Moving the Huge 30ft long Monarch Lathe into the shop

- Well it is finally time and the ground is frozen so I took the opportunity to drag the 37000lb Monarch lathe into the shop and to get it unloaded. Follow along as I get it slung up on the bridge crane and move it off the trailer, into position and lower it to it's new home. I also cover some other projects and some of the things that need done to it to get it operational. Sorry about some of the actual moving footage not making it as the camera battery went dead, the job took a few hours and in the 20degree temps the camera battery wasn't having any of that. Thanks for watching!!
BigMan..
your shop turning out NICE
ur machine toy collection, never seen anything like that
EPIC
BEST SHOP AND MACHINING CHANNEL ON RUclips BY FAR
Abomb has just been reduced to Firecracker , that is a monster for sure !
Now thats funny!!!
Brian get your ducks in a row and organize a volunteer work day for a bunch of us boys who want to help you get a jump start, it looks like a lot of work. We could finish the walls an ceiling so you can get your place organized. At least it's something to think about. Cheers!
He'd be pulling his hair out, having all them people around. But I think he should take you up on your nice offer. He'd end up feeling glad he did.
You have an amazing shop! I admire your skill and tireless work ethic, you never get discouraged no matter how big the job!
Nice! Glad it made it in the shop safe. Cant wait to see it running.
Steve Summers lots of work to do to get to the running part but I am excited to get there!!
A thousand pound chuck, 16 FEET between centers... , well done, sir. Also, glad to see someone finally using a lead line to control a suspended load rather than putting their hand on it.
Boy, that is one hell of a Lathe!
missing the "hi guys, it's Brian here"
And the "Catch ya'll later."
The week didn’t go well. Lots of disasters and fires to deal with putting out..... lucky I got a video at all.
@@bcbloc02 You done did good. Thanks for sharing.
Brian we may not ever forget the day you dropped the radial drill have always kept great thoughts for you every time you lift anything because of that day, in your case we just keep a few extra good thought when you are lifting or moving anything also because the machinery you have is really large. A crack for us is ok comparing now to back then, nice to finally see this one in the shop.
Active Atom I did not drop the drill it fell!!!
@@bcbloc02 Yes true SORRY but we never got over it so we always think positive for your moves and hey you did save the radial drill that FEEL and that was the best part of that machines history to us. Have a great week.
@@bcbloc02 Glad this did one didn't Fell! :)
You're shop makes Abom79 look like a dwarf more and more each day!
Should be BrianBom.
Brian working automotive stuff,he is on another level being highly educated ...mechanical expert...he work with big stuff and do not like chatter prone machines LOL
There just aren't that many guys with scales to measure well beyond 35 thousand pounds. Holy crow.
And as well, that truck driver knew his business. Calm and easy does it at the drop location.
paul manson Just a couple of old farm boys getting it done!! 😃
Glad to see you had some assistance unloading that beast.
That tailstock likely weighs as much as everything I have in my shop. I'd bet you relaxed a bit once it was off the trailer and sitting on those blocks Brian. :-) A whole lot of sweat, work and money since your first video showing the state of that barn and what you started with. Extremely well done in my opinion.
That lath makes my Logan 1950 look like an Embryo.
Quite a bit of collateral damage, I lost count of how many " I gotta fix thats" I came across. Good luck Brian, I can see the work load does not daunt you. Looking forward to seeing that big fellow do some heavy turning, cheers bro!
I have projects for years!!!! Sadly both time and money are limited...........
My experience being Brian, you can start to get organized, but it never ends! lol
your machines keep getting bigger end bigger, and your shop keeps getting smaller and smaller.. :)
I sure hope they gave you a discount after they dropped it, since stuff got broke. I had to chuckle at the 1000 lb chuck comment, because my whole lathe only weighs 1780. This will be amazing to see running. Shop is coming along nicely! Keep up the good work Sir!
Yes I made them drop the price for the damage.
Beautiful machine, stumbled by your channel yesterday you got a new subscriber, cant can't wait to see her cut. I spy a can of fluid film just bought my first can last week to combat some rust on my truck, so far the stuff is awesome. Keep up the good videos.
JERRY K I use a lot of fluid film. It is good stuff!!
i bet that a good feeling to finally have in shop.
What a monster Brian.
All coming together nicely.
_Dan_
Fantastic progress Brian!
Must have your corn in if you’re working on unloading that big lathe, compressor’s up in loft, truck’s unloaded. Hopefully that makes up for any bad luck this week. Good to see you got some help unloading that bear! That last shot of the lathe in your shop looks good!
One small step for Brian; one giant leap for Bailey kind.
Awesome!
