SIDEARM: Clean your release NOW

- When throwing the sidearm, there is no late release or grip lock. There is only early release, which feels like a grip lock, resulting in a wobbly flight that goes nowhere. Fix that by guiding the disc for as long as possible, so that your body and the arm stays on the swing plane until the release.

Great tip! Something to add: RELAX the wrist and allow it to naturally flex backwards during the swing (instead of forcibly cocking it back).
Right on! No wrist loading is necessary, on the contrary, as you said. Let it load and unload with the momentum.
This comment fixed my forearm shots. I realised I had actively moved my wrist instead of letting it move with the momentum. Suddenly they were flying straight with a good nose angle. Thanks!
@@PhenoV Awesome! Love to hear that.
@@PhenoV Perfect! I need to make a video about this!
Yeah dude. My next forehand form video was going to be me going over this very thing. I found this to be exactly the case for me. I'm still not great at it but it is SO much better.
Too bad I got here first! Hah!
@dgspindoctor No way, man! I love it when my ideas get validated by you smarter guys. ;)
Remember, you heard it here first.
Literally exactly what I figured out this week, thinking of straightening the arm asap when throwing has helped me so much! With both distance and accuracy
I was also focusing on this exact thing. I noticed I end my arms forward motion much sooner than Ricky or Goose. They seem to reach way out in front of them before finishing the snap.
@@curtisridenour Yeah, Ricky was exactly who helped me as well, one Jomez video had a reverse slomo and it showed the exact moment the disc left his hand and I was like ”Thats wayyyyy out in front of him!” Its crazy how you can always find new little things to tweak in your form
Andrew marwede is way out in front and only 1finger grip. I can't explain it but I throw way better forehands with 1 finger. Maybe I'm reaching out more.
@@markhumphrey8894 I have a friend, an ex-professional basketball player who had a reallllly strong index finger and could throw forehand with only that. I confirm it's possible, but have no idea HOW ON EARTH!
@@dgspindoctor I see your grip is middle finger on the rim and forefinger against it. That's my grip also. I've been investigating how the disc releases from the fingers.
If the middle finger is longer and is the last point of contact then the disc slides along the forefinger then at the last second it has to drop down to the middle finger then off the tip of the middle finger. So, I think that induces wobble.
I have tried 2 other grips with some success: 1. Have the forefinger on the rim and then stack the middle finger on the forfinger. So now the disc only slides on the forefinger.
2.Forefinger grip only. This only has 1 surface for the disc to slide over.
I have never seen a video about anyone discussing the slow motion release of a disc off the fingers.
Samantien tuli ahaa elämys et tossa varmaan se virhe on mitä oon aina tehnyt. Nyt pitää päästä kyllä pian testaan ja korjaan, ehkä fore lähtee vihdoinkin!
I’ll be testing this out tomorrow. It’s exactly what I needed! Curious to know what you think of the Weissman “The Method”.
Give it a try. I think The Method is just like all the other backleg discgolf's, and adds unnecessary moves to a simple concept.
It's the disc suppose to rip out like a backhand or is it different for forehand?
Mmm... It will rip out without actively releasing it.
@@dgspindoctor awesome I'll have to try that next time. I always try to flick my fingers out
What if you don’t have wobble with high speed drivers and feel very comfortable with the forearm there, but get wobble with slower speed discs for approach shots?
Or slower speed discs from the tee also
@@JBESgoalkeeping This works the same way with slower discs, too.
The high speed discs compensate for small faults, putters accentuate them. Let the putters school you. Then see how much better those high speed discs are.
@@newbie6633 Exactly! Throwing mids and putters with ease will teach you the control necessary for throwing drivers, too.
@@dgspindoctor always have had a very naturally good forehand, 100+ m from the first time I threw pretty much, but always struggled with the slower discs (except my beautiful berg of course). Excited to give this a try and see how it can benefit my game. Appreciate it!
Any thoughts on… i tend to late release or shank it left?
As a righty? I think this would fix that.
🤙
First who delivered!
I've been playing disc golf for 10 years now and from the first days, my forehand shots have always left a "wow.." effect on people. I always thought my forehand is perfect and can't be improved. I tried your one tip from this video just for laughs: reach as far as possible. Jesus christ. I got some much more spin and cleaner release that my overstable discs started to hyzerflip. Amazing job with this video. t. Suami
Thank you! Enjoy your brave new forehand!
Some advocate snapping your wrist when throwing side arm. That might be why they follow through too early in the throw. They are stopping their forward motion too soon, as you said.
It’s great to have useful information for throwing forehand.
👍
Is this why my discs burn over when I walk up for my sidearm throws but not when I'm doing stand still sidearms?
Most likely, if you standstill facing the target properly but don't when taking the run-up.
Quick and simple. Plus nobody likes a wobbly release....
No, actually everybody hates it.
It makes sense when you say to extend the arm and show us during the tip portion but then when you throw the disc it just looks like a normal side arm that everyone throws and I don’t see the “reach as far” tip in action. 🤔
You mean everyone who knows how to throw? Exactly. I try to teach you that, not the wobbly fart you see looking at bad throwers.
@@dgspindoctor I'm just saying during the beginning of the video the arm is fully extended when you are giving that tip to reach as far as you can. Then when you actually throw the disc, it doesn't look like you are reaching as far as you can at all. It looks like a normal release.
Yeah, when you try to do that, it looks like that. When you don't, it looks bad and wobbly.
Why don't you give it a try instead arguing about it here? Many people did and found it super helpful.
Good stuff!
Thanks for the visit
Thumbs up! It sure helps, now I just need to repeat it enough times.
perhana, että tuo kämmen on sulla smoothi. osaisinpa itsekin heittää edes välttävästi forea. paljon pitäisi maksaa, että opastaisit kädestä pitäen foren heitossa? :D
Mä olen pitänyt yksäreitä Helsingissä 85€/90 minuuttia.
@@dgspindoctor ei huono. pidetään mielessä!
Thanks again. I’ll try this
Great stuff! Can't wait to get out and try this.
God I hope when I test this tomorrow this is what the issue is. I can throw average distance but every time it wobbles out the hand then flattens out. This will be huge if it helps that
Here's hoping for the best!
My sidearm sucks. I hope this helps.
Me too!
Kiitos vinkistä testiin menee :)
Toivottavasti jeesaa!
Need to get out to the field and work this into my sidearm.
That's the only way to learn it!
Do you recommend starting with putters?
@@stuartwilliams2373 Yes. That really helps you to see if the release is actually clean or only corrected by the driver.
