Looking forward to your next podcast with John. Always entertaining!
The New York burn. A S20 went into flames, have u any comments on that? I'll buy S20 if we get a good explanation else I'll just wait for Inmotion v13.
No thoughts as way to many unknown’s on that one. Will stick with what I know for sure, 1000km and loads of charges etc etc no issues.
I think the *bonus* of watching this channel is just huge. Keep it up!
Cheers!
4:42 "Because this would be going out for sale"
Sadly and for good reasons, Kingsong asks everyone with one of the first production units to stop riding them immediately, due to fire hazard.
How many firmware and hardware change to make it safe is unknown yet.
All the mainboard and BMS software and hardware safeties failed at once, leading to the spectacular firework in NYC and total wheel destruction. Even the last resort fuses on the BMS didn't help, and probably arced instead due to their inadequate rating (60V DC max on 126V packs).
It sucks but please don't sell this unit to someone until Kingsong involves 3rd party auditors on their battery safety, and comes up with robust solutions.
For now the main trigger seem to be related to hard braking at high charge level. Then it can escalate from here.
there is no way that Kingsong is going to have a 3rd party auditor 😞
@@YourAubsome I think eWheels is leaving them no choice.
@@supercurioTube I hope so!
It appeared to me that the initial failure was from hard acceleration from standstill, toppling the wheel. Acceleration from standstill is the most aggressive thing you can do. An induction motor will produce full torque from a standstill, but the wheel is effectively stalled. The current load will be extremely high, the Power Factor of the applied Voltage/Current will be as poor as it gets (W=VI will no longer apply since voltage and current will be partly out of phase), the battery voltage will sag. All this in a wheel that has its battery pack configured for voltage and not current and that very voltage making for higher current to be drawn in high load situations. When a wheel is not turning the load presented via the FET's to the battery is effectively just a copper coil of the gauge of the wire used in the motor. You could imagine it as a near short circuit, the current only limited by the resistance of the wire and the build-up of the magnetic field in the winding. Once the winding is at magnetic saturation the current will be even higher (through a lack of rotation). The FET's have current limits, reliably used within them, it is a known failure mode to use them outside of their specification. High transient currents also produce spikes dV/dt another FET failure mode and high heat another known failure mode. FET's normally fail in an on state. In our case putting the battery permanently across a stalled wheel, that's why the fuses are so important. These things have to be considered in the circuit design, firmware, fuses, batteries etc. KS will know about these things for sure, but just upping the battery voltage/ motor size, etc, doesn't cut it.
Lovely dog exercising tool to! :D
I dont like running, but my little 9 kilo dog does!
We now go for a 3-5 km run 3-5 times a week, me on the v8f and her on paws...
It is incredible to see long range spurts of 20kmh speeds, very obvious my dog loves it...
I have to take forced breaks at times, as she will just keep on running and running...
My dog is 12.5 years old.
“Ooo Jon’s just come off there, that’s a bit unusual isn’t it?” We all love Jon but I wouldn’t want to insure him for anything!!
Thanks for the review Ian. It looks like a proper stonking wheel!
Ha ha it always makes me laugh, he’s a top bloke.
Sad to see a Skydio go, it's spot-on with color fidelity, sharpness and these tracking shots! Really lovely to watch.
John might need to build confidence, maybe helped by a better power pads, nicely placed with foot lock-in, I notice he tends to jump off the wheel instead of trust he'll remain in control. Including in the end on the EX which has all the torque needed to brake in this descent, that he attempts to complete with 100% straight legs (never gonna work 😄)
For sure the straight leg thing will not help at all...
✌️ Keep it wheel 🤔
@@slidersgliders5516 hehe yeah. Bent knees will help with shock absorption, traction and bringing the center of gravity back, enough to get loads of braking power.
It looked pretty steep tho! I'm sure it looked scary.
He will get there, he has only been riding 9 years
@@Speedyfeetuk 😄 skate park practice can help in some cases.
