Meanwhile, my wallet has one debit card, one ID, a card with information about my dog in case of an emergency, and a $20 just in case 😆 Mutt, what are you doing??
As a marine biologist, this episode really made me happy! I'm indirectly involved, as a consultant, in a project on oyster seeding in Singapore coastal waters. I would love to see more content like this. Thank you Mike for showcasing Dr. Mutt Merritt and his work.
Interesting job , I think you offer a service that is needed . This project on the surface is admirable but I feel the problem needs to be taken care off way upstream from those dumping waste , These poor things can’t handle it by themselves , if you know what I mean ! I watched our creeks and river’s get destroyed and polluted back in the late 50’s , with at the time pesticides that we later stopped using , once they found out how bad it was to the environment ! I don’t want to think about the amount of waste that was dumped in the ground before they opened recycling centers in the US ! I enjoy fishing but what I catch goes back in the water because of what I know . You and others like you need to educate and keep fighting for our environment !
As a transplanted Baltimorean, who grew up near the bay, I'm suggesting John Goodman play Mutt when they do a made for TV movie about MIke. I'll leave it up to ya'll to suggest people who could fill MIkes shoes.
Helping nature do what it does best .. Mut has the right idea .. and you can hear in his opening speech just how much it means to him .. his heart is there doing exactly what he is doing .. and it’s these people who will help save our world !!! Thank you for this episode ..
Mobile Bay in Alabama is one of the most biodiverse spots in the nation. I know Dauphin Island research labs have been trying to do this for decades. I wish they could get the funding Chesapeake Bay gets.
@crowdsurferx That's natural. It should be clearer for sure, but never enough to see the bottom. It's an estuary for muddy rivers, after all. Currently, there is so much sediment that the seagrasses can't grow.
Hgffhd I've never seen anyone mention Mobile in a yt comment 😂 surreal. I love Dauphin Island, I got to participate in the sea lab sleepaway camp a couple times as a kid, it was so cool. The people that work there are so passionate. I hope they get the funding they deserve someday!
This man dude this man. I used to stay up late watching him when I was a kid, I used to go to school late just to finish his episode. I don’t know what it is but Mike Rowe has something special he’s a national treasure. He’s the main reason I will be going into trades and try to do all of them throughout my life.
thanks mike for the education. it doesnt surprise me that when humans over fish and pollute the water ways, the ecosystem starts to die. it surprises me that humans dont realize this earlier. businesses just keep consuming!
Hey Mikey. I liked this educational video very much. Mutt's got it right, producing clams for the bay and the bank account. Thank you for all that your team and you do, Mikey! Cheers, Mate.
It's really great seeing someone doing something they love and making a difference in this world. It's an awesome job if you can really find them. Some feel as though the world is their oyster; others feel as though they were the oyster itself, plucked from the ocean, cracked open, and robbed of all that is precious to them.
Absolutely amazing I grew up in the Florida Keys my goal was to become a marine biologist I loved everything about marine life. Instead I became a marine mechanic, aCoast Guardsmen, a police officer, a truck driver and many other things but I never lost the interest in the sea it still amazes me. This is one of my favorites thanks for sharing this.
The oysters in the Chesapeake Bay have actually been a very big issue for people, all up and down the state's coastline in Virginia and Maryland, for decades. Mike is definitely a land lover though, he doesn't love boat life. You can just tell he feels awkward, LOL. Thanks for being a bigger man and showing this line of work, although it makes you feel awkward because it's a job that is science in action, we call can't be the smartest or the strongest, but we can be the most helpful and educational. You've accomplished that mission. Mike. This is a mission that effects the entire world's delicate ecosystem. It really does need to be protected. Thank you for this job.
I was born and raised on the Eastern Shore and grew up on the Chesapeake Bay. Yes, alot of people depend on the Bay to feed their families. My family has made a living on the Bay and various tributaries.
Thank you Mike and a BIG thanks to Mutt. I have lived my whole life in Baltimore and believe our Bay is our best asset. So thankful to see this video and appreciate everyone's help. God knows we need it.
This one was cool. If I'm correct in my family history, my great-grandfather (Bradford) lived in Eastville, VA and had oyster beds on the Chesapeake. This would have been in the early 20th century. Glad to see the work being done to bring back the oyster. I also love blue crab. 😋
Its soooo refreshing to see folk that actually have REAL ideas....n WORTHWHILE agendas 💯🤯🤯....this BS that were being force fed on ANY news station is exhausting🤦
Parents had a house on the Corrotomon River in VA. They will give you spat if you want to try and raise them. There was an old oyster bar near their dock....super interesting stuff. There is a lot of cool creatures living in the bay! Show those too! Have a good one.
You know I hate my job, I'm used regularly, I would rather work for a place that matters. I'm truly thinking of retirement a pretty good pay to do something that matters for the world, thank you.
From work experience generally those bosses that got that mean type of personality are generally the kindest and best bosses. Im sure its awesome working for mutt merrit
TV show The West Wing (~20yrs ago) had an episode where they almost got a plan approved to clean up the chesapeake, only way me as an Ozzie knows of this bay.
Always said if they showed his shows in schools people might have a better idea of what they want to do. Also wonder how many oysters it would take to clean x amount of water cause i have heard to them being used before but they aren't edible to humans due to waste etc from my understanding
Dude really had the george Costanza wallet lmao 😭02:15
Meanwhile, my wallet has one debit card, one ID, a card with information about my dog in case of an emergency, and a $20 just in case 😆 Mutt, what are you doing??
Lol
But did he pull a golf ball out of a blowhole?

