    I had trouble getting a spark plug for the same machine . I went to Lowe's Home Depot advance auto and auto zone no one had that type plug in champion or ngk I had to order one if it may help you the same plug in champion brand is ry4c. The ngk or torch number is cmr7a If you find a plug that looks the same size but the first letters are different don't use it I found out those first letters on ngk or torch plugs means the threads are different and different pitch so make sure tide first letters are what you want

    hey arch, i use to love working on small engines. i see a lot of these having belt problems. you would think ryobi would be smart enough to make the gear on the cam shaft to have both sides with a lip. that would keep the belt from jumping time, but then again how would they make any money. as we all know, its cheaper to buy a new one than spend the same amount to fix. unless you know small engines and if you do not, we always have you. good video.

      Double lip, great idea but maybe problem getting belt over that lip. The problem is the cam bearing going bad. If the cam bearing is good the belt rides perfect. And yes, a new one is cheaper if you have to pay someone to fix it. I know how to fix these but to take the total engine apart including the crank to replace a belt is a joke, not worth it!!

    The 4-stroke piston gets its lubrication from the bottom oil splashing off the crank shaft similar to all 4 strokes. If it sucks in oil into the carb it will smoke like heck. My s430 was run low or out of oil before I got it and ruined the piston rings so that creates blow by into the crank case which blows allot of oil out of the top valve train and into the breather line going to the air filter housing and why mine has so much oil in and around the air filter and entering into the carb and getting burned and creating huge smoke. My engine is trash, and of course the cam bearing is trash also with oil blowing out of that bearing and all over the belt and front of engine. With no blow by the crank case breather lines would work fine. And thanks for the great video!!

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  3 года назад

      Take a look at the sequence again; I adjusted the Curb Idle Screw (throttle angle) this sets the idle speed by opening up the throttle blade.
      It may need re adjustment later then adjust the fuel / air adjustment screw (packman) in the video.
      This controls the fuel and air delivery and its really handling both the idle circuit and high speed.
      I like to leave it a bit rich.
      Most 4 stroke trimmers are like this. It runs well and doesn't miss a second/separate screw,,,

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  2 года назад +1

      It depends on the lifter design; this little guy has a solid lifter.
      I ran ROADS lifters for a time on my 283, it loved them but they must be lashed to work properly.
      Generally with hydraulic lifters ya put a lash on them when installing them for the 1st time. But the recommended way is to look down at the lifter keeper lock and just depress the plunger enough so that its off the lock (Preload).
      This is a must for most Hi-Po lifters.
      I didn't get this right once and when the lifter floated it popped that keeper ring and it went down into the engine..

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  3 года назад +1

      sure,,, take some 2 stroke fuel then mix in about 1/3 of the amount of tranny fluid
      The gas itself is a very good vehicle, it will wick in the 2 stroke oil and the tranny fluid.
      Tranny fluid is very good as a lubricant and its has a lot of detergent in it.
      Why gas? Why not, all lubricant vehicles are flammable but gas evaporates quickly leaving the oils behind!

      @@TheNovaJohn I use the Ryobi full crank two stokes/string trimmers, cheap and do a great job and last years, EXCEPT FOR THE COILS but coils are cheap and easy to install. Only other problem is the crank bearing on flywheel side wears out after severe usage, but it still runs if you move the coil away from the flywheel a bit so flywheel doesn't hit the coil because of the bearing play. I have my workers using these units at full throttle 8 hours a day for years. But we mix 20 to 1 gas to oil which I think is mandatory for any 2 strokes.

      what ya don't like it? At the time I had one camera. Camera gear is expensive! Over the shoulder shots don't always work either. In front there isn't enough room and you wont see what I see. I'm still new at this.

