"India Should Revise Tibet Policy On China Occupation, Make Stance Clear On Dalai Lama's Succession"

  • China Occupied Tibet
"India's position at that time (China's invasion of Tibet in 1950) was that the invasion was wrong. The matter should be settled peacefully. And Tibet has internal autonomy. Now, all this has been violated by China. So China has violated the basis on which India and others formulated their policies. It is time to revisit the issue." On 'The Gist', Ambassador Dilip Sinha speaks to StratNews Global Associate Editor Amitabh P. Revi. Ambassador Sinha is the author of the book 'Imperial Games In Tibet: The Struggle for Statehood And Sovereignty'. It is available in bookstores and online and will be officially launched in July. He has served as India's Envoy to the UN in Geneva, was the Former Head of the UN Division and Ex-Head of the PAI(Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran) Division at the Ministry of External Affairs.
"China Claims Everything"In his book, Ambassador Sinha also demolishes the CCP (Chinese Communist Party's attempts to rewrite history by claiming Tibet was always part of China. "China now claims that even Chinggis Khan was a Chinese. So they claim everything. But the Mongols were the first to rule over Tibet. Thereafter Tibet became independent. The Manchus conquered China in 1721. When the Manchu dynasty collapsed in 1912, Tibet declared independence. Tibet was independent until 1950 when Communist China invaded." Infact in history there were times when Tibetan rulers invaded China and captured the then capital.
    Ambassador Dilip Sinha also discusses:
The recent U.S. bipartisan lawmakers' visit to the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NSA Ajit Doval and EAM Dr S. Jaishankar meeting the delegation subsequently.
The latest Tibet Act passed by both Houses in the U.S.
Whether the U.S. is firing off India's shoulders.
India's Tibet and China policy post-independence to the present.
    The Great Game over Tibet.
China's renaming of locations in Tibet, Xinjiang and Arunachal Pradesh.
Debunking Chinese imperialism which is now presented as a CCP narrative of the so-called century of humiliation.
The criticality of the Dalai Lama's succession.
China crushing religion on one hand and usurping religious authority on the other.
    Whether Xi Jinping fears religion.
What it will take for Tibet to be independent again.
And how India and Tibet helped preserve each others customs, traditions and manuscripts during invasions.

Thank you StratNewsGlobal for hosting Honorable AMB Dilip Sinha. AMB Sinha's microscopic into the history and Geopolitics of Tibet's uncommon situation is most clear and unambiguous. Tibet has been belittled, abandoned, and treated like a Buzkashi trophy by the “Great Game” players. Little regard has been afforded the people of Tibet and her suffering, and AMB Sinha's book on Tibet hopefully shed a flood light on this sad issue, especially in Bharat, whom Tibetans consider to be their Guru. Congratulation on your new book release AMB Sinha and thank you for your support for Tibet.

Few people in India might know that when India and China established diplomatic relations, there was a secret agreement regarding Tibet: India agreed to cease supporting the Dalai Lama's anti-China activities, while China agreed to stop supporting separatists within India. Therefore, India needs to understand that it does not have many cards to play regarding Tibet, with the main reason being the significant disparity in military and economic power between the two countries. Abandoning the meaningless obsession with Tibet is the best choice for India. After all, before the British unified India, there was no such country, and there was no talk of sovereignty over Tibet.

Tang Dynasty (Han=Chinese)-(618-907 AD)- Tibet invaded China
Yuan Dynasty (Mongols / not-Chinese)-(1279-1368 AD) - Genghis khan & his clans invaded China and Tibet
Manchu/Qing Dynasty (Manchu/ not Chinese)-(1644-1911) - Manchurian invaded China and Tibet.
While the Yuan and Qing empires exerted some influence over Tibet, the region consistently governed and appointed its political and spiritual leaders autonomously. Tibetan civilization, language, religion, value systems, medicine, culture, adaptability to high altitudes etc. are distinctly unique and nothing to do with Chinese civilization or Chinese history.

