FYI - Fires of Winter is the prequel to Hearts Aflame by Johanna Lindsey and tells the parents story. There’s also a sequel, Surrender My Love, which tells Selig’s story (the brother). All three books in the series are great, so is Secret Fire, although that’s a stand-alone story, not part of a series.
Yes wonderful books. She is one of my favorite authors...I've several and have read most if them over the years. Getting ready to read Love Me Forever...😍🥰🤟
The series The Gift is in starts with a book called lions lady. The romance leading up to The Gift is called Guardian Angel and it is also a pirate romance.
@@PeaceLoveBooksxo Yes I would . They would make more sense because there are references to the others in the gift. Characters also appear from the first two books. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.
Honestly I love The Lions Lady but it does not really need to be read before reading Guardian Angel or The Gift but you really need to read Guardian Angel before The Gift. It is part of The Crown Spies Series along with Castles which is amazing as well.
Please try something by Judith E French. She writes this genre usually set in the early America time period. Her female characters are so well written.
I really like The Bride Necklace series (3) by Kat Martin. Amanda Quick, Julie Garwood and Johanna Lindsey are definite staples on the older HR. Since you read Heather Graham's, Pirates Pleasure 2 and are going to read Sweet Savage Eden 1, you need to check out the 3rd book in the Cameron series Love Not a Rebel. From there you go to her Cameron Civil War trilogy. She is also known as Shannon Drake. Bride of the Wind has some pirates in it and Every Time I Love You is another good one where the past and the present merge.
Yes to Amanda Quick.🥰 I hope you enjoy Deception! Secret Fire is a Johanna Lindsey standalone set in 1844 England and mostly Russia. The H is old Russian aristocracy. He's never been told no, so he has the heroine dosed with overwhelming aphrodisiac to get what he wants when she continues to say no after he kidnaps her. Fires of Winter [1980] is the Viking book about the parents of Kristen Haardrad (the heroine from Hearts Aflame[1987]). Fires of Winter is not a favorite, and does not get the re-reads that Hearts Aflame does. Recommend skipping Fires of Winter, and instead trying Surrender My Love [1994], which is the book about one of Kristen's brothers, Selig, and his Viking lady, Erika.
I agree with you about Fires of Winter. Their daughter's book was certainly better and I'm happy I read that first all those years ago otherwise I would have skipped Hearts Aflame
I love these old school romances! I actually read them when they were 1st published which gives you a clue as to my age. I have read some on your list but will check out the others. Two I might suggest are Ashes in the Wind by Kathleen Woodiwiss set in New Orleans during and right after the Civil War, and Deceive Not My Heart by Shirlee Busbee set in Louisiana around the War of 1812. Both have lots of historical detail and many real historical figures. I know there is controversy about these older romances, but I miss the character and story development. Always love hearing your recommendations.
I first read Ksthleen Woodiwiss back in the 70's. The Wolf and the Dove...Fabulous book set back in 1066 when Normandy invades England...Then yes most definitely Ashes in the Wind...Then a myst bvb read is Shanna...
Biiiiig thumbs up for whitney,my love and where passion leads. Lisa kleypas is the love of my life and judith mcnaught is also pretty good with her writings. I loved whitney my love
So many great choices. I am so happy for you. Delve into the Older Romances. You won't be sorry. Next move onto Small (The Kadin, Love, Wild and Fair, Skye O'Malley), Henley, Canham, Gellis, Deveraux (The Velvet Saga), Mallory Burgess... Happy Reading. :)
I love all those Julie Garwood books and the gift goes with four books altogether. There’s definitely a book before this where you meet Nathan and it’s called. Castles. As well as the Lions lady and Castles. Part of her Spies series. I love them almost as much as I love her Highland books.
I recently found Stormfire by Christine Monson in german translation (my native language). Usually I read romances only in english, but I'm very curious for that book and since the english one is so expensive, I settled for the german edition and will read it in 2022. The Johanna Lindsey one sounds great, I definitely will pick that up.
All of these are all great books! Makes me want to re-read some of them. Deception is my all time favourite of AQ's, the heroine is so fun! Johanna Lyndsey has some great pirate stories. You didn't choose any Jude Deveraux's on your list....the Velvet series by her is a great read. Happy "old school" reading 😉
To Have and To Hold is book two of Gaffney's Wyckerley Trilogy. I have it, but haven't read it yet. I read the first book in the trilogy years ago, To Love and To Cherish. It's very good. The hero's a minister/reverend, whatever title they use. The last book is called Forever and Ever -- another book I have but haven't read. If you like angst and questionable relationships, you might look into Autumn Rain by Anita Mills. I loved it. It was very sexy and pulled at the heart strings.
Same re: Heather Graham, Julie Garwood, and especially Amanda Quick. I’ll be curious to hear your opinions on all of these. I haven’t read many old school romances. I started with Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas and went from there.
These are legit 2022 HR goals. 🤭🤭 I have avoided old HR for the longest time even though I love Lisa Kleypas. However, I have tried old HR by Mary Balogh, Julie Garwood and Amanda Quick. But this year I too am planning to read this is called problematic old HR. These are really helpful recommendations. 😇😇
