    Hahaha, loved the intro. Still in total disbelief at the finishing banner, it was obviously done with the best of intentions but there should only be one thing at a finish line of a HC: volunteers to keep riders from falling over from sheer exhaustion. Negatives aside, Jeremy is such a character and you guys are hilarious together. Great job on the victory!

    14:50 as a fellow unicyclist, if I got a dollar for every "you are missing a wheel" comment I hear, I'd be rich now. We had a hillclimb at unicycle world champs this year, I managed to overtake a few guys on expensive roadbikes there, which was fun.
    Mt washington looks like a great race, congratulations on your win!

    • @msm624
      @msm624 2 года назад +1

      Pretty sure there's been a uni going up there for over 20yrs

    • @Finnspin_unicycles
      @Finnspin_unicycles 2 года назад +1

      @@msm624 Possible, I've certainly read about it for a while. There has been a lot of discussion if someone could ever be faster up there on a unicycle than they would be on a bike, since theoretically it could be lighter, aerodynamics is a small factor at the slow speeds and the lack of gears is not much of an issue on a hillclimb.
      Just judging by how much more relaxed I am on a bike, I personally doubt it.

    • @msm624

    I miss Mt. Washington; first drove up it back in the late 90's, then vowed I'd hike up it next. Proceeded to do that about 40 times in all conditions (from nice and sunny in the summer to ice climbing in a Nor'Easter into night on Huntington Ravine in the winter). Have even sledded down the Auto Road in the middle of the night, and walked down the Auto Road after photographing the hill climb race years back (that was painful), but never rode up it. I gotta work on that.

    • @GelMibson-u2y

      You savage. Huntington is a graveyard.

    • @drouleau
      @drouleau 2 года назад +1

      @@GelMibson-u2y Yeah, it wasn't on purpose - got stuck for a bit on the lower (ice) pitches of O'Dells Gully and the storm (and night) moved in. The lead climber lost his snow pickets (hit a rock with his pack and dislodged them), so we had to free-climb the snow pitch (second half of the climb - first half is ice) as we had nothing to anchor the rope to....at night, with 40-60+ mph winds and snow hitting us directly. We left Harvard Cabin at 8 a.m., and returned at 12:30 a.m. the next day....all on no sleep, about half a Clif Bar and not even a full Nalgene of Gatorade for the entire outing. I think that was the most physically demanding thing I've ever done, I could barely walk by the time I got back to Harvard Cabin - I had to take a break halfway up a 5-6 foot rise in the trail I was so tired. I haven't ice climbed since. Ned Green died approx. 2 months later when he hit an ice dam while climbing in Huntington. I have a trip report on SummitPost.com which details much more of that climb.

    As briefly as I can -- an extremely fond memory from a first months PGWRE subscriber/viewer -- my best job interview ever consisted of riding in a snowcat (cool enough!) up the the auto road to the Mt. Washington summit in Jan or Feb of 1988, chatting with the folks about running their museum, and then coming back down in the snowcat...except, and I ***ing kid you not, the people riding down with me (weather scientists who'd been on the summit for 10 days straight) waited till we were out of site of the summit buildings, asked the drivers to stop, and pulled these objects strapped to the top of the snowcats off that turned out to be PLASTIC SLEDS and these people, and of course I, rode those things (two sleds each: one for your torso and one for your legs for vague steering control) all the way down that auto road to nearly the bottom. It was completely insane and dangerous and beautiful and it started to get dark and the ice tore holes in the sleds and I'm sure nobody would admit to this now and I had bruises all over my chest, belly, thighs, shins, forearms when I got back to my friends' house in Boston very late that night. So good for you both for conquering that beast and for summoning a great memory of a physically and mentally taxing event.

    Looks like a good time was had by all. I've got a few more pounds to lose (196lbs right now, down 30lbs so far), and if I lose them all from cycling, I'll be a much better climber once I do. I'm also building a gravel bike for climbing, because I've got to do it with some comfort on account of my blown-out back. One day I dream of doing some actual mountain climbs like this though.
