Idk I’ve only taken methadone about a dozen times and never kicked it and my knowledge about it is limited. But at the end of the day you’re going the better route, the same route I should be doing. It’s cheaper, safer, LEGAL, more addictive perhaps lol, and most importantly able to work on getting life back together or at least more manageable 👍🏼.
Same unfortunately.....I am currently tapering off and I've been TRYING to for about 2.5 years. It's crazy how easily they will let u increase your dose but fyi: the rule is u have to see the Dr. to start decreasing. In my case, they have stopped my decrease for so many random reasons( the hurricane, issues with the computer etc...) I was up to 190 for a little while but I'm finally down to 60. I haven't gone daily since June of 2021. I go 1x a month and RN I am going down 10 a month. That changes after next month...(gets slower ) Anyway I ended up at a methadone clinic bc I was sent by my docs to pain management in 2001 for a back injury then diagnosed w fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and DDD. Spent 14 years going to the same doc. I was OVER having to juggle taking all kinds of pills all day, and my back injury happened when I was 6mths pregnant so I needed and wanted to try and put up w this pain without opiates so It was suggested to me that I go to a clinic. In my opinion methadone probably adds to my pain. It wreaks Havoc on your body and especially teeth sorry it was a novel but I really feel for this guy, and I totally get his situation and how easy it could be to go from living one way to another especially in this day and age when the cost of living is so insane! I really hope that he's able to get into his housing soon! ♡✌🏼
That's very insightful, thank you. I think it's interesting Doctor's can just recommend you a dose and you have to stick with it. Also, I hope they disclosed the teeth thing on day one. I'm sure he also appreciates the support from reading these comments. He's a cool guy, I wish him the best.
@@joannaazar7396 Thank you for that- I know the halflife is SUPER long compared to most other extended release meds. I really appreciate u telling me bc you've been thru it. It's been tooo long! Thx again have a good weekend!😊✌🏼
I relate totally. I have been clean for 8 months, and I have been on Methadone for 10 years. I want to no longer be dependent on it. I was very close to having to live in a tent in the woods last winter. If it wasn't for my ex allowing me to stay with him at the last minute, idk where I'd be. It's a shame when family won't even help bc of things that happened 20 years ago, or bc ur gay. Gotta stop living in the past. I'm HIV positive and there is a program that is supposed to help me with housing through UPMC but the caseworker refuses to put me on a caseload. It's discrimination against me personally.
@@loveislove4879sounds like u have relapsed a few times, 8 months clean is not long at all, u still need tobe on something. U gotta be clean for a few years atleast before thinking about getting off methadone. U gotta goto counseling, group and go see psychologist to get to the root of the problem. All avenues that r available free. There are routes u can take to be a good member to society, like certain jobs u can start working, get on ur feet and everything else will fall into place
he's not getting high. there's nothing else for severe chronic pain except perhaps medical fentanyl patches, but those wear off. (you get accustomed to them and you need to up the dose, then you're subject to fentanuy withdrawal).... you're right he should have housing though.
I hope he gets off the drugs very soon. I can relate with this guy. I had a spinal cord injury back in 2011. I spent years getting surgeries on my spine, which meant years of being on opiates to manage the pain. My last surgery was in 2015. I did not get off the opiates until 2019. I was convinced that I would always need them to manage pain or I wouldn't be able to function. I was scared at the thought of getting off of them and how awful the pain would be. Fortunately I realized the opiates were holding me back at that point. They were an obstacle just like the injury was. I am clean and sober now. I have a feeling this guy will be ok without pain meds too. There are other was to manage pain. Safe effective ways. I pray he gets the help he needs. I can tell you he is no happy or content living like he is. That cycle of drug abuse is no joke. It's hell!!!
Meth withdrawal is so dark. I kicked it and benzo’s cold turkey. I’m pretty sure I almost died one night. I went on a guided tour of hell for real. So crazy and scary. That morning I was still sick and stated that way for a few months but something very dark had left my body. I never went back. I hope dude can get it together. It’s a rough road but it’s worth it.
I can't imagine what it's like to feel sick for months at a time, that's wild. Benzo withdrawals are insane. I can see what you mean by something dark leaving your body. Glad you pulled through brother.
Benzo withdrawl is a nightmare. I know this as well. Four years off the clonazepam but need 2 mg twice a day of diazepam , quetapine and amitriptaline at night to quit the withdrawl. Four years later and I think I will need these meds the rest of my life. Thank God I have health coverage. I feel this guys pain. God bless you.

