  • We completely upfit this LCM-8 Landing craft purchased from the US Navy in Jacksonville, FL. Had a blast working in St. Augustine and used alot of great marine products like the new Garmin screens & radar.
Make sure to follow along with all the new journeys in the Abaco Islands we will be having over the next year including landing craft videos, rebuilding broken machines and generators, building structures, and so much more.

We used to use those in marine construction as small tugboats, and dredge tenders.
There are two things that I’ve noticed on your vessel that I would change.
First your water pick up strainers for engine cooling are bronze which will set up an electrolysis situation on a steel hull like yours. You are better off fabing new ones out of steel and puting them on the sides of the boat below the waterline protected by rub strakes. That way, when you are in shallow water, they won’t pick up sand and debris or be blocked completely and overheat your engines.
The second thing is I noticed is both propellers appear to be right handed. Boat will maneuver better with left and right hand props. Inboard turning is better in shallow water but outboard turning is better for towing.
    Have fun!

If you get oxalic acid crystals and mix them in hot or warm water and put it in your bilge it will turn that rust into a black paintable coating.

    Fantastic job Skipper 👏
I just toured the Battleship New Jersey while it was in drydock. With a full displacement of 57,540 tons, it used a little bit more paint than yours 😅

FYI. It’s not rope. It’s lines. The thing on the bow is the ramp not the door.
The compartment in the stern is the lazerette. The lashing on the cover is small stuff.

@@brentlance2379 , do you happen to know Allen Misplay ? he should be working in the engine department there at JGR. there was an explosion in the testing room? or dyno room, not sure, been a while back now, but he was the one working on it at the time. anyway grew up with him in Auburn Calif ,our folks were good friends, dads were volunteer firefighters, belonged to the Auburn jeep club etc.his brother Bill passed away not to long ago, but he and another guy were my pitmen when i had a hobby stock back in 1980-81. tried to get Allen involved to as he was a race fan, but stock cars have fenders, so he wasnt gonna go near a stock car, but when Bill bought my car, Allen then worked on it,Bill went to sprint cars. i stopped, i was going to a superstock, all on dirt, but the car i was going to buy got totaled the last night of the season, and i decided to move on to another hobby as just the two years in the hobby stock broke me and my family werent supportive of my racing. then years later i overheard my dad telling his buddy,, yeah Davey was damned good, was called a natural by several seasoned drivers and an announcer said it as well. im bragging, but i was good. anyway, let me know if you knew him or of him?