However, the oppressed Tibetans never accept nor admire Chinese culture, its distorted value system, or the Chinese government, despite being forced to do so over time. The moment the oppressed start admiring the oppressor's culture, it marks the beginning of their downfall. Otherwise, citizenship is merely a legal tag that changes as time progresses, as seen with the current waves of massive immigration. The rich Tibetan civilization, culture, and value systems are based on intellect and compassion, have every strength to survive and flourish.

Here's what the 14th Dalai Lama stated, you don't agree with him then?
"Tibetan culture and Buddhism are part of Chinese culture." -- Written by the 14th Dalai Lama, March 15, 2005
      Do you know princess Wenchen?
Poem written by 陈陶 (AD 812-AD885): “自从贵主和亲后,一半胡风似汉家”,
Translation: "Since marriage (Wenchen and Songtsen Gampo), half of customs (of Tubo (吐蕃)) are now same as those of the Han people.
Historical records show that that Princess Wencheng's dowry included "Buddha statue, treasures, gold and jade bookcases, 360 volumes of classics, and various gold and jade ornaments", as well as a lot of cooking food, various drinks, and brocade quilts with various patterns, 300 kinds of divination classics, 60 kinds of construction and engineering books, 100 kinds of medical prescriptions for 404 kinds of diseases, 4 kinds of medical treatises, 5 kinds of diagnostic methods, and 6 kinds of medical instruments, also various grains and turnip seeds, etc.
Under her influence, the Han people's milling, textile, pottery, papermaking, winemaking and other technologies were gradually introduced to Tubo (吐蕃); the poems, agricultural books, Buddhist scriptures, history books, medical books, calendars and other classics she brought with her promoted the tremendous development of Tubo's economy and culture.
Without milling, how do you make Tibetan momo (Baozi or Jiaozi)?
When Songtsen Gampo saw the clothing brought in by Wencheng, he changed his clothing (氈裘) immediately.
Do you know history of the Dalai Lama? Do you know it's high official of China who created the Dalai Lama title? Do you know Seal of Authority granted by Central Government of China since the creation of the Dalai Lama title?

    • @tibetanchineseofchina
      @tibetanchineseofchina 3 месяца назад +4

I think you're somehow wrong in your statement. The military expedition of the Qing of China was to expel the invasion of the Dzungars. The Dzungars invaded Lhasa in November of 1717 and killed Lha-bzang Khan of Khoshut Khanate in the first place. In 1718 October, Kangxi Emperor started to send military to Tibet to expel the Dzungars, and in 1720, the Dzungars were expelled. Khoshut Khanate formally became part of Qing in 1654, seal of authority and golden sheets were granted in that year by China, and Güshi Khan immediately expressed his gratitude:
      “皇上勝過締造萬物之如意寶,布仁慈於四海之濱;揚善抑惡,以足眾生之望。蒙天恩賞賜金冊、金印,封為遵行文義慧敏顧實汗,謹望闥跪接祗領,叩謝天恩。”
For the Dalai Lama, following the tradition of granting seal of authority from the Central Government starting right from the first (3rd) Dalai Lama in Ming Dynasty (1587), in 1720, the seaI of authority was also granted for the 7th Dalai Lama.

The Manchus are a minority ethnic group in China. They were once citizens of the Ming Dynasty (a Han Chinese regime). Nurhaci, the founder of the Qing Dynasty, was a local official of the Ming Dynasty. The Manchus today are no different from the Han Chinese, except for their ethnicity on their ID cards. And they are more patriotic than the Han Chinese.LOL

This is a very interesting channel
99% of Han Chinese people never had any contact with Europeans in the 19th century so how exactly were they "humiliated"? The humiliation, if there was any of, was of the Manchu empire... but as this gentleman says, the Europeans helped prop up the Manchu during the Taiping rebellion which was a Han revolt against them.
If the Japanese had toppled the British Raj, would the Indians have been "humiliated"? (It would be nice if Indians would recognise the role Indian elites played in the formation of the Raj. I don't really see how a small country from 4000 miles away with 1/20th the population can conquer a vast country without internal help)
It was the subsequent collapse of that Manchu empire which allowed the Han to take control of "China". So again, how exactly were they humiliated? As far as I can see, this narrative is a) about a deep inferiority complex vis a vis the West, b) a device to bind the Chinese people to the CPC and c) to justify the continued occupation of Tibet, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia etc.

