Only after a point. You can do Railroad, MM, BoS and Institute quests at the same time. They only get exclusive after certain quests get completed, which... makes sense.
@@MerlynMusicmanOnly the brotherhood. And only because they wanted to do it themselves. I wouldn't say people being terrible is bad writing, especially when I often meet terrible people every day.
100% agree, especially since this brotherhood chapter really has no interest in running the commonwealth, they’re set up for a campaign, not a conquest. The minutemen having a direct interest in building up a functional society makes them see the institute as just as big a threat. They could have worked together easily. The minutemen could have supplied the brotherhood with what they needed from their farming settlements and the brotherhood could have gotten to catalog the technology per usual and returned home triumphant leaving the minutemen to happily clean up the mess and build new settlements. Then the brotherhood would have had a strong ally in the east that was happy to report technological interests to the brotherhood in return for the muscle to come get rid of it
Originally, they would have had Maxson and Kells congratulating you for destroying the Institute with the MM, even though Kells mentions it was reckless to do so with the MM, Maxson will promote you to Sentinel. I’m assuming Bethesda cut it out bc then people wouldn’t go for the Brotherhood ending.
@ Yeah I could have sworn I saw the ending for my first playthrough but when I did it again a few months back, I didn’t get this scene and was wondering if I imagined this scene or not all those years ago 💀
@@meydintorki You mean you put that many hours into the game and didn’t go with the BoS? It’s all personal preference, friend. I almost always do brotherhood ending myself. My headcanon was always that, with a Minutemen ending, the Brotherhood gets very cautious about their handling of the Commonwealth, suddenly quite aware they are no longer pacifying a zone and occaisonally running into militia but are surrounded by a military force with battle hardened grunts, popular support and plenty of scavenged hardware. Of course, i run both We Are the Minutemen and Militarized Minutemen, so this basically becomes my reality.
WATMM and Militarized MM are two must haves on every load order I do. It doesn't make them as advanced as the Brotherhood, but seeing increased patrols, squads walking around, and gear that resembles some Vietnam-80s stuff just fits so nicely. One of my favorite moments running this mod was being to the northeast in whatever town is up there, and hearing gunshots. I started moving to them, but when I heard a minuteman shout something I started running since I was used to having to save the MM from almost any encounter in higher level areas. I got a frontrow view of a level 60 something minuteman in heavy gear with a gasmask and helmet throw an assaultron down on the ground and execute them with an M60. Really made me feel like the MM were a proper militia force in the Boston area.

I read that there is a console command you can input to get Maxson to actually respond as the devs intended (but for some reason, can't due to this bug).