You’re a testimony that it is possible to live a life off opioids even with back surgeries and fused disks. That’s usually the argument I hear people use for their drug use. “I got in an accident and had back surgery and got some screws in my leg” etc
Yea me 2, we all would probably be dead from fetty without It. It def. saved me and brought me out of the gutter. About 6 months in, I took some Adult classes, got a good job and now I have a house. I got 2 dogs, I am still working on some things personally but life is good

If his methadone dose only lasts 10 to 12 hours then he’s still using heroin. Once you’ve stabilised on methadone, it will keep you going a full 24 hours until your next dose,m you never have to go into withdrawals.
maybe not for severe chronic pain. the dose may be insufficent after 12 hours to reduce severe chronic pain., which is what he uses it for, though it may be sufficient to defray withdrawal symptoms for 24 hrs from fentanyl or heroin.
God I hope they find a place to go. My hubby and I were homeless last year and we were sleeping on the Wisconsin River sandbars and that sucks and being disabled sux al the time.
@@rawnarrative I literally used to work for Supportive Housing and it was so frustrating to try to get housing help for ppl who were homeless in that industry because they didn’t have a care in a world about what was happening to the individual who was homeless. Like the shelters suck, most of them have redic curfews that make no sense for adults who are seeking work and many of them are dangerous and ppl are prone to having their stuff stolen. Yeah, I don't miss being on Methadone one single bit. Tapered from 120mg to 0mg while living in Miami Beach and immediately took off on my motorcycle and rode across the country. Felt like a new man.
it's very hard to get rid of trash when you're homeless and on foot. think about it, would you take a five mile walk to dispose of trash when you're broke, have chronic pain, etc. of course you could bag it and bring it somewhere that's not your camp (but not a proper dumpster or whatever, because htat's considered " theft of service" and is a crime)) so your camp is not trashed. It's also difficult to have it look neat...because you dont have shelves, cabinets, etc...just the ground. If someone ripped all the walls of your house and made all the furniture disappear but left all the stuff, your house would look messy too. That's the situation you have when you have a long term camp with a fair amount of possessions.

You wouldn't die if you came off it cold turkey. Not if you stayed somewhat hydrated and were able to eat a tiny bit. You would just be so miserable that you would feel like you were going to, and you might want to. I knew someone that cold turkeyed methadone in prison after taking a huge dose every day for 35 years plus, closer to 40 actually. Dave was in his mid 60's, and is now clean after prison. They also did heroin their whole life before that. There are plenty of amazing stories. Opiate withdrawal won't kill you if you can stay hydrated and get some food down. The body can take so much more than most people know. Your best bet would be to ween down, that would be easiest. If you like being on it and it's causing no issues than staying on it is absolutely fine. I know people who are on methadone and it causes no negative issues for them. I just wanted to mention that you definitely wouldn't die if you came off cold turkey.

have you ever tried to dispose of your household trash on foot when there is no legal place to dispose it?, or there may not even be any trash container for 2 or more miles? For months on end? also, consider that camps in general look messy because--unlike a house there are no cabinets, so shelves, no storage rooms. Just the ground. My point is that everything you see in the scene is not trash, although some of it certainly is.