I like that :-)
Hello Brien, Hope Bailey is doing all right. Seemed to be limping in his hips on the opening shot?? Might consider putting a couple of 48000 mini splits in the shop for their heating and dehumidifying as they dump the condensate outside and can add heat in the winter and cool in the summer as a plus. Easy to add more if needed and the price per ton these days with a good SEER number is pretty economical especially considering you can install your own. Impressive Monarch. Take care. Arf to Bailey. Doug
Who makes the longest lasting mini split? Mitsubishi?
Dang Brian I’m from Texas but your tools amaze me lots of hard work ahead
Looking good. May be a good idea to finish up the walls and ceiling and get a fan or two going.
Once I get the walls and ceiling done it will stay warm enough I shouldn't have sweating troubles anymore.
Wow...!!! That went surprisingly good for an almost 20 tons move... The shop keeps on shrinking... FAST....!!!!!! lol
Pierre's Garage the right tools for the job make it go much easier!
Well Brian you do have a bit of work ahead of you but well worth it in the end, take your time and do right first time
Aren't you glad that the crane has nearly new chains!
And new cables!
Shop is starting to come together. Nice to see it.
Oh my Brian, you do have a big one!
new big toys- new big project to fix and do work with. Damn- I am excited.
Very neat! Well done.
Brian Work Work Work. You are awesome!! Now more Work Work Work!! I get tiered just watching your videos. Thanks for posting them. I wait always for the next one you post. Keep it up Brother.
One of the most dreaded things in my life , would be moving my shop .
Seeing that lathe in there makes me want to give you a hand to get it up and running. Enjoying the videos keep up the good work. HUGE MILESTONE!
Hey Brian you win you got the biggest one cant wait to see it running.
I live in Columbus, Ohio. I went to HGR to pick up some stuff and I went looking for that specific machine. You picked it up the day before I was there!
yeah I live west of Columbus and make journeys to HGR ..... its like a kid going to the candy store. Last two trips up I enjoyed seeing the big Binns & Berry ....stuff goes fast at HGR
Getting caught up on vids. Great progress Brian.
No, though spindle on the lathe... I think that's something I would need...But I guess you have others...CHEERS,, The shop is coming along nicely...jelly...
sean tap I can put a 4.5”bar of hot rolled thru the headstock.
@@bcbloc02 Awesome i knew i was missing something..
Damm my man fair play to you, satasfaction must be high
lots of work ahead..but nothing for a Superman .....awesome
It's good to see the fruits of all your labor working out
It is a beast. You need about 3 employee's now.
Randy Richard In The Shop : If he ever has a work day like Keith does, I'll gladly drive the six hours to help him.
Man, Adam will be so envious when you get that thing settled in and up and running!
Why? He has the Pacemaker at work.
At work. Work being the key word.
@@cyrilhudak4568 no he dont have any more ....he dont work there any more ...n o more pacemeker or hbm for him LOL
@@sinkosav You, Sir, are correct. I never saw that coming. Few, I'll bet, did.
Good stuff!!
I am glad to see the move went better than the radial drill went.
Glad you had no hickups during the move. Congrats on the shop progress
,,, glad you got those "flame hardened ways" in where it's warm, congrats .
Now it's a machine shop! It now has a lathe, a milling machine and most every thing else. Do you have much more to get out of your old (basement, correct?) shop? Get the climate in the barn/shop controlled and you'll probably sling a hammock in there for those long nights!
Bob Pegram besides the Johnson saw I have not moved anything out of the garage shop.
That's is a huge machine i can't wait to see some hot chips flying. Love thw vids brian
Looks great. Load test completed on the crane! Shop taking shape with the auction haul. No dropped it jokes to listen to. You've got a big year ahead of you! Thanks for sharing
Yes it can easily handle its 15ton rating. :-)
@@bcbloc02 no doubt, it would be an interesting comparison to see steel dimensions and design on the new versions of that 15 ton crane. I wonder how much your old iron would increase in capacity using current standards.
Well it is cut down in width anyway so the bridge is oversized for capacity. I built all the steel to be able to go 50000lb and I think the hoist would do it too, I know now with the good cables that part could, biggest thing is I would be hanging off the chain and it wouldn't lift. It took a lot to pull the 36K on this one, I think at 40K I couldn't pull it anymore, would just climb the chain. lol
@@bcbloc02 lol sooo you idiot proofed it. That's an awesome design plan!! Hahaa.... I'll have to come check it out get the nickel tour. It's sure turning into a dandy shop.
There is nothing but awesome in this video. What a shop you have put together. Massive move here just massive. wow
Nice shop and equipment
Thanks! It is getting there!
@@bcbloc02 welcome
Looks like you got some good deals at that auction. My Dad and I use to buy machinery at state sales every year. That's where you will find the best deals ever!