Bob Odenkirk? Maybe Cranston?
LOL There's only one man who can fill Mike Rowe's shoes = Mike Rowe! (It's a longshot, but I'll bet he's fairly good at playing the part.) 😉
I see it, but maybe early 00's John Goodman. He's lost a significant amount of weight in recent years. Definitely see the resemblance
Immediately I was like, 'he's definitely related to John Goodman.' XD
Mike has been educating me and many others with stuff they never talked about in school!
I agree!
I love that Mike didn’t want to pick up the oyster while it was …umm…spawning because he didn’t want oyster-interruptus!
Thanks @Mike Rowe for another episode of "stuff I never learned in school" Maybe I was sick that day😀
Love Mike Rowe
I'm certainly no scientist, but I truly love our beautiful planet; and this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen!!!❤👍
Helping nature do what it does best .. Mut has the right idea .. and you can hear in his opening speech just how much it means to him .. his heart is there doing exactly what he is doing .. and it’s these people who will help save our world !!! Thank you for this episode ..
Really educational. Mutt and his people are doing excellent work. A great video Mike!
Mike Rowe for president
Very cool episode. Those baby oysters are so cute!
Mobile Bay in Alabama is one of the most biodiverse spots in the nation. I know Dauphin Island research labs have been trying to do this for decades. I wish they could get the funding Chesapeake Bay gets.
Mobile bays' water would probably be a lot cleaner with more oysters too. Everytime I pass that bay it's water is very muddy

Keep it up Mike! Thank you for continuing my education!
thanks mike for the education.
it doesnt surprise me that when humans over fish and pollute the water ways, the ecosystem starts to die. it surprises me that humans dont realize this earlier. businesses just keep consuming!
VERY interesting; may the bay be restored to its former glory and THEN some!!!
I miss your mom talking with you ❤😊
I love how well Mike helps break down the interviewee's Nervousness.
I love all of Mikes shows! So relaxing
Knew it was gonna be a good one after I saw 20 minutes
There is no better tasting oyster than a Chesapeake Bay oyster. Mutt you rock!
Yes !!!
👍Keep the bay clean❤🙏🇺🇸
Mutt is SMART AF!...and Mike is easy on the eyes AND brain!
Hey Mikey. I liked this educational video very much.
Mutt's got it right, producing clams for the bay and the bank account.
Thank you for all that your team and you do, Mikey! Cheers, Mate.
What an incredible life you are living, Mike Rowe! Can’t thank you enough for sharing it with us! Wish we had more of you!! 🥰
I think Mike you have met your match with Mutt. Fun and educational. Great job.
How is it Mike always gets involved in the reproductive aspects of animals? First it was turkeys something I’ll never forget now oysters.
Always great entertainment!
Nice show.
Thanks
I’m from Virginia and Chesapeake Bay Area. When I was young we had lots of oysters 🦪. I believe in the bay.
i loved it keep it up!!!!!!!!!
Yes! More Mike Rowe! Thank you!
It's really great seeing someone doing something they love and making a difference in this world. It's an awesome job if you can really find them.