What happens if you coach instead of teasing him tho? (at least in that case for comedic effet, maybe not in private)
I’m ready for a upgrade. I’m old so I don’t need the sportiest but suspension and a 18” wheel would be great. V11 might be for me.
Also it’s v4 if I recall correctly so it’s also well tested by now
I also looked at v11 several times as I back away from the v12 that I was planning to buy... I cant really use that top end speed.. If I even touch the streets here in Denmark in my area, some patrol will pull me over. ;p So v11 at 55kmh is more then enough on the bike paths... And like lukasz you say, it is well tested. It also looks good and not like a toy or cheap plastic motorcycle.
I have latest v11 (moved from ks16s). Great wheel. I set max speed for 25mph,its plenty for my bones, plenty of safety margin. Suspension is absolutely amazing addition, makes it much safer and forgiving.
@@weberito you’d think so!
@@krecikowi thanks, I limit the speed on my V8 to 16mph and I tell people I’m to old to bounce. I think the big wheel on the v11 might be ok to add some speed to ,maybe 20 or so BUT the little kid in me says let’s go old man.
haha that last part where John just flops down is just awesome. Great feedback on the S20 and for me its a good looking wheel. I like that its a bit wider and should make it more comfortable. Also how did you find the recharging? was that quick enough and did you try two chargers?
Great to hear again this S-20
With all this info on the Eagle fire that just happened… do you have any idea of what could have happened? This is obviously the first fire so it’s hard to know but just wanted to hear your opinion and if there is anything to look out for
go ride some more awesome wheels!! Enjoy
Way to many unknown's in that story to even start guessing, more to it than meets the eye for sure, rode this one hard, and I can only comment on what I know...just hit 1000km with no real issues.
@@Speedyfeetuk yeah and if it was something internal it would almost be impossible to find after the melting fire everywhere
I’m personally not worried about it, If we see more then yeah it might be something specific but until that happens, one scenario doesn’t make a trend, I just hope they don’t delay the wheel unless it’s to fix something important, but yeah could have been a freak accident
Great review! Hope your able to ride some more solid wheels coming up especially after this beauty!
@@thefoss721 Hsiang's video of the incident
@@paulcantrell3044 the original video I saw, that didn’t give us any info on what happened only ideas as of now until KS takes a deep dive into what caused this … and they are currently doing so , so let’s just hope it’s a tweak in the firmware or a cable that just needed to be wired or protected or whatever
I’m still not worried though one fire doesn’t make a wheel horrible, how many wheels you think king song sent out to the world…. 50? 60? So that’s a 2% chance to happen to another wheel if all you look at is statistics , but who knows maybe it’s a 1 in a million
@@thefoss721 I don't think it helped having a pretty forceful crash on it several weeks before. And like he said, these pre-production models are there to get a hammering. Most of these testers would likely treat their own wheel with a little more care (emphasis on most 😂)
SpeedyFeet - Pioneer of EUCs in the UK.
What's with the sliders? People saying that all the dirt stays in there. Own s18 for now, and frankly speaking i don't need much more for now, for semi-city use. But maybe year later, if everything will be ok.)
oh noooo for Skydio 2, got same crash on my first 8min ride (new), many hours experience on DJI without any crash! Lucky I got repair very cheap! issues with Skydio 2 due to small branches are hard to be detect!
I am originally form France but live in USA, have you see video in NYC S20 getting in fire?
My question is to which wheel are you comparing it to say the s22 has a short range? I see everyone else get around 30 to 50+miles on average going from street to rougher terrain at 25miles per h average speed. i thought this was a generally good range and not many wheels around this price went above that.
Nice to see it survived 1K km through mud and water.
I own EX (with suspension), waiting for my long-ordered S20, so how do you compare those two?