Glad to know it's off and undamaged mostly, enjoy everything you post thanks, from the UK.
nice to see that big monarch in the shop and off the trailer now comes the hard part cleaning and repair but if any one can do it you can with baileys help he will be sleeping on the couch supervising it wont be long now you will making chips. I've been watching séance 2014 and it still amazes me how much you have gotten dun thank you
I have enjoyed watching you
Phew! A little planning, and it all went smoothly, it seems.
Betcha that feels good!
I haven't seen many tractor trucks like that since the seventies. Someone maintained it very well. But the biggest plus is; it did the job, no problema!
It only has like 80,000miles so it has stayed in good shape despite being an 88 model.
Can't hardly wait for the chips to fly.
Awesome!!! Your huge shop is shrinking. Just make sure you keep enough room for the boss to roam around for his inspections, lol. Thanks for sharing.
Machine shop will be alive soon!!!! Thanks for the video's From the U/K.
well done brian in out of the cold and looking well at home already
All right, All right, All right , Awl righttt! Awesome...
Looks good Brian ! Glad it made it in without any casualties ! I hate having to deal with the sweating & the mess it makes of things. I'm looking forward to following the clean-up, repairs & the projects you will be doing on that big Monarch ! Always enjoy your videos ! Thanks for sharing & for all the time & work you put into the projects & videos ! Well done Sir !!
Nice machine Brian, Congrats! Cant wait to see it runing
Very cool
That is one kick ass metal lathe. Thanks for posting.
Brian I've been through machine damage to . Then try to get damage payment OH that's another story . Now I get the veary best and PAYMORE .
Boy that looks nice right where it is. Things are moving along nice.
Brian, you are a wonder! I have iron envy, big time.
Nice. Thanks for posting Brian, . I like your Brigadier, along with the rest of your shop.
Cheers
Martin
Alright ! Congratulations. Now this is a big step forward.
When you installed the crane, i thought, nice to have, but he will probably not need 20 tons. Now i know better. A lot better.
You get all the cool toys!
You get all the fun stuff.
Now that's a lathe. :) Good to see it went without fuss.
I love to see a plan come together!
Yep that's a bign. Need the big chains. Another piece of the puzzle done. Winter is in , now the work inside starts. Getr done. Spitn chips by spring out of it. Excellent job.
Great to see you get it in the barn. I'm dealing with the same temperature swing problem in my shop (but on a much smaller scale). I literally watched the little puddles forming that last warm front that came through. Can't wait to see you make progress on the lathe. Thanks for sharing.
I love those tool cabinets. Look like Vidmar. They made the best. I'll be glad when spring gets here. I also am fighting the sweat rust problems. Thanks for sharing.
Brian with all that old metal, fabulous metal, all of it large! I expect that he will start a metal museum and charge us all a dollar to look. LOL
Boy O Boy Brian, that thing is a whopper !!!
I bet once you get that thing up & running, it'll pay for itself in no time.
I bet it's Bailey approved too.
Very nice
That Lathe is a COOL project!!
Huge milestone for the shop, Brian! Congrats! --Aaron
Great stuff Brian !! Thank you for taking the time to share with us !! Be safe and God bless you !!! Eddy
Alrighty Brian glad the ground hardened up enough to get big bad boy in its new home, glad things are coming together. Sixteen feet between centers awesome, I can't remember did you have a steady rest or two? Great video by the way
I don't have the right ones, just that one I bought I think I can adapt.
this is why I watch your chanel!!
Nice. Looking forward to seeing it used on some projects
Thats a serious lathe :O damn :)
Thanks for the video.
Wow! :O
What an awesome machine.
The "barn" looks really good too.
That is one big honking lathe right there. Bet I could chamber a few cannon barrels on that bad boy for a destroyer!!
Brian - When you started building the shop, it looked very big. Today, I think you will need another shop!!! Monarch looks great. Plz don't drop it!
Wow, Brian ! That Is One Big Boy's Toy ! And the chuck weighs the thick-end of half a ton . . .
Looking forward to some Big Boy's Chips. 'S gonna be great !
Good stuff... But have to say ive watched a lot of videos lately and when I hear of all the damage done to machinery being moved its quite sad really . One guy had a Monarch 10ee and a bridgeport mill destroyed by careless haulers .
And it seems “insurance” from shippers is a flat out scam.
Ive seen that too . I know a guy that hauled a big lathe about 2000 miles , then backed up another 3 ft in front of his shop with the belts off , hit the brakes , and it slid off the truck , I was at an auction , and these people bought this lathe , had it loaded in there pick up . Went around the first corner , the ropes broke , it jumped over the side of the truck , on to the bullivard .
Nice piece machinery Brian.
That’s awesome Brian! Can’t wait to see the massive chips fly off that bad boy.
Brian your the BEST !!!!!!
