    I had a massive heart attack and had open heart surgery bypassing 3 clogged arteries. 40% of the output mussel died. That happened in 2015 when I thought I was in great shape. Fast forward to 2021 ridding my bicycle everyday, but now know that I will not achieve the level of fitness as before, BUT I am fit and ride almost everyday with quarter mile sprints every now and then I am now 77 and going strong. Though I was eating a healthy diet and was, but I guess genetics had a part. My father and his father died of a heart attack. Mine happened nearly in front of the hospital and road my bike to the ER and walked in, 20 minutes later was in surgery and was out in 3 days, stay fit it helps. KMRC in Kingman AZ saved my life. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE YEARS TO COME.

    At 37 years old, I had a stemi back in February. Thank God for collateral arteries. The ER wasn’t much help. They told me to calm down and that I was having a panic attack. When I said I think I’m having a heart attack, the ER (male) nurse says, “Fine, we’ll hook up the DAMN EKG to show you you’re not”. Things got moving pretty quick to the cath lab after that. EF is now 60 and I’m back to work.

      I had a heart attack at 28. I had a psychotic nervous breakdown and went ballistic. I just wanted to have a heart attack and die. It was horrifying. Somehow I survived but now I feel like my heart is enlarged. I never went to the Dr because I was too scared to go. How can I even explain to the Dr what I did? I'm taking Aspirin every day. Someone please tell me what I should do I haven't even told my mom. I'm embarrassed. I still have numbness in the left arm especially my left shoulder..Am I gonna have to get a 5 artery bypass?

    • @joshuawayneyork
      @joshuawayneyork Год назад

      @@andrewsmith3257 You need to go to the ER and tell them what happened and that you're having numbness in your arm. They will do an ultrasound and CT scan and that will tell them everything they need to know and whether or not you have an enlarged heart . When you have a heart attack it's VERY important that you get on certain medications, do deal with this right away, you do NOT want to go through open heart surgery, trust me, I know. It was the most terrifying experience of my entire life several times over and I've lived a very tough life filled with agony.

    This is so important, but everyone needs to know how to help heart attack victims. The kiss of life thing doesn't come in to it these days, just the pressure on some ones heart is enough to inflate the lungs. and keep that person alive. The paramedics will take over when they arrive, but you will have saved a life, how cool is that.

    I am not sure if you read the comments but my question is , do the myocardial cells during the first 0-4 hours you mention develop permanent damage or are they able to function like before if reperfusion via a stent is achieved during this period?

    • @Psychiatrist78
      @Psychiatrist78 5 лет назад +1

      Good question. He says a clot obstructing the coronary artery for 20 minutes will cause irreversible damage but at the same time he says the myocytes are struggling up to 4 hours to survive and then they die off. So i am kind of confused. If we act within an hour we can save the heart muscle /minimize the damage or after that 20 minutes we have already lost a piece of cardiac muscle…..what is the time to act??!