EX is more powerful and has a bigger battery, no point buying a S20 unless you want better suspension
@@yusufcanaktas6929 I already bought it, because why the f not, it's a first 100+ volt wheel and the first high-speed KS wheel in its history to boot, with suspension and seated riding and semi-decent battery - unlike S18 which is a 3-parallel 30 km range toy.
I need to have 2 eucs at all times, and after EX, I don't want to own a wheel without suspension, like, ever.
@@theDigited I had a cutout on an EX at 30kmh, wheel was faulty from the motor and pedals dipped suddenly on a straight line. S20 has 4 parallels, not so different than S18. Also there are much better options if you want seated riding. Personally the limitation of the power because of the software is a dealbreaker for me.
Will you be reviewing the Hero? and at some point, doing a direct comparison of all the suspension wheels on the market once they are all fully out of the gate this year?
Waiting for comment from Kingsong on the explosive fire of the NY wheel. Prior to that the S20 was looking pretty good. Hard to know at this point.
Not sure about that single unit, all I know is mine has been spot on for over 1000km
Did you changed maybe 3 screws for making the suspension and overall wheel lower/higher?
4:42 for sale when, where & how much you looking for?
Too bad about the skydio 2
will you be replacing it with the skydio 2+ ?
Have you seen the fire With the S 20
Yes
Hi guys I'm about to buy inmotion P2f with 5400 km
Do you advise me not to buy or go for it
Please 🙏 help me
What type of grease would you recommend for inside slides?!? Which has plastic guides...
I tend to use copper grease but marine grease would be good as well.
Oh, dear John!
Ian, no disrespect intended, but as an aging EUC rider I'm concerned about your grey hair. I'm in my late 40s, and I ride electric because it makes more sense. But I'm a bit concerned about electromagnetic fields and their possible effect on my health. Therefore, your hair worries me because you seem young. So, I'm just wondering, how old are you and did your hair start to go gray noticeably after getting into electric vehicles? No fun intended, just an honest question, I promise.
Thank you for the informative videos.
-DLM
No, starter early thirties prior to ev’s.
@@Speedyfeetuk Cool.
How much would it sell for 2nd hand
Try some hard braking from speed 🔥
Yeah been there done that over 1000km.
Fairly shallow final review, other than "it worked".
Guess that's to be expected - after pointing to your other reviews.
I'm still not convinced this wheel is for me, especially after the NYC fire proving the smart BMS is worthless. Not even risking it. Maybe if KS releases a Gen. 2 modell with bigger battery and safety.
Yeah it happened to be a bookend to a series of real life harsh tests as it turned out, as outlaid at the start, nothing different to say than what was in the 650km review as it was non eventful - nothing cropped up.
Thank you 👍
No problem!
Thoughts on Hsiang's S20 inferno?
I wouldn’t ride one in dry forest
Read the comments.
A really good wheel but with a few flaws, the fire obviously. I wonder what the verdict on that one will be, what caused it, how will they solve the issue?
A single unit has caught fire, so its a little odd, I would have expected if there was an inherent problem with the design for others to have suffered the same, but mines 1000km in with no such issues, and others close to the same. Its an odd one!
@@Speedyfeetuk I don't think a lot of machines are in circulation yet so even one fire is significant. A lot depends on the cause of failure, these test machines have had some abuse so if the battery pack had failed that would need looking at, maybe the control board failed and the batteries were not sufficiently protected from such a fault. Maybe the firmware did not prevent excess current, or the BMS got damaged in some way, but wherever the cause it needs to be understood, Begode have been bedeviled with similar problems we really don't want this from KS as well. I have no doubt they are taking it very seriously.
Next wheel please be the Master or de ex20s...
Are there any rattles with this suspension mechanicals?
Nothing
What's the diffference between 2 and 2+?
More range capability and large batteries.
Thans, nice video, super jumping! Can you write riders weight???
Around 15stone
@@Speedyfeetuk Thanks!
Did you opened the wheel and do a cleaning ...or not?
No, not touched intentionally
@@Speedyfeetuk would you say thos wheel will hold 3000km?
