Awesome. I never knew the Flagg came with a megaphone. It really adds play value to the toy.

I am not a Joe collector, never really played with them as a kid, but with your video quality and the sheer size and legend of this toy I am really excited for this series!

I'd guess most of these were lost when 80's parents "misplaced" or "accidentally dropped them down the stairs" back in the day.

Judging by those noises at the end, I imagine that this was the kind of toy parents hated.
Of course, those are the best kinds of toys.

I was checking about this awesome toy and now I see this, I remember having a speaker like this on my bmx back in the 80s. It had no microphone though, it was yellow and had exactly the same shape with the same siren sounds... Thank you for the nostalgia.

I never thought I'd say this, but every now and then I'd stop listening because I was distracted by how good the video looks.
It's like I'm in the room with you it's so clear.

Thankfully my microphone still works but I'm glad this video was made in case I need to repair it in the future also the yojoe outlet center is a great part of the vintage toy community and I'm glad to see the coopers getting recognized here on RUclips thanks retroblasting !

It's very interesting to see you repairing this microphone because I had the USS Flagg in 1985 and it was the first thing that broke and I opened it and tried to fix it but at 7 years old it was too much complicate for me!

Get yourself a cheap multimeter from an electronics shop. Using a multimeter to test the connections on a circuit board is much safer than throwing a battery in. Heatshrink is fine but I'd just get a suction tool to completely remove/replace the battery cable. Aside from having to unscrew the board it's cleaner and has less chance of coming loose. It doesn't require use of a heatgun either, which can damage the cable or even other components if accidentally set too high.

I had the Flagg as a kid. Still have it to this day just stored away. Complete but missing some pieces. I was an only child so had a lot of toys GI Joe, Transformers, He-Men, Mask,Go Bots, Marvel and DC superheroes.

As I'm in the process of cobbling one together, I've been looking forward to this restoration.
The biggest issue I have is the cost of getting parts sent to the UK, given the size of some of the parts. I've managed to get hold of some these parts at reasonable prices, with reasonable shipping costs, only for them to arrive damaged.
    I will persevere!

One of my cousins had the Flagg. I remember thinking as a kid the microphone on the bullhorn was pretty underwhelming and not loud enough. I'm sure his parents appreciated that at least.

Mike, one of the tricks I have learned and you may already know this, but the solution "Metal Rescue" is great for removing the rust on all metals (Screws and pieces) without damaging anything else. I have used it many times on my WWII rifles with rusty parts. But that being said, you may be surprised by the use for your restorations?

Another good solution for heat shrink would be to use a hairdryer

Oh boy, here... we... GO! =D
I'm curious to know if the Flagg and Snake Mountain are the only playsets from the 80's that had a roleplay accessory included (which incidentally are both microphone types)

My best advice for soldering is: Don't use the iron to melt the solder. Use the iron to heat the parts to be joined, and let *them* melt the solder. That's the best way to ensure the whole area is at temperature, and avoid the dreaded cold solder joint.

question: would it be worth the effort to open the microphone and see if any of those contacts are corroded, try and clean them up? or is it the case where the box was designed not to open?
