  • Doug and Carl interview friend, fellow Longmonster, and FIRE legend Mr. Money Mustache (aka Pete Adeney).
    When Tim Ferriss interviewed Pete, they ended by talking about Pete’s desire to own a local community gathering space. This is the jumping off point for the Mile High FI conversation.
    But, they go a lot deeper too. No talk about index funds or the 4% Rule. That stuff has been covered. Instead, this conversation is about happiness, journeys, and meaning.
    MMM HQ Coworking
    - How Pete and Carl came to own a coworking space
    - What happens at HQ
    - Is HQ a coworking space or social club?
    Happiness
    - The real goal of Mr. Money Mustache (it’s not moneymap)
    - What is happiness?
    - The factors that lead to happiness
    - Journey versus goals
    Pete’s perfect day

    Carl loved your intro story on finding MMM. Personal narratives are powerful and helpful. MMM's comment about knowing what to do and yet not being able to do it is pretty much the human experience summed up. We're emotional animals that act rationally, not the other way around.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who wears one gray puma sock and one black puma sock.

    • @1500Days
      @1500Days Год назад +3

      Haha! I usually get more than 20,000 steps per day, so my socks have short, hard lives.
      A little known fact is that just like beavers, socks mate for life. With me though, it's not uncommon for one of them to prematurely lose its mate (holes due to wear). When this happens, the sock has to hook up with another sock. That's what happened here. :)

    Your channel and this podcast popped up on my Facebook. So glad it did (would have probably seen it from your Twitter anyways lol). Such an excellent interview. My wife and I started purposefully focusing more on FI/RE lifestyle just late November of last year, and you OGs keep us motivated haha!

      @@1500Days You guys may already have an episode on it, but is there a "best way" to do health insurance for the early retiree (around 40 years old)? Since I know little about the subject, I am sure it is too broad of question, but that is something that stresses us out. My wife is an elementary school teacher, and we use her insurance for now. Thank you!

    Great discussion fellas - good to know I’m not the only person on earth that views the stairs option as an opportunity!
    Also… is that Pete grasping a piece of celery in the thumbnail?

    • @1500Days
      @1500Days Год назад

      Yep, celery FTW!
      I love stairs too. Escalators and elevators are for the weak!
      I used to work in a 15 story office building. For a workout, I'd walk up the stairs and take the elevator back down. My record was 25 times (375 floors) which took me a couple of hours. This was followed by me throwing up (the only time I've done this after a workout).

    About walking in cold being good for you, what about walking in heat, ie. 90F and up - always seem to wait for less hot parts of the day, but is there any benefit to getting super hot, (rather than cold)?

    • @MileHighFIPodcast
      @MileHighFIPodcast  Год назад +1

      I'm not sure about that other than sweating and getting your heart rate up. I know saunas are great, but I'm not sure it's hot enough to get the sauna like benefits. (Not a doctor, not medical advice) :) But stay hydrated in any case!

    Hey Carl hey Doug hey Pete. Perhaps you guys are interested in staying with me over the summer in Cleveland to help on my home project and on the in-law Airbnb suite. Carl has seen some of the photos but could definitely use your carpentry skills. Cleveland in the summer is great. We have the National Park the islands on lake Erie and cedar point if you like roller coasters.
