  • A confluence of maritime power unfolded on Sunday, April 7, as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) joined forces with the Australian Defence Force, Japan Self-Defense Forces, and the United States Indo-Pacific Command for the first multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA).
The endeavor, aimed at bolstering cooperation and ensuring peace and stability in the region, saw the participation of vessels BRP Antonio Luna, HMAS Warramunga, USS Mobile, and JS Akebono.
As dawn broke, the powerful ships lined up in a precise abreast formation, cutting through the waters of the WPS with synchronicity and purpose. The footage, captured from the deck of the BRP Valentin Diaz (PS177), showed the seamless collaboration among the participating forces.
Each vessel, with its own storied history and capabilities, brought a unique strength to this maritime assembly, stressing the unity and shared commitment to security in the region.
Among the exercises conducted was the Foreign Object Debris/Damage (FOD) walk on the flight deck of the BRP Antonio Luna, a routine yet critical part of shipboard aviation safety procedures.
The AFP said this attention to detail emphasizes the professionalism and discipline that characterize the forces involved, ensuring the success of the day's operations and the safety of all personnel.
The division tactics exercise, or the Officer of the Watch maneuver, was a highlight of the day, demonstrating the strategic prowess and operational compatibility of the allied forces. The AFP said the ships performed with exceptional precision, eventually forming a diamond formation-a maneuver that not only tested their navigational skills but also symbolized the solid partnership among the nations.
