I was quoted $80 to get the foggy issue fixed by the importer in Perth Western Australia. I decided to upgrade to a newer model that has 2 cameras & was supposed to have less over heating as well. I took my one apart & cleaned the lense & drilled air holes as well.Problem fixed & saved $600. Thank you very much NearFarMedia. Regards Kev
I just want to thank you for your video the problem with foggy lens on the blackvue I followed you step-by-step watching your RUclips video and mine now works perfectly 100% vision, I was cleaning the front of the lens clean windscreen inside and out didn't realise the problem was inside, once again a huge thank you. Regards Terence UK.
Thanks for this. Have a DR3500 with the same issue and followed this and issue resolved. First time this happened, sent it back and received a "better version" of the DR3500 and 8 months later, it's come back again on the replacement one. Instead of shipping it back and waiting nearly a month for a third "replacement", I just followed your steps and issue resolved. Very grateful for this video.
Thank you NearFarMedia! I too was suffering from a foggy lens, but didn't realise that was the actual problem. Simply thought the internals were broken. Cleaned it like you said and it's as new. Did nevertheless decide to buy an upgrade (DR600GW) and will now run the old 1080 Full HD camera in the back! Thanks again!
dr400 1 n only worst expensive foggy defect blackvue camera. regular maintenance needed. worst my len condense internally cause starry image. cant even service condensed lens. thanks for tutorial sir. works for me in the past
Good onya mate, spot on advice, ta. As a retired Photographer/Videographer I have come to know me lenses and their coatings. Watch your video just before you use the harsh Isopropyl alcohol. Look at the lens it's all coated pink purplish, that's the UV coating. It appears after your cleaning of the lens, the UV coating was damaged leavin part of the lens uncoated, only super gentle swirling motions should be applied when cleaning any lens. Isopropyl is a great contact cleaner for electronics, but for lenses and UV coatings is a it's a mongrel basterd. Without the coating the CCD sensors and alike sensors burn in the sun rays . When filming with sun in the background UV protectors are used for video and still cameras to prevent that kind of lens damage. The lens coating fails in the sun light anyway when used daily for yonks, sensors are so expensive to replace if you can get them, blood oath.
he also should be using foam cotton swaps to clean the sensor and lens instead of using tissue which is abrasive, for iso alcohol i think dilution of around 30% is safe
Dude, this also happens to my DR3500FHD. I discovered it well within the warranty period and they replaced it with an enhanced version of the 3500. It got a little better and issue still came back much slower than before. I guess I will need to clean it sooner or later. Not sure if anyone here has got the 3500 cleaning video? It will be very much appreciated.
Wow, so it is still an issue? I would say that the fix would be very similar to what I show. The main difference would be in the dissasembly of the camera. After I cleaned the one in the video, the problem never returned. Let us know how you go if you clean yours! :)
+TERRAOperative Yeah. My previous unit was much worse! I actually didn't notice the problem until I had a near accident and when I wanted to playback the footage, it was when I discovered the issue. I had it cleaned by the authorized dealer once but the problem did not go away. I called them up again and they replaced it with their so-called 'revised' version and it got much better, but the problem is coming back as I discovered it's not as sharp as before when installed new. Looking at this video the 3500 looks very much the same and I suppose I can follow it to clean it up. Will update after I've tried it. :)
+Evgeny Tukin Yeah, I had already taken it apart before filming and forgot to put it back for the video. I did reinstall the battery before it went back in the car though.
+William Dean It shouldn't happen again, well, not too soon anyway. I guess it's not such a hard thing to do every so often though. I think it's caused by a residue left during manufacture or maybe the plastic out-gassing or the mold release agent from the plastic molding process. Once it's cleaned it should be ok, or at least be less of a problem with each cleaning.
+NearFarMedia well this video is from 2013 so if it hasn't popped up yet I guess it's doing pretty good. I noticed it occurred mostly on hot summer days when the air conditioner was used and then the car will shut off this left a cold condenser inside a hot car , which condensation wood than occur inside the car

Thank you! I had the DR3500FHD model and this solved my issue. I thought maybe I was having to buy a new camera.... Cheers!
Nicely done, this helped me out. Thank-you
So i see 2 different types of batteries in the unit. Which one do i replace when it doesn't shut down properly?
Thankyou Smuchly for that excellent video. Showed me how.
Fixed my foggy lens issue. Using the DR400g-HDII. PCB board a little different on the II making a little more fiddly around the lens. Cheers ^_^/
Many thanks!!!!!!

I do not see battery connected inside. Did you have one?
+Evgeny Tukin Yeah, I had already taken it apart before filming and forgot to put it back for the video.

Thank you so much
This was great, but how do you get it to not come back????