I am so glad you are reading Julie Garwood. Her older Historicals are so good. You will love The Gift. But if I can recommend a really good historical it is Lorretta Chase “Lord of Scoundrels “. It is hands down the best romance book I have ever read.
I really want to go do the "reading the books from the year I was born" but I'm scared of old school historicals from the 80s (I've heard rather mixed opinions lol) x
The Heather Graham trilogy you are reading, A Pirate’s Pleasure, those 3 are all great. Since you’re loving shipboard/ pirate romances and you want Old School, try Karen Robards book Island Flame. Another book that is pretty much divided into 2 camps love it or hate it.
Lions and Lace is one I've been wanting to read for a long time. Curious to see what you think when you get around to reading it. I always look forward to your Historical romance videos!
I enjoyed Lions and Lace, which I read ages ago, but I understand why people have a problem with it today. I did like the sister's story in Fair Is the Rose better. If you enjoy To Have and To Hold, I also would highly recommend Night in Eden by Candace Proctor, which sounds like they are somewhat similar. Petals on the River by Kathleen Woodiwiss is an old school romance that doesn't have some of the problems that older books can have. It's just a nice romance, but of course, written in the Woodiwiss tradition of a long read.
Two things the author changed in Whitney, My Love when it was reissued in hardcover in 1999 are: the one rape scene was altered to make it clear Clayton didn't rape Whitney and the scene where he puts her over his lap and spanks her as punishment for her hitting his horse with a riding crop was cut out. The 1999 edition is the one that's still in print and all printings of it have the same cover.
I love how you're diving into Garwood. It's almost irreversible once you get into her. The Gift is hella cute 🥰, you'll love it. Whitney, my love is angsty than a mf. So much so that for me it was almost too drawn out. But that's McNaught for you.. I wish you'd read Something Wonderful already
I think Secret Fire is a separate book in the series because Fires of Winter is the parents story. It’s the first book in the series I think? But there are some trigger warnings for sexual assault
I'm begging you to do a dedicated video solely for Stormfire. It's a heavy, magnificent read that made its rounds on the internet in the early 2000s. The author committed suicide in 2003.
Loved the Gift by Julie Garwood, and Deception by Amanda Quick. Can’t go wrong with Lisa Kleypas, I wish they would republish that one! Whitney, my love I read years ago and all I remember is that it’s very angsty. A lot of misunderstandings and just too drawn out. All the books I read by Judith Macnaught were like that so I just stopped reading them.
Have you read anything by Robin Schone? Her books are usually set in Victorian England and are very erotic romance with some darkness and a few confronting scenes; so not for everyone. Published from 1995 to around 2010. There are mixed reviews for them, but I gave every one I read 5 stars. Most are available both as e-books and print. "Awaken My Love", "The Lady's Tutor", "A Lady's Pleasure", "The Lover", "Gabriel's Woman", "A Man and a Woman" are my favourite. (There are a couple I haven't read - LOL). Several are in KU. Also try Lynsay Sands, she writes such fun Historical romance and has a huge back list. Also Danelle Harmon is fabulous and all of her books have been repackaged and are on KU.
Stormfire literally made me feel physically nauseous:((( I can suspend my standards and morals partially for fictional relationships and morally grey love interests but I just couldn’t. It was way too much.
That p. Gaffneu is the wrong one, i love almost all her books but that one is no fun... "Sweet Everlasting" is the high water mark for p. gaffney IMHO😋
“Whitney, my love” has been so unpleasant to me. The hero is too aggressive and obsessive and the misunderstandigs between the protagonists are forced and predictable. I was so disappointed as it was so well ranked. Since then I didn’t read any other Judith McNaught’s book and I don’t know if I will ever do. Instead “The Gift” is one of my Julie Garwood’s favorite books. Besides I like almost every book she wrote. I’m so sad I read them all. I wish she will someday write other historicals.
I get so excited when you mention Garwood, she was my gateway to romance back in the '90s and The Gift was one of my favorites! 😍
I’m so excited to read more from her!!
I was read all Julie garwood and Judith Macnaught Historical romances . All are very good.
I definitely meant to choose Fires of Winter for this vide 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ thanks for letting me know!!
Yes wonderful books. She is one of my favorite authors...I've several and have read most if them over the years. Getting ready to read Love Me Forever...😍🥰🤟
All great books. You also need to get your hands on some early Linda Lael Miller. She's fabulous!
Agreed on early Linda Lael Miller. Love her stuff, expected early stuff before she went full cowboy. Also, Jo Beverley and Victoria Thompson.
Catherine Coulter's Sherbrooke series is DIVINE!
Yes and so is Jude Deveraux's Velvet series. I read those all around the same time and all well worth it!
Ahhhhhh I want to reread Whitney, My Love so bad! My all time favorite read and my first romance I ever read!
The series The Gift is in starts with a book called lions lady. The romance leading up to The Gift is called Guardian Angel and it is also a pirate romance.
Would you recommend I read them in order?
@@PeaceLoveBooksxo doesn't really matter. I didn't and it didn't affect my experience
@@PeaceLoveBooksxo Yes I would . They would make more sense because there are references to the others in the gift. Characters also appear from the first two books. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