    I have ten 2 stroke Ryobi full Cranks. When they are working, they are great. I have a golf course in Mexico and girls running the Ryobi's and after about 6 months max. they quit. I dug them all out the other day and started the investigation, all have bad ignition coils. These trimmers look close to new, and all coils are bad. Compression, carbs, etc. all perfect. The coil to flywheel clearance is fine on all of them except for 3. The fuel filters go bad fast including the primer bulb so make sure you have spares along with fuel line and spark plugs. Another common problem is the crank bearing on flywheel end goes bad and the coils can actually start rubbing on the flywheel so if you see your coil scrapping the flywheel, the crank bearing is probably trash. 3 of mine have this problem. You just grab the flywheel and pull it up and down, if it moves, it's junk. I will say for the money and time mine have lasted; they are worth it. The girls run them full bore/throttle all day long. I run 20 to 1 fuel to oil. 50 to 1, they won't last long.
    Anyways, pulled out my S430 4 cycle trimmers. I have one early model which is total junk because of plastic cam shaft which melted. Plastic cam on top of engine, the hottest place, are they nuts? The other has the metal cam and going through it today. They have a common problem with the cam bearing closest to the gear belt drive going bad and the cam/gear drops down making the belt loose and it either skips gear teeth or rides off the gear. Another problem is the engine sucks in oil from the crank case breather tubes and smokes like hell and covers the air filter with oil, and trashes the spark plug fast. Forget replacing the belt, way too much work, not worth it. If the cam bearing is worn out, the motor is junk. Why they don't install better bearings on the cam is beyond me. And the oil pans tend to leak. I will say when it is running it is a great trimmer. Starts on the first pull always. And no mixing gas and oil. And you can't tip these 4 strokes sideways at all, they will start to smoke big time. And you have to store them sitting flat, you can't hang them on the wall or laying on their sides, the oil will work its way into the cylinder so you will have to pull the plug and blow the oil out and refill the oil pan. The girls don't like the 4 strokes because they are too heavy for all day work. The girls have 5000 feet of fence line to weed eat and around many trees and plants 6 days a week. I can't find any of these tiny tiny spark plugs for these 4 strokes in Mexico. Why could they not use a normal size spark plug? come on!! The 2 strokes have a lot more power and RPMs so much faster at weed eating. The chain saw attachment you have to run the 4-stroke full throttle and still doesn't compare to the 2 strokes for cutting wood or branches and again you have to keep the 4-stroke level which is hard to do when cutting tree branches. A neighbor has a diesel string trimmer that has run for years and years, need to find out what brand it is?

      Great Info so I Pinned this to the top of the posts!
      Almost sounds like we need to run a but of oil in the gas!
      All Good to know!
      I see these as basic homeowner machines that require yearly oil changes. Since they hold so little oil, it needs to be checked constantly.
      For the price, its good power and fairly reliable when used as a homeowner rig.
      I love my Stihl! Link Below!!!

      Got my bought used: S430, 4 stroke running, new fuel line, filter, and plug. Filled it with 40W oil and a dash of Moly which eliminates all wear. I disconnected the valve cover breather tube from the air cleaner because I don't want it sucking oil into the air filter and engine trashing the plug and smoking like hell. Let it run at fast idle for 30 minutes and it pumped out all oil out of the front cam bearing next to belt gear/pulley. What a mess because the flywheel fan blew the oil all over the engine on all sides and top. Belt was running on 1/2 the cam gear so pulled belt off and sure enough, cam bearing shot/could move it up and down a lot. So, engine is junk. Sad because the engine runs fantastic and smooth with great throttle response and power. Unit looks brand new but junk. If I get a new one, I will run 40W and some Moly in the oil which will guarantee 0 wear of anything. Then I will have a good machine. I like the Honda trimmers but not the price. This S430 must have run low on oil before I got it. Seller on eBay said refurbished, Ya right!! Ordered an ignition coil for my 2-stroke full crank string trimmer for 15 bucks and free delivery to Mexico which is fantastic. Will do a test on the new one with OHM meter before I install to get readings. If it fixes the problem, will buy 6 more and get the rest of my 2-strokes going again. Wish there was a kit to fix the cam bearing on S430, I would do that, but I am not drilling out the cam bearing hole to do it, would need a precision reamer to make it perfect and a jig for perfect alignment which I don't have either.

      @@grantmx4742 Really is a nice machine but regardless of moly or any nice additive, they wont live for too long anyway. Its a complicated machine. These just aren't made for any abuse. If in good shape and maintained it will give long life.
      I wouldn't disconnect the breather hose. That small amount of lube it will suck will help it to live longer, plugs are cheap, easy to change and clean but if it trashes the engine for the sake of the plug?

      @@TheNovaJohn Thanks for the reply. I had no choice but to disconnect the vacuum line from valve cover to air filter housing, it sucked in so much oil it was running out of air filter housing and the engine smoked so bad it clouded out my total back yard. Neighbors thought there was a big fire going on, hehehehehe.