India needs to cooperate with China to accelerate its transformation into a global manufacturing power, with seamless integration with global supply chain.
It has long been China's stance that "Put the border disputes aside, let us cooperate on everything else. "
An emerging power like India cannot let its development be kidnapped by border disputes.
Look at Japan and S. Korea. These two East Asia neighbors can sit down for negotiations and cooperations, despite of their long time disputes over the sovereignty of the Liancourt Rocks in the sea between them. That is political wisdom and diplomatic maturity on full display.
Other countries such as China and India can definitely learn from S. Korea and Japan to manage their difference on borders, LAC, or whatever, and develop their relationship for the benefit of the economy and people.
The US, with its dirty "divide and conquer" tricks, doesn't want to see BRICS countries developing fast together. They'd rather see the two neighboring Asian giants fighting, hurting and weakening each other, to maintain their domination in Indo-Pacific for their own geopolitical interests.
Only morons will fall into the traps of confrontation and conflicts pushed by the US.

Manchu conquered China in 1720? What sort of historian are you? Manchu (Qing Dynasty) entered Beijing the then Chinese capital in April 1644 and defeated the last Ming Dynasty Loyalist in 1683 as it conquered Taiwan. Tibet was part of Qing Empire in 1680 and China's position on Tibet was a direct inheritance of Qing and also during republic of China. The old Republic of China has a five stripe flag with each color stripes represent major ethnic groups in the country. If this guy is an UN envoy then it show case why India is a country that nearly nobody respect because he does not even know the history of the countries involved with Tibet. He certainly had high profile roles but his understanding of history is reflect low understanding of history.

@@jetli740 I hope Indians will read it carefully and experience it with their hearts. The huge difference in the founding of China and India is destined to be the biggest difference between India and China. Just look at the modern history of the two countries and you will understand. India was colonized by Britain for more than 200 years. In 1947, Britain experienced World War II, its strength declined greatly, and its status was replaced by the United States. India took the opportunity to gain independence through "non-violent non-cooperation". In other words, India's independence has not experienced the test of blood and fire. Such an independent country has no cohesion and willpower, and no national identity. Now let's talk about China. Since Britain defeated the corrupt and incompetent Qing government in 1840, the Chinese people have been living in dire straits. Various disasters and wars followed one after another. At that time, China was very poor and backward, and suffered all kinds of humiliation. Including the cession of Hong Kong and Macau, Taiwan became a Japanese colony, the burning of the Old Summer Palace by the Eight-Power Allied Forces, and the subsequent comprehensive and brutal invasion of China by Japan. In 1931, Japan launched a full-scale invasion war against China. From 1931 to 1945, the war lasted for 14 years. The Chinese army and civilians rose up to resist, fought bloody battles for 14 years, and suffered 30 million casualties, but finally won. Do you know why China suffered so many casualties? There are hundreds of reasons. I will only give one example: when the Chinese troops encountered the Japanese army, it was often the case that if there were 100 Chinese soldiers in the battle, the Chinese soldiers only had 20 to 30 guns. The remaining soldiers would not give up resistance or surrender. They used machetes, steel forks, and wooden sticks to bravely fight against the machine guns and cannons in the hands of the Japanese army until they died. This spirit of facing death and never retreating is the Chinese spirit. 30 million casualties! Do you think this can happen in India? For India, there are zero casualties, because India's knees are soft. India will give up resistance soon. Do you know why there is "Nanjing"? Because of the desperate resistance of the Chinese army and civilians, never surrendering and never giving up. After Japan broke through Nanjing, it was first to vent its anger, and secondly to scare off other Chinese soldiers and civilians who were resisting. But all this not only did not scare off any Chinese, but further aroused the Chinese people's resistance. The founding of New China was a test of blood and fire. Do you know why the Chinese national flag is red? That's because the founding of New China was paid for by countless Chinese ancestors with their blood, and we Chinese will always remember it. From 1945 to 1949, there was a civil war in China, and the Kuomintang fled to Taiwan. Originally, the Chinese people thought they could live a long-awaited peaceful life, but in 1950, the Korean War broke out and lasted for three years. The Chinese Volunteer Army successfully resisted the US route to the north without air superiority, sea superiority, backward army equipment, and extremely poor logistics, and our price was the loss of hundreds of thousands of brave PLA soldiers. In 1962, in the eyes of us Chinese, it was not a war at all. First of all, the time was only 32 days, and secondly, from 1959 to 1961, China experienced the most difficult three years since its founding, and many people starved to death in China during these three years. In 1962, India's economy far surpassed China. The United States, the Soviet Union, and Britain all supported India. At that time, India implemented the "Forward Policy" and attacked China with elite troops. We Chinese really don't want to fight. The Chinese troops that fought with India in 1962 were ordinary border defense troops, not regular PLA. In China, soldiers are called "the most lovely people". There is a Chinese proverb: Without a country, there is no home. Soldiers are the backbone of the country. Thanks to our brave People's Liberation Army soldiers, who are always ready to defend the borders of the motherland. No matter how India's military develops, it can't surpass China. Whether in the past, present or future, China can always defeat India. This is determined by the history and culture of the two countries. The Chinese people pay attention to the spirit of dedication and sacrifice. Don't surrender, don't yield, fight to the death, and see death as home on the battlefield. It is a huge shame for Chinese soldiers to surrender on the battlefield, and the spirit of dying rather than surrendering is deeply engraved in the bones of every Chinese. These are not possessed by Indians. Therefore, even now or in the future, India will never be able to defeat China. Now, do you think India can stand in the world like China? Absolutely not.

