This is arguably her most vocally challenging album. And that says a lot considering how much she delivered in her 15 years of career at that point. I love this album with all my heart. My top 3 are Shake It Off, Stay The Night and Fly Like A Bird.
@@cameronburgess4955 stay the night is literally impossible to sing live 😭 and having her belts have no vibrato I'm pretty sure emancipation takes the cake
"All hail and bow to Mariah Carey, The Queen of Divas, Protector of the vocal skills from the realm, Archiduchess of Vocal range/registers, Empress of agility, The unmatched, The Mellisma mother, The Goddess of Songwriting and producing, The one often imitated, but never duplicated, The embodiment of pure success",. My simpleton ears are not worthy of your talent but a simple sung phrase will be enough to heal me for all eternity.
Shake It Off was going to be a number one single to but it was blocked on the billboard charts by We Belong Together (which remained number one for 14 weeks her second longest number one after One Sweet day (16 weeks number one)).
i love "the emancipation of mimi"! it's a solid body of work that contains a beautiful mixture of 00s club vibe and a 50s/60s-esque old school croony ballads. her vocals are STELLAR, the production and musicianship is amazing, and lyrically.... need I say more? mariah was done with the haters and she was like, "ok so yall r gonna cancel me now? lemme remind you who i am just in case the 15 #1s weren't enough 4 yall lmao"
I think in 2005 rasp and dramatic belts becoming the new trend was perfect for her even in 2008 her vocal condition just happens to fit in with the trend the breathy 2000’s sound for charm the rasp and sas for 2005 emancipation and the getting older but still got what these new girls dream of aesthetic for 2008 with the T pain energy
Mine Again although it was never released as a single it was nominated for a Grammy and used in the popular Intel Processors Centrino marketing campaign. This song is a testament that her vocal skills go beyond just whistling and low notes, she is a great belter.
Love your reaction to this album👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 “Mine Again” is my emotional spirit animal!!! “Fly Like A Bird” is her best gospel influenced song to date and vocal suicide to sing. “Joy Ride” speaks to a kind of love I hope to find.
The most charming thing about Emancipation album is the passion in her singing. I know she considered her writing the first and foremost. But her singing is what really made her Mariah Carey.
I think after Butterfly, this is one of her best and most important album ever. To the public, she was over and almost erased but she had to prove (AGAIN) who she was and she delivered (in my opinion) one of the best album of 2000's. The Emancipation of Mimi is a masterpiece but beyond this, a proof that Mariah is a pefect exemple of resilience. There is no one in this industry that can even think to dare to touch her feet. PERIODT
Give Joy Ride another chance pleeeaaaassse! It's one of the most beautiful songs somebody has ever created! Lol just kidding! I love this song to my bones. 4real I really enjoy every reaction of yours. You're so genuine! So lovely! I'll stay tuned for more! 😉 Love and peace from Brazil! 🇧🇷
I saw you, I saw Mariah, I clicked faster than the speed of light lol! You're laughter and your smile kill me every time, even your "ugly" facial expressions! 🙃
The fact that I imagined your exact reaction on Mine Again!!! Those are some powerful and yet raw vocals! I love this album, my favs are We Belong Together, Don’t Forget About Us, One And Only and Mine Again! Don’t keep us waiting too long for E=MC2 lol! Jk Thanks for the reaction, Jonny!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎊🎉
i just discovered your channel, and i'm actually watching your mariah series in reverse. almost like a countdown. one thing that i appreciate is the way you listen to music. this is my second favorite mariah album and my top three tracks are "mine again," "circles," and "stay the night." she truly made a well crafted body of work that is full of liberation.
Her 2nd best album after Butterfly for me, and for most lambs I think. People called it the return of the voice. She rebuilt her voice on the Charmbracelet tour just before recording this album, and I even like her voice better on that tour than some of this album. I know it’s not what you normally react to but I would recommend watching her performance of Vision of Love at Zurich 2003
This album is BOP 💖 Huge Masterpiece Love your reaction, one of my most favourite Mariah's album You are so rightt in the mention about the similarities between Circles and Mine Again, which i also really love 💖 Her vocal was - like they said - straight singing, the return of the voice, that was so huge at that time
This is definitely one of Mariah's best bodies of work and definitely the best of the 2000s. After Mariah's breakdown and her situation with her ex husband and Virgin Records people were starting to write Mariah off as if her singing career was over. But of course Mariah had to prove the haters wrong. The Emancipation of Mimi is Mariah going back to her heyday and delivering some of her strongest vocals while also giving us a new sounds that you hadn't heard in her previous albums. Retro Soul, contemporary R&B, Motown (Emotions had some of these elements too). People were saying that her voice wasn't the same and that she had lost her ability to belt which of course was BS because she delivered on Glitter and Charmbracelet but on this album she shut the critics down. She delivered her strongest vocals since the mid 90s. She collaborated with many producers such as the Neptunes & Kanye West. She wanted the album to have an old school live instrument sound to it so that's why a lot of the songs have live instrumentation rather than synthesizers. She received several Grammy Awards for this album and garnered two number one hit singles (We Belong Together and Don't Forget About Us). This is the album that introduced me to and made me of fan of Mariah's. Once I heard this album I was obsessed and have been a Lamb since. This album inspired me to take singing seriously. I always loved singing and music but when I heard her voice on this album I had never heard anything like it. This album has had an impact on many new artist and the music industry. I wish you would have listen to the song When I Feel It which was a song that was supposed to be on the album but never made it. It has an old school 70s sound. Its sounds like a Jackson 5 kind or record and she sings her face off. It really could have fit well on the album for sure.
@@jonnyreacts Yeah I forgot to tell you that on Mine Again you are right about that high note at the end. She hits a F#6 for the long note and at the very end jumps up an octave to F#7.
This is probably my second favorite album - it's kinda difficult to choose between this, Emotions and Daydream. My favorite tracks are We Belong Together, Circles, I Wish You Knew, Joy Ride and Fly Like A Bird. This album is such a solid album from start to finish. I usually don't skip any tracks - besides To The Floor and Your Girl - because each track compliments each other, and the transition between each song is seamless.
On Get Your Number, Nelly was actually supposed to be doing JD's part ...which would make more sense as that's Nelly's usual flow, not JD's. I forget what happened, I think JD wrote Nelly's part and laid the vocal references which is what's on the final product. But IDK why Nelly didn't make it
Hi ♡ I don’t know if you take requests, but if you do, I love the self-titled debut album by singer LÉON. It's crazy to think another 15 years have passed since TEOM, 2005 seems sooooo recent. My girl has prevaled thru some hard times, soo proud of her
I still think Daydream is her most difficult, but songs like “I wish you knew” and “Fly Like a Bird” make it close