Wow it's amazing ! Thank you for sharing this !
Totally amazing.
Thanks, Mike Rowe

“Buck up, you’re in a scientific lab.” Perfect!
Wow! Interesting. Maybe we eat clams for a few years to allow them to grow.
That is amazing to see how oysters are created! 😮 😊
always enjoying these episodes
A little wine, soft music, candles.....that's how it all begins.
Super!! it was actually incredibly interesting

Lived on Chesapeake Bay 70 years ago. Thank you for restoring the Bay.❤

Great episode Mike my hat off to Mutt
Love the use of Blue Oster Cult in the background music, a perfect seal on this story.
I was born and raised on the Eastern Shore and grew up on the Chesapeake Bay. Yes, alot of people depend on the Bay to feed their families. My family has made a living on the Bay and various tributaries.
That show is incredible. I learn so much stuff I never would of learned. Or even thought I needed too learn or even knew I didn't know.
Always a pleasure Sir!
Thank you Mike and a BIG thanks to Mutt. I have lived my whole life in Baltimore and believe our Bay is our best asset. So thankful to see this video and appreciate everyone's help. God knows we need it.
As someone who lives 1 exit away from the MD Bay Bridge, this is amazing!!!
This was so cool and interesting. Good job to all. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Far out!! Sooo interesting. 5hnx!

Love watching Mike always informative
This is a fascinating episode. Thanks!
This was very fascinating. I love this.
This is SO interesting & fascinating!
Awesome Mike, thanks.
This one was fun! Mister Rowe looked enchanted at the larvea. I was as well. What a wonderful endeavor.
How cool is that!
Another great episode.
Wow that is fantastic!

never saw how oysters spawn..very informative and interesting
Mikes comment at 11:30 had me ROFL!
I was thinking Barry White just before he said it!
Awesome episode and they seem to just get better and better!
I can't stop laughing omg.
You know I hate my job, I'm used regularly, I would rather work for a place that matters. I'm truly thinking of retirement a pretty good pay to do something that matters for the world, thank you.
It was really cool seeing an actual WHEEL in the wheelhouse!
Love ya mike
Hey that dude was right it was a word fractionating
I love how Mutt is starting to biting back to Mike's standoffish tone halfway through this whole thing 😂
Agent Orange was the prime contributor to the bay's death. I went to high-school with Mike. He knows about what killed the grass in the bay.
Didn't know John Goodman is also running his own oyster hatchery 😂
Right? I'm glad it wasn't just me thinking that
This was fascinating! Thanks for sharing Mike!

"Somebody's gotta do it" is definitely as good as "Dirty Jobs".
Help mother nature , , , precious 😅
Totally fascinating video. 👏 👏 👏 I am curious, if the spats are so tiny how do they witstand the water pressure to washthem into the bay?
🎶💐💖
Seems as though they could be a little gentler with such a microscopic for a little creature.
From work experience generally those bosses that got that mean type of personality are generally the kindest and best bosses. Im sure its awesome working for mutt merrit
love to meet Mutt Meritt. really lowkey and genuine
just commenting at about six minutes....you're going to go for a three hour boat ride...a three hour tour?
This is great. If they seeded 1,7 million oysters to the bay on this trip, how many oysters do they seed over a year?
At least it was a clean job, with bedroom eyes!
13:00 this guy is growing translucent velveta shells
Fractionating is a word
TV show The West Wing (~20yrs ago) had an episode where they almost got a plan approved to clean up the chesapeake, only way me as an Ozzie knows of this bay.
I’m on the Va side of the bay , but rock on Mutt n team ! 🤘🏼👍🏼