With due respect to the ambassador and his perspectives on Tibet's history , I can't help but feel that there's a lot more he knows but is not talking about it for various reasons. He's merely repeating western narratives on the situation and interpreting truth to fit those narratives. Unfortunately, HH the Dalai Lama was too young and totally unprepared to be responsible to take on such a big secular role when it was pushed upon his shoulders at 16 years of age instead of focussing solely on being the spiritual leader that he was and still is. He was easily manipulated by the Brits and the Americans and got caught up with the machinations of politics and geopolitics from which he could not extricate himself from, declaring too late that he'd be happy for Tibet to be an autonomous region within China.
The fact is clear for all to see that today, Tibet and Tibetans are living a much better quality of life and a better standard of living than they'd ever been.
The reason why Tibet is back in the news again is purely because of the US's need to distract the world and to try to encircle China in their futile effort to " contain" China's rapid growth fast overtaking them to be inevtiably, the world's No.1 economy.
Very much the same playbook in stirring up the status of Taiwan, the South China Sea with Philippines etc. And now India is being conveniently led into being a stooge and proxy for the US as well in this geopolitical game.
Brian Berlectec in his regular commentary on geopolitics on RUclips entitled The New Atlas, has done a very well researched segment supported with lots of factual evidence to explain how the US had been meddling into the domestic affairs of China as well as Tibet and other countries to advance their own interests as the global al hegemony. Kashmir is not part of India. The British militarily conquered it. Let it be independent.

Tibetan refugees are also not Indians! They should respect the local people or they should leave India and go to Tibet.

I am not from China either i am fro India but opinion is India shouldn’t be obsess with Tibet and try to be an international policeman like USA and interfere with other countries affairs. There is already enough wars in this world and India shouldn’t try to start another unnecessary war. That is my advice to India because the best business is to mind your own business. India should focus on their economic progress, development and growth. Since India independence, India GDP are at least at par with China if not a little bit bigger but now China have a economy 5 times larger than India. So India should be focus on their economy growth and catch up with China instead of obsess with Tibet issues.

for this history scholar, in 1860, the Southern US claimed independence and found the federation, then Lincoln led the north army "invaded" the South, and occupied the south, with this "scholar"s logic, all the south should be out of the US, ,
