourite modern film composers. I love the way he can make a melody or theme flow seamlessly between several instruments and sections. Almost as if the whole orchestra is a single instrument. It honestly baffles me that he's only ever gotten two nominations at the academy awards for his OSTs.
I FORGOT HOW HARD THIS SOUNDTRACK GOES
This scene and soundtrack gave me chills as a kid and it still gives me chills now
I don't mind that I'm no longer a child - Jim Carry's powerful performance in this nerve wracking animation sequence will forever give me the chills and nearly bring tears to my eyes.
I'm eternally grateful to John Powell for giving us such Epically enthralling soundtracks in animated films.
"You're gonna need this"
OK, whats going on in the next stave?
"okay I see."
Producers: it’s a Horton hears a who movie
John Prowell: say less
🔥🔥🔥🔥🎺
The animation holds up really well considering how old this movie is
I have never seen this movie, but I feel this scene gives me all the information I needed.
John Powell and Hans Zimmer: 🤝🏻
Don’t quote me on this but I’m almost positive John Powell was Hans Zimmer’s student
Truly awe inspiring!!!
As someone who adores trumpets, this always stood out to me as an incredible performance (especially the last note). Still gives me chills to this day, and Powell still remains one of my favorite modern day composers of our current generation.
Can’t wait for this to be featured in a DCI show
we all gotta agree that this song gives you CHILLS
I knew that music gave me a similar vibe to HTTYD! Of course it was John Powell!
Damn right, if you snuck this song in a HTTYD movie prolly nobody would notice
@@lasigna0212nobody would notice a mariachi trumpet and opera singer if you slipped this into a viking style movie?
I first saw this movie in IKEA’s kid place when I was little. I got picked up right when Horton found the flower and thought everyone died so until we got this on DVD, I thought that’s how the movie ended 😂😂😂
One of the most underrated scores of all time! Thanks for doing this great transcription Hayden :)
I genuinely cannot watch this without tearing up by the end.
John Powell is my favorite composer ever. His work is just as good as Michael Giacchino or John Williams.
Truly awe inspiring!
I wonder who was playing this trumpet solo. There is plenty of marvellous players with scale above everything imaginable
Composers: How good do you want this kids movie solo to be
Director: Y E S
0:28 That little bit of trumpets as they're reaching the peak of the mountain is so underrated
I’ve always loved John Powell’s use of the brass section; so underrated!
I just picture its Horton playing the song as he runs up the mountain..
Do elephants have lips? 🤔
I love John Powell. I have a whole playlist just with his music
Because of this cue in particular, I greatly admire Powell's work in this film:
Clearly the production got too attached to The Good the Bad and the Ugly as temp track for this. Yet Powell managed to make it make sense with the rest of the score, both in orchestration and motivic material
Thank you so much for doing this. I absolutely love that music and that movie
Horton was very funny! Underrated movie and soundtrack. 🧡
“You’re gonna need this.”😂
this actually gave me goosebumps
ohhh my gosh. so cool to find this video and see this piece is finally getting come recognition!! ive been listening to Mountain Chase (and the Horton ost) for like, 6+ years, and was always wondering why it wasn't more popular. glad to see this is reaching a lot of ppl lol.
This movie is so underrated. It was a childhood classic if you ask me.
Truely awe inspiring!!!
"You're gonna need this" Over a 15 bar rest is fucking hilarious, powell knows how to write for trumpet fs
Honestly, this is the best 3D Dr. Seuss movie
Oh my god yes! This solo is etched in my memory and I looked for the entire soundtrack, and when I found it I listened to it on repeat
This sounds incredibly like Ennio Morricone. Truly amazing.
I second that. 😊
Awesome, John Powell! 😎
Why did this actually give me chills?😍
"You're gonna need this"
Thank you for transposing and posting this. I’ve been trying to play it, and it’s been cool to try and play cool parts when my high school band doesn’t really play much good music
Damn I can feel the intensity from the music alone. You don't even have to show me the film and I could tell with my eyes closed.
Inspiring, truly awed!
I've bever seen this film, nor do I even know what it is, but I certainly reckonised that the score was by John Powell!! Nothing short of EPIC!! ^_^
Not only was this a great sequence to watch as a kid, it’s just amazing in general. You wouldn’t think an animated Dr Seuss movie would be this cinematic but it was. You can feel Horton’s desperation and determination to save the whoo people and by god he’s gonna do it! Such an underrated movie and a childhood classic of mine.
Awesome timing ❤😊
This slaps so hard
trumpets and elephants go together
Man, you weren’t lying. The soloist going ham.
Anyways, make that 678 subs, keep up the great work!
This was one of my favorite scenes 👌
This made me levitate when i was 5 year's old
I watched this movie last year and during this scene I was actually in tears. Just thinking of the extent this elephant goes just to save this little speck, where most of th creatures don’t even believe he exists. I related it to God and His love for us and I was like BROOO 😭😭😭
