Nine's Wide World of Sports is a long-running sports anthology brand on Australian television that airs on the Nine Network and streaming service Stan. All major sports, events, and series covered by the network are broadcast under this brand, the flagship sports being rugby league, rugby union, and tennis. It was first known as National Nine Sports in 1977. The first episode of Nine's Wide World of Sports premiered in 1981.

The "fluorine atom" wide world of sports ident from the Eighties bought back some nice nostalgia.
I love the powerful fanfare of the 1982-1991 version.
Yeah same here. Sorta funky to me because of the guitars. I love it.
Aaaahhhh the familiar sensation of disappointment when this would come on. All I wanted to do was watch more Saturday Disney but dad haaaaad to watch the sports. Theme song slapped though.
I don’t blame ya. My Dad was the same.
I loved the ones in the 90s that used the sound effects eg: revving car or bike meant F1 or 500cc motorcycle racing.
I will say the later ones in the 2000s to now feel like an indication that 9's sports coverage was slipping

This reminds me of STW9 sports legend, the late Bruce Walker.
The first one is super rare...holds up well today. (I assume it's part of the ABC US idents package from 1977.)
It's Brian Bennett - 'Capital City' from the famous KPM library that produced so many awesome themes and intros for ads, shows and especially sport of that era. Brian Bennett also did the cricket intro 'New Horizons'. Awesome drummer too.