@@omidel. cant see why not, its handle a tough 1000km with no issues so far.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Awesome review, just brilliant!
Thanks Bro!
Where is Jonno? MIA?
UK version didn't explode
Did UK get a different special version?
Mike how many did explode?
@@Speedyfeetuk Hi Ian, just one that I'm aware of but that was enough for KS to acknowledge the problem.
@@OnizukaGTO I was attempting to be humorous, but that blew up too, lol.
Yeah I think they gave gone ultra safe, in reality once single instance and I have seen 1000km tick by with zero issue to boot.
I am not happy, I just spent 3 grand on a wheel that does not improve my commute!!! The stock 340 kg spring is completely over purposed... Why on earth would they use the size?!! I am 80 kg and barely move suspension... useless...
I am getting 100 km range and no problem with stock wheel, but this thing can not do potholes or tree roots as is....
Didnt find that at all. Did you get the shock instruction manual with yours? We scanned the manual here: www.speedyfeet.co.uk/blogs/help-and-advice/kingsong-s20-eagle-suspension-setup
Ah come on... Nothing bad happened for 1000 km??? U-stride had it for a full 10 minutes and set it on fire....and totally screwed over KS...
Oh well
wrong way - poor suspension project and bad opinion about s20, Hsiang- burned s20, many testers had one or more cutouts on s20.
Sooooo.....no, thx. Nobody of us wants to be beta-tester of underdeveloped and dangerous prototype.
wrong way failed to set up the wheel properly at first glance and has since then changed his opinion for the better. wheels have burned from every single euc brand. And we're watching a betatester right here, the production model should be different no?
Wrong Way made another video and he likes it now. Beta abusers is more like what's going on.
Boys with toys :-D
Literally!
Poor Jon
All his own doing 😎😂
Unbielevable to publish a video 2 days after the big NYC fire without even mentionning it... Hard to trust the integrity of the review and the reviewer without even a short notice on it
What on earth are you on about, I am reviewing my wheel, not someone else’s. I know nothing about that single incident…nothing. And when I know nothing I dont waste the air with conjecture.
@@Speedyfeetuk I find your tone a little bit arsh... and by reading my comment, it is in fact a fair attitude... since i was. But my point was, since the event i'm talking about has its importance when it comes to buying such an expansive wheel, it would have been useful, at least from my point of view, to mention it. Speculating about it, is, i agree, useless. In the past, since i've watched many of your video you were pretty well informed about the news around the products you're presenting... so i assumed this was brought to your attention, hence my reaction
My gosh, what a ridiculous comment. Why do you think Ian or anyone not directly involved in the NYC fire should or even could have an opinion on the subject. Opinions are like bum holes, they stink when people put them in you face, it’s best to keep them to your self.
@@scottmorris7320 i NEVER asked for an opinion, i don''t care about opinions. I am just talking about INFORMATION. Just saying. "Guys, there has been an incident about this model of wheel". Was my comment a little rude, a little too direct, sure ! Ridiculous, i don't think so. Ian precised his role there : "Just commenting his experience on his own wheel", not providing information about the model in general. I understood this, and i am ok with this.
@@albanperrin3234 I think I understand your point, yes the fire incident is a concern for any of us considering purchasing the wheel. I think it also raises our level of understanding of the dangers of the power system. No doubt when petrol engines came out there was some issues before we got to making them as safe as they are now. Have a great day, I hope you enjoy the S20 if you decide to purchase one.
I'm tired about quantity of this wheels.
Quantity?
@@Speedyfeetuk quality. It's like a ticking bomb. Fire, explosions, cutouts, no proper water proofing etc. Not just s20. In general those wheels have issues.
@@krecikowi Not had and of those issues and can only comment on my own real life first hand experience. Also specifically tested the waterproofing in this video here with zero negative issues: ruclips.net/video/L0lx93D8SfU/видео.html
