I’m a guitarist and bought the Zoia virtually from day one. I use it live as my main reverb and delay pedal using midi for changing patches between songs. I also use it live to control other pedals. EG using the envelope follower to create an auto wah on my Chase bliss Condor or controlling the hot switch and ribbon on my H9. The Zoia is exactly what you need it to be, the ultimate problem solver and the biggest anti GAS pedal ever. It is not for everyone though; I do think you need some synthesis skill or be prepared to learn some to get the most of of it.

That's awesome, how do you use MIDI to change patches? Thanks!

@@vertigev are you talking about using Zoia to change patches on another pedal? Or changing patches on Zoia.

@@Domn879 I think it depends on your usage. The H9 is still quite complicated as its not obvious what some of the parameters within each algo actually do without some research and/or knowledge. In addition the H9 allows use of only one algo at a time, though some of them do combine reverb, delay and chorus or modulation with reverb for example. If I was mainly buying for pitch/harmoniser effects I would get the H9 first. The Zoia requires a lot of time and effort to learn, but once you have put that effort in you can build patches that match exactly your needs, whether that is reverb, delay, modulation, synthesis (and soon sampling) and any mixture there of. Its also a great way to learn synthesis. Zoia can do pretty much everything H9 can as, but the pitch effects aren't as good. The reverbs/delays and modulation are on a par in terms of sound quality, though specialist reverbs are different. Hope that helps!

I love Zoia . I have it on my live board to . I’m predominantly a Bass player and use maybe 7 patches live . I also am a producer making records and media compositions from trailers to serial shows and the odd movie here and there and it gets used on virtually every project . Yes there’s a bit of a learning curve but each module is fairly simple and once you get the hang of it it’s genuinely the most fun pedal available today
    And sonically it sounds great

Great video. For what it's worth, programming it isn't that bad. Start with something small, like your own reverb, and you basically have the building blocks of understanding in order to create more.
If I can learn it, 90% of the population can, as I'm not what one would call an intellectual.

As far as setting this up to use live, you can definitely connect it to a midi foot pedal to perform simple program changes, or connect it to your laptop and use automation lanes in something like Studio One in the Show section and it will just do whatever you program it to do exactly the same way every time for every show without ever having to think about it

  • @albertoromero3431

It's in my top 3 pedals. When I got it I think it kind of "cured" my pedal GAS, since I started asking myself how a pedal sound works. Therefore, when there's a new pedal I want to buy, I ask myself: What is it doing? How?
Then I do some reverb with envelope following, or a reverse delay with vibrato modulated by an LFO...
    It's just an amazing pedal

I have spent a bit of time with mine now and must say it’s great once you learn stuff! My big advice would be start of basic!! Just create a simple delay then add to it! I worked out how to make the repeats dark, like an analog delay :) that was a nice moment for me :) then I added modulation! Then I changed the delay to two delays! For separate L and R! With there own effects added! Have a pitch shifter on one channel and flanger on the other!!! I was having fun! But you must remember what your doing or label it! I did get lost on one patch and go some connections crossed :) I plan to release some patches on that website at some point! Would love feedback on what I make!! Help me know if I’m doing good?

I’m finally going to get my mits on a Zoia tomorrow when i jam with a few buddies (a rarity, so very cool for me) and very possibly will be buying it after, if it’s all it’s cracked up to be. I’ve loved my HX Stomp but the way I use it is… not really what was intended? The helix is pretty guitar/guitarist-centric. They’ve done a ton of work on the bass side of things, but I still end up just kinda using it for multifx that i then run into an iPad for the wilder granular kinda stuff i like to play with. The zoia may just take it off it’s thrown.

I usually make a "front panel" using Value modules to represent knobs, which are named and connected to the important parameters. This makes it a bit easier. I will agree, tweaking on the fly will always be better with physical knobs. Midi is also an excellent method as well.
