ran this race around 1968, never believed I could do it without walking. Ran with JikmDaley(new Ipswich NH) steady running till 5 1/2 mark. Jim said keep going, I can't keep up with you. What an adrenalin shot.! I finished 3rd. Closing hard on the 2nd runner - but didn;t catch him (Angus Wooton) Always enjoyed the views above timberline.
often trained in the mts. three or four days before the race. Train as if you were preparing for a marathon. At that time, the field was about 85 or 90 runners. one of my favorite races.
Richard Clapp (now in Indianapolis). unfortunately no hills here.

Thanks so much for sharing the video, it was great to re-live the race. This was my third time (first was 15 years ago) and it was by far the most fun. I agree, we can't thank the volunteers enough!!! As Roald Amundsen reportedly said "It's a great day to be alive"

Cool video! Enjoyed your other video about the guy's 1st marathon too. Conditions look brutal. Just signed up for the lottery so hoping to get in this year.

Hey, that’s awesome you’re running this year. I mostly focused on Hill repeats at last once or twice a week for a month or so leading up to the race. There’s one particular hill in my town with a 12% grade or so (and roughly half a mile up) with some switch backs… I did repeats on that a bunch

Nice vid. When you said you walked 80 percent of it , I thought to myself that you kind of cheated. Kind of a baby. Maybe you would do 2:10 or so, I said. When I saw your time of 1:47 I was very surprised. I , "ran" most of it and clocked a time of 1:48. I think that your walking is better than my running! I'm sure you could take 10 min off your time if you ran more of the race. Good luck next time.

Haha, yeah, I’m able to hike at a pretty decent pace, but would like to do it again and run more. I was talking with Dave McGillvray before the race and he said he’s run the whole thing and run/walked it and his fastest times were run/walk.

Driving on that road seems highly likely to result in death

Do you need a partner for the run or you can run by yourself too.