Am all for amanda quick.got 3 lines up here for my christmas reads.
You will love Catherine Coulter.! Happy reading, you picked some good ones.
I love how old the covers look!!
Constance O'Bannon was my favorite author when I was in my teens( I'm 46). You should read September Moon by her.
I own a bunch of her books!
Looking forward to check out that Amanda Quick title as well!

I definitely meant to have Fires of Winter in this winter. I have heard lots of mixed things, but I do want to read it after loving Hearts Aflame!
Deception is still my favourite by AQ..such a fun read!
I love these old school romances! I actually read them when they were 1st published which gives you a clue as to my age. I have read some on your list but will check out the others. Nice colour 👌 the sweat shirt.
You should do Rosemary Rodgers, Beatriz Small, Laurie McBain, Valerie Sherwood are the greatest in the genre.
I recently found Stormfire by Christine Monson in german translation (my native language). Love love Garwood mcnaught the best and Johanna Lindsey!!!

So many good ones on this list! Secret Fire was my first Johanna Lindsey read, it’s actually a standalone and I was entertained.
I read Lion and Lace a long time ago and enjoyed it but I don't remember what it was about. I need to read it again.

Oh I do own Autumn Rain! I’ll have to add it to my tbr!
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on these!
The only one I have read is Where Passion Leads, and I couldn't get behind the lack of consent.
I know mines not a super old author, but I love “The Rake” from Suzanne Enoch! I loved the whole series in general!
More Amanda Quick! ❤️🥰
Yessss 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Also A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux. One of my fav!
I can’t wait to hear how you feel about them all once you’ve read them!

Splendor by Catherine Hart. Pirate who is affected by St. Elmo's Fire. Only h can see him. Fun reading

I gave lions & lace 5 stars. I listened to it on audio about 2 months ago. Loved Trevor!

I need to read to Ravished by Amanda Quick.
Fires of Winter is the book before Hearts Aflame. Secret Fire is a standalone. 😊
Yeah, I got those two mixed up 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I have such a soft spot for Judith McNaught because she was one of the first romance authors I ever read.
I'm begging you to do a dedicated video solely for Stormfire. It's a heavy, magnificent read that made its rounds on the internet in the early 2000s. The author committed suicide in 2003.

Iff u love Heather Graham you'll love her new books were she goes by Shannon Drake Come The Morning is really good.
I had no idea they were the same author!
Maggie MacKinon I read that book a about the gilded era of New York City I think that maybe Joanna Shupp read it.
Can you read a book by Laura Lee Guhrke
I do want to read her books eventually!

What kind of Book Shelves do you have? I like them.
They’re from Walmart!

Anything by Virginia Henley...Very racy and explicit...
