Roger, if you and David could find some way of putting it all behind you both, and make just one video like this together, it would bring a flood of hope into a world that's sorely lacking it right now.

I didn't realize how many emotions I had suppressed for so many years, the way men were taught to do. Anger, resentment, fear and self doubt had led me to cut myself off from most people. Every time I hear it again, I remember what a turning point in my life it was. It gave me a handle on what I was feeling and let me realize that I wasn't the only man to feel this way. Martin Wilson sweetheart sweetheart, are you fast asleep? Good. Cause that’s the only time that I can really speak to you.......The Final Cut was an album that truly spoke to the bitterness, anger, resentment and pain of a generation who had been duped and abandoned by the Flower Power generation, who all got haircuts and jobs, mortgages, families..and left us with Reagan and Thatcher and their sycophants..Roger stayed angry, God bless him for it. He has never wavered from calling out the hypocrisy of all the shite around us. I love that whole album, The Fletcher Memorial, home for incurable tyrants and kings..man! Although my own personal song has always been Nobody Home, it summed me up to a t then, and still does. Floyd have been part of the soundtrack of my life since Syd’s time, I guess I’m getting on, but they, and specifically Roger, are still right there with us poor lost souls, on our Sisyphean mission of trying to fight the hypocrisy rife in this world.
As an addendum, many moons later I cared for returned WW2 servicemen in their dotage, and it was the Angels over Dresden who suffered the most. They didn’t see their war up close and personal until many years later, they shut down.

    • @virginiaviola5097
      @virginiaviola5097 4 года назад

Martin Wilson in 1983 I did do the final cut..and then came to, blood everywhere, and much to my chagrin, with St Peter waving his pearly fingers at me saying “ you think you can get out of it that easy kid? Then think again, you’ve got stuff to do and lessons to learn, and you’re only going have to come back and start all over again”..and as the first 20 years that I had under my belt had been pretty horrific, the idea of having to go back and start again was a damn fine deterrent from ever trying to skip out early on the party ever again..every birthday up until 42 was a celebration of one year closer to leaving..lol. I’m a bit more chill about it these days, until now, when checking out is forefront of my every waking moment...I guess that’s why I’ve wound up back here. But then, in 1983, it was Roger, Bob Geldof’s brilliant performance as Pink, and The Final Cut..it’s these great musicians and in my case Lennon and Bowie too, who keep those of us who from childhood have wondered how the f*ck did we wind up here on the completely wrong planet staying the course.

Jane Doe My mother took me. I remember bubbles and a light show. But to my two year old mind I saw fish on the walls and the bubbles had me thinking we were under water. I kept telling my mother to “look at the fishes!” She tried to explain it was just lights and I did not believe her. To me we were in an octopus’s garden. I think they played “Money” even though it hadn’t been released yet. But, I could have mixed this detail up with my toddler memories. I had a little toy cash register and loved the sound the register made and after the concert, the register became my favorite toy. Or, maybe it was after Dark Side was released that I became obsessed with that toy. My parents took me to tons of concerts growing up. That was my first. Later would be Airplane, Dead, The Tubes, The Beach Boys, Doobie Brothers and others. It was a magical time to be a child of flower children.☮️

In 1979, I turned 14 years old. I was quickly growing out of my collection of KISS albums. I went into the local JCPenny's in my hometown and bought The Wall. At the time, the only song I knew from it was Another Brick in the Wall which played on my small town's only rock station. It took me a little while to realize the album was a story into the mind of a rock star named Pink. I remember putting my Radio Shack headphones on and laying in my room with the lights out while the two vinyl records took me places I never even knew existed. I still have the album with me to this day. I just wanted to thank Roger for giving me the key to other places. Peace to all who take the time to read this comment.

As a 14 year old, when I first got into the Floyd, they became everything to me. They weren't a pop band or a rock band, they were THE band. They were, I thought, enlightened beyond anything I had known before. They weren't like anyone else. When they split, they just didn't split themselves they broke all of us. I put them on a pedestal and they knocked themselves off it. So, like all right minded people, we looked elsewhere for the magic we had lost. I'm sure everyone has found nuggets of gold out there? I found plenty but I still wonder what could have been? The best concert I've been to in the last 30 years?. Nick Mason and his Saucerful of Secrets, that's what. Because I still love the floyd and always will. It's just so shite that it went the way it did. It doesn't invalidate the music. Just leaves millions of people a bit less happy than they once were. Still, I like this version of mother so thanks for that. ps. Pros and Cons is still one of my all time fave albums. I'm 53 now by the way so this has burnt bright for quite a while. Just saying :)

This version of mother is beautiful. I really enjoy listening to the young ladies. Their voices are angelic.
In fact the entire band is also quite amazing. The guitarests and drummers included.
I am now putting together a piano arrangememt of this song.
Thank you very much Mr. Roger Waters. You and Mr. David Gilmour are musical legends.
    God Bless All of You.

Rob Summers it depends do u like the theatrical lyrical side of Pink Floyd or the spacey musical atmosphere side of Pink Floyd. Personally My ear likes the music cause it’s brain food but artistically my mind likes breaking down the themes and lyrics.

Sailing Sunbird they were all together dynamically beautiful. Waters and Gilmour, despite their differences, created magic. Both of them together created something so utterly unique that it’s not there when they’re solo.

In 1987, I was in college and one of my best memories was me and my roommates rented the movie The Wall and bought a bunch of Captain Morgan. We got drunk while watching that crazy movie. What a trip. I will never forget it. Thank you.

Speaking of trip, 1981 or so when the animated movie was first released into theaters there was a midnight showing at the local theater so me and 2 friends made plans to go and we dropped acid around 10pm but 1 of my friends got his ass kicked about 30 minutes before we went to the theater, had a swollen eye the size of a golf ball and he tried to bail but me & my other friend carried him to the theater with his arms over each of our shoulders and to our shock there was a cop standing next to the girl selling tickets to the show. Needless to say I didn't miss the show.

Did the same thing with a bunch of friends in the late 80s instead of rum we all ate a bunch of shrooms. Talk about a life altering experience. Got a small peek into the inner workings of the universe that night (and many, many more after that)!!

My favorite song off The Wall. Bought the album when it first came out, bought the cassette tape for the car, and when the brand new compact disk format came out I was in Japan and waited in line to get it. The whole album was mind blowing at the time and their stadium concert was off the charts amazing. I really miss bands like this.
