  • A Gentleman In Moscow, An adaptation of Amor Towles’ internationally best-selling novel, follows Count Alexander Rostov, played by Emmy Award winning actor Ewan McGregor in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, finds that his gilded past places him on the wrong side of history. Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol, threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love.

I believe the decision to cast a black actor in a movie set early 20th-century Russia era raises questions about representation and historical accuracy. Casting a black actor in a role within that specific historical context could potentially distort the reality of the period and undermine the experiences of those who lived through it. Any casting decision should prioritize authenticity. From Portugal with love.

Judging from the trailer, I don’t think this film is going to do justice to the book.

Beyond ridiculous casting black characters in 1920s Russia

Awh man - did they completely miss the part where this character is royalty? The actor does not stand, move, or speak like someone raised in that environment. And that's the entire point of the story. It is not meant to just be some guy stuck in a hotel. I mean it does not look poorly acted just not at all capturing the personality of the main character. And that changes the entire story.

  • @magicconchy

I’m so happy they decided to go with Sasha baron cohen.

Okay so... I love this series but... Remember back in the day shows had 26 episode in one season? Like eventually we're going to stop caring about actors working 50 weeks-per-year in the future. These 10 episode runs are cute. The concept that someone works an entire year at their job. Lost in time.

NO! Goofy Ewan is one thing, but having him look like a cross between Charlie Chaplin and Gene Shalit?? Nyet!

  • @circagenx

I absolutely enjoyed working on this production in special effects department SFX. Surreal pleasure meeting Ewan and the rest of the guys. SFX Rolando

  • @svenkites

Why I love Ewan here I almost always imagined Ralph Fiennes from the Great Budapest for some reason. But oh well, looks good!

I didn’t know that 1920s Moscow had so many people of African and Indian descent working in hotels and in the post revolution Duma. What a surprise.

  • @almazyfiennes

It was an awesome book. I hope the best for this show