As a dope fiend for 22 years and serving prison time for drug related issuez, staying sober is really hard sometimes. I just lost both my parents. I relapsed but then I thought, I tried to honor them in life. I should honor them in death. I took better care of my cats than myself sometimes. I wish this young man the very best ❤ and hope he gets the help he needs and gets back his life.
Exercise is an awesome substitute. It does wonders for the mind and body. Try to keep that up with a decent diet. I love exercising. I lift a lot of weights myself, I go very heavy, and have built extreme amounts of muscle, but I also do it as my meditation for my mind, it's good for that. Your dog is adorable. 🐶
@@lizberry5717 The slower the better, the dose has to catch up to your body when getting off
@@joannaazar7396 Thank you for that- I know the halflife is SUPER long compared to most other extended release meds. I really appreciate u telling me bc you've been thru it. I'm starting to really feel the restless legs but got something for it. I'm OVER methadone but I wonder how my pain is going to be tolerated. I gotta keep busy so I don't focus on any wd feelings . It's been tooo long! Thx again have a good weekend!😊✌🏼
I got myself off of it slowly each month until I was done, so glad I did it
I’m glad you did also
God bless this guy... I've been so close to being homeless a few times in my life. I sincerely hope his situation changes for the better soon!
This is discusting. Our country, the usa is despicable. Noone should live like this and not have any help. He clearly doesnt want to get high.
Tough situation for sure.
@@loveislove4879sounds like you personally have no input, it's ALL somebody else
You are a statistic showing that it is possible. Thank you for sharing that. God bless.

Good Luck Man.
I’ve had 6 back surgeries n been fused 3 times, Jaw broke in 3 places with 3 plates in my face.
I take aspirin n deal with it.
You’re a testimony that it is possible to live a life off opioids even with back surgeries and fused disks. That’s usually the argument I hear people use for their drug use. “I got in an accident and had back surgery and got some screws in my leg” etc
Methadone has saved me for 5 years and is actively saving me now still.
Good to hear it's working for you.
Congratulations!

Keep your head up. Lean on your dog. He needs you and you need them.
Good to hear you two are off the streets. God Bless.
I really wish the government would do its job and just take care of people
Yeah, homelessness is complex and requires attention from multiple angles.
I wish there was A REAL EFFORT from non-profit organizations and the government to keep ppl housed and not just throwing them onto the streets and then throwing them into jail bc they’re on the streets 😡 it gets me so angry
@@rawnarrative I was able to house one person but it took almost 8 months and they were homeless on the streets for most of that time. The shelter that they tried to commute to was hours away and costly to get there and to the place where they received help for getting a housing grant from the government. This person had a mental disability, they couldn’t just go and find work so easily on top of everything else they were going through.

He’s not a horrible human being at all. That said to see him living amongst rubbish is probably a reflection of where his head is at
Most definitely.
it's very hard to get rid of trash when you're homeless and on foot. think about it, would you take a five mile walk to dispose of trash when you're broke, have chronic pain, etc. of course you could bag it and bring it somewhere that's not your camp (but not a proper dumpster or whatever, because htat's considered " theft of service" and is a crime)) so your camp is not trashed.

Do u think this guy isn't using on top of methadone?
Bro said he has narcolepsy but that’s just him nodding from the methadone

Exercise is an awesome substitute. It does wonders for the mind and body. Try to keep that up with a decent diet. I love exercising. I lift a lot of weights myself, I go very heavy, and have built extreme amounts of muscle, but I also do it as my meditation for my mind, it's good for that. Why is there so much garbage all around the area where this guy is camping? I realize he has an addiction but still, hopefully someone will donate to him a box of construction clean up bags
Methadone saves lives!!!
If you need to have a Dog with you, don't put that on an Employer.
I'm sorry but dude has a million excuses and he doesn't want to stop quite yet. I was him for many years on n off. May he find the strength to admit that if he wants to really quit all excuses become invalid. God bless.
I almost died from constipation on methadone
Damn that would have been a shitty way to go out !
If your dose is only lasting 10-12 hours, your dose needs to probably increase. I don't like when people take methadone and still get high bc it gives it such a bad reputation. When taking correctly, it can save lives. Best of luck!
He said a bigger dose makes him fall asleep everywhere because he already has narcolepsy. He only wants enough to not make him sick.
This dude is perfectly able bodied, not in pain.
He did mention his narcolepsy issue and I saw him fall asleep a few times while recording. I hope he gets off the pain meds soon.
Hahahah narcolepsy???? Nodding off cos he's still using 9n top of methadone. There's nothing in methadone to block heroin from working. I've seen people use methadone as water to mix with their heroin for a shot. He's a junkie and a liar. I highly doubt he was every I the armed forces either, can tell by the way he talks and carries himself
I'm homeless and have pink handcuffs too
