Figuring Out the Snap Jigging Striper Bite (Pup Goes Overboard!)

  • Cody and I start the trip by get his boat in tip top shape and we begin to figure out the Rockfish bite by snap jigging around ledges and using the fish finder to locate schooling fish. We learned a lot and set ourselves up well for a good week of fishing.
    Date: October 24, 2022
    Time: 3pm to 8pm
    Location: Middle Chesapeake Bay
    Conditions: Overcast with light winds
    Air Temp: 60 - 68 degrees F
    Water Temp: 59-61 degrees F
    Wind: less than 5 mph NE
    Gear: 7' Medium and Medium/Light spinning gear for casting
    7' or 6'6" Medium and Medium/Heavy casting gear for jigging
    Tackle: 1/4 and 3/8 oz jigs with 4" paddle tail swimbaits for casting
    3/4, 1, 1.5 oz jigs with 7" straight tail swimbaits for jigging (contrasting colors was key [whites, pinks, chartreuse])
