I was going crazy thinking that the light meter in my new camera was not working. Turns out you need to give the shutter a slight press after unlocking the camera. Thanks for the video!
Hola Nico!
I like the fe2 better because of how it meters, that needle system rather than the fm2’s +\- indicator. If I can ever get the Fm3a that would take the cake though !
Hey Nico, I just bought a Nikon FM2n with Nikkor 50mm 1.4 AIS lens. I'm still a bit confused about the metering with AIS lens, should I meter it with the depth-of-field lever or just normal ? (the meter change when i pressed that lever) since normally, the aperture doesn't change until I pressed the shutter release button to take a photo
Late answer - but with AI/AIS lenses the aperture ring is coupled to the camera meter via that little tab on outside of the mount. As a result you can meter wide open since the lens is communicating with the camera meter. When you take a picture the camera does two things before opening the shutter: it kicks the mirror up, and it stops down the aperture in the lens to the set aperture.
Thank you Nico's Photography Show for all your interesting and helpful reviews. I use the Nikon FM3a as my main 35mm camera. It is a step up from the FM2n, but I think definitely worth the extra investment. I bought it new in 2005, and it is still going strong and like new. I am looking for a back up 35mm camera, and am trying to choose between a FM, F3 or F4. Beside this I am more a medium format shooter, and I use several medium format systems. Ha! You’re such a show off! You Hassy and Leica “just happened” to be in frame… I would show off, too! Just kidding… I see your other videos on those cameras…
Nico, some concerning (or at least odd) news from Foma, their website and Instagram account have vanished. According to a guy on Reddit (r/analogcommunity) the information for the domain shows the website has changed hands recently

Excellent how to video, I just received my FM2 and was wondering where is a good place to buy and develop film.

Next to my FE2 this my favorite camera!

Both are amazing, I mean I would have one of each for the benefits of aperture priority or mechanical 1/4000. Each one has its pluses.
hi Nico my shatter button isn't working on this specific camera how do I fix that? and I want to sell it, where the best place to do so?

I have grid screen in my fm2 and do not know how to focal with this screen. Help!

F3p is the best one.
Question, I have a 50mm 1.8 lens. What filter can I use? Thank you!
Depends on the version of the lens.
But most times its 52mm with Nikon lenses.
appreciate the video!
Awesome & Thanks :)
Welcome 😊
No T for timed exposures is a bummer
Honestly a remote shutter release cable with the press lock is gonna be much simpler and introduces less vibration.

I have heard something, will see if I can ask around what is going on.
