Bondi Rescue follows the work of the elite professional Lifeguards who patrol Australia’s busiest beach. This is Australia’s real life Baywatch! Taking the viewers on their journey through mass rescues, drownings, resuscitations, shark sightings, and all number of the weird and wonderful experiences Bondi Beach dishes up.
In #BondiRescue the audience sees the action through the eyes of real characters and #lifeguards like Hoppo, Deano, Reidy, Jesse, Maxi, Whippet and Harries, as they catch thieves, perform CPR, make drug busts, break up fights, and even handle a navy bomb that washes ashore one afternoon. Every year throws up new and completely unexpected challenges, and how lifeguards adapt is what makes Bondi Rescue a show that’s about much more than swimmers being saved in the surf.

A reason to make sure you know the basics of language of the country you are travelling to. Such things as "here to help", "do this" etc.

Or at least point out the lifeguards (and their equipment) to kids, explain who they are and what they do, so they will approach them if they need help. Police, Fire, and EMS wear distinctive uniforms that are easily recognizable. To a scared child with limited beach experience, a lifeguard just looks like a random stranger on a surfboard. I grew up in the ocean and when we were young, my parents would always point out the lifeguards and what they were wearing (red or neon green swimsuits seemed to be most common in our area) so we kids would know who to look for and to listen to them if they told us to do something. Now I instinctively look for the lifeguards at the beach and mentally make note of their “color scheme” in case I need them later.

Yep! The lack of common sense is everywhere. A lot of people underestimate the ocean and overestimate their abilities when it should be the other way around. I grew up in the ocean and am pretty comfortable with anything it can throw at me but I never assume that it’s completely safe. If the surf is really big, I don’t go in. If there are signs warning of danger, I don’t go in. What really kills me on this show is the people who see the bluebottle signs, hear lifeguards’ warnings, see other people with stings, jump in anyway, and then get upset when they’re stung! It’s not like the jellyfish say, “oh no, John’s in the water now. We’d better go, we don’t want to sting THAT guy!” Yeesh!

In the UK St John’s Ambulance have Cadet groups, you can start learning the first aid techniques bit early. They might have something similar near you? Red Cross?
